Was he really a good GM or has he just been lucky up until now?

Good GM. But players want money the salary cap can't give them, hence they leave.

>sign Peyton Manning

Literally not even close to why people said that

well ewlay somehow got a superbowl out of old man manning so he must know something
>>
>>66109367
he got it in spite of manning
>>
he cut Tebow after a 7-4 season and a playoff win, and he is therefore the worst GM in the history of the world

he will rot in the deepest layer of hell for all eternity

god bless

Lucky as fuck, snatched up Manning w/ mixed results, nowhere to go but down.

Yes let's just overlook his ability to draft amazing players
>>
its luck
>>

What about his inability to retain them?
>>

It happens with success. You either overpay and the rest of the roster suffers, or you let them leave and hope you can find suitable replacements at a better rate.

Never underestimate the mind, confidence and force of personality it takes to actually negotiate and sign someone, let alone the several big free agents Elway has landed. It's partially why any fantasy league faggot who thinks they could be a good GM would fail.

A few teams were gunning for Peyton. He wasn't unique in this regard, though they all also had to weigh the risk of whether Manning would be able to come back.

What matters is who was actually able to sign him in the end which was Elway.

Not too bad a drafter either. Probably the only big swing and miss was Montee Ball.

No team is ever able to retain all their free agents. It just doesn't happen. Not unless you overpay for them all which is a. virtually impossible under the cap and b. stupid if you want to remain competitive since doing so would just leave holes everywhere. So you move on.
