Schedules and stuff. If there was a back-to-back Test match then it wouldn't be feasible because otherwise you could end up in a situation of 10 days of Test cricket in a row.
In a way the 5th day is an extra day because most Tests these days finish in 4 days unless they're on absolute roads.
R8 my new form of cricket, lads:
- Innings are now 9 balls long. It is literally impossible to be bowled out
- You cannot be dismissed on a no ball, or any ball after that for the rest of the innings. No balls are worth 2 runs
- Any ball that is no going on the hit the stumps is a wide. Wides are worth 3 runs
- Wicket keepers are forbidden unless they have a strike rate over 120 when batting
- You may review any umpire's decision an unlimited number of times, but the umpire is allowed to kick you in the balls if you're wrong
- 0 fielders are allowed outside the circle, unless you are bowling bodyline, which is encouraged. There is a 8 run penalty for not following this rule
- All runs are now worth 10 runs

I know it's very easy to spout >le postage grounds, but there's a proper reason why NZC are moving the majority of games to these tiny areas. They're looking to grow the game far more in the heartland than just have a few feeder colleges in Auckland and Christchurch.
Sure, the capacity is small and the boundaries tiny, but the people over there are actually making an effort to watch the cricket and get involved, and that's the only way we can improve our standard.

Yeah, some of the Associate games were based because of the crowd support because they had them in bumfuck Nelson and some schools got the day off.
They were literally giving little kids UAE and Bangladesh flags and jumpers and assigning them teams to root for and it actually worked. IIRC Bangladesh/Scotland was a pretty close game and the crowd got fully involved. It helps when you have those irrelevant games in literally where towns that have nothing better to do.
