However Fat John would be a great number 2 in Ferrari,I guess. Plus he seems like a jolly guy which would go great with Vettel, allowing good driver relations
ITT: average drivers that won just because they had good cars.
>>64507561
Bottas would be a bit of a risk, especially considering he beat Ricciardo in junior series, but he knows his place in a team and apart from the start of 2014 and Silverstone this year has been perfectly fine with being on the worse strategy compared to Felipe

Have they announced any regulation changes? I remember at the start of the year there were 3 different nose concepts; the Mercedes/lotus short noses (best looking imo), the Ferrari/str/McLaren long noses, and the rbr/Williams clitnoses.
They all seem to be converging into clitsnoses at the end of the year, which is an indication that it is that best design. I can only hope this isn't the case though because they look like shit compared to the others as far as i am concerned and if there isn't any change they will probably end up all looking like that.
>>64507978
>Have they announced any regulation changes?
no, this is the first year i can remember that the fia are waiting this late to confirm changes to the regulations
>>64507978
and re: the clit noses, they're far and away the best for getting the air underneath the car and to the diffuser. the merc/lotus nose directs air around the nose and to the bargeboards. the ferrari long nose is pretty shit at both of those but has a lower drag penalty and results in the cleanest air to the top of the car so no need for an s duct
williams's nose is believed to be the best as they do some very clever stuff with turning vanes and flow conditioners and small winglets behind it, red bull's is pretty close behind as it's the most aggressive in terms of getting air flowing through it. force india's is a unique approach but worse than those two. toro rosso and mclaren's aren't great, sauber's late-season nose was better than those even.

he made shit decisions, yes, but he was a good driver.
>>64517801
He's good, but I feel there were drivers even better in his era. He had the dominant FW19, vs the F300 and Schumacher took the title to the final round, and had his exhaust not failed, he would have won by a good margin.
>>64517985
Of course a GOAT like Schumacher would push him, even if JV had a slightly better car, because MS was a better F1 driver than all but a handful of F1 legends, but that doesn't mean JV wasn't good; you don't semi-usurp the 1994 Penske dominance and stacked field of the time to finish 2nd in the indy 500 and win a race at Road America in your rookie year, and then go on to win the title and the 500 after, if you're a bad driver.

Button (my favorite personality in F1, but he wouldn't be world champion without Ross Brawn exploiting that diffuser loophole)

>>64551087
"All this yuro-pean food is making us sick so we spend too much time on the shitter instead of making a fast indycar LOL"
>>64551204
Grosjean was the 2nd best driver on the grid for much of 2013, but hasn't really impressed since then other than obliterating Maldonado. Grosjean also wasn't significantly quicker than Kimi during their time as teammates either, only demonstrating a clear pace advantage (i.e. 3 tenths+) over him when Kimi signed his Ferrari contract/wasn't getting paid by Lotus and lost motivation as a result.
Bottas on the other hand has shown that he is far and away faster than Kimi - even with much worse luck this past season, in a definitively slower car, he was outscoring him in the WDC for a decent chunk of the year.
Bottas is also somewhere around 2.5 tenths quicker than Massa, who was faster than Raikkonen in their time as teammates. I have no doubts that Bottas would thoroughly destroy Kimi if they were paired together.
But that doesn't really matter in the end unless Ferrari want Bottas/Grosjean as their #1 driver instead of a support to Vettel.
>>64551233
I wouldn't use Raikkönen to make any sort of a comparison, the guy's form tends to fluctuate over the course of his career. Legit think the Ferrari isn't compatible with Kimi, which makes him look worse than he is. Having said that, I don't feel like Bottas has really shown a strong advantage over Massa, only a slight one, so I'm not sure if it warrants him getting a shot at a top-team as the #1 driver. At the same time, Grosjean destroyed Maldonado, whilst Bottas was better, but not by a similiar margin. It was a good thing he got a great finish in the last race though, or else he would've undeservedly finished behind Maldonado in the WDC standings.
I was going somewhere with this, but I forgot. Adding to it, I feel like Grosjean with his aggressive style is closer to Vettel's style of driving than Bottas and therefore, the Ferrari might have a bigger chance to be suitable for Grosjean than for Bottas.
>>64551287
>Legit think the Ferrari isn't compatible with Kimi, which makes him look worse than he is.
2014 Ferrari I'd agree, but Vettel and Kimi both like the same basic traits in a car; responsive front end, loose-ish rear end, etc. The 2015 car delivered there.
>I don't feel like Bottas has really shown a strong advantage over Massa, only a slight one
Bottas was several tenths quicker for the vast majority of 2014. Bottas had shite luck for a great deal of 2015 which is why Massa was seen as being close in pace, and in the last portion of 2015 Bottas was once again significantly quicker (even at Brazil, a track Bottas doesn't like much). Again, luck was a major factor in Bottas not demolishing Massa in the standings again this year, just like Kvyat beat Ricciardo in the WDC despite Ricky being far and away the quicker driver.
>so I'm not sure if it warrants him getting a shot at a top-team as the #1 driver.
Bottas needs more time to prove himself, I agree. If he has as good a 2016 as he did a 2014 I'm sure he can demonstrate his worth. That said, Bottas beat Ricciardo to the Formula Renault title with less experience.
>whilst Bottas was better, but not by a similiar margin. It was a good thing he got a great finish in the last race though, or else he would've undeservedly finished behind Maldonado in the WDC standings.
You have to remember that the 2013 Williams (9th fastest car) was closer in pace to the Caterham (10th quickest car) than it was to the Toro Rosso (8th quickest car) until the last three races when they ditched the coanda exhaust. It's remarkable that they even scored points as all, and Bottas still managed P3 in Canada quali. 2013 was Bottas's first season in F1 as well, while RoGro was in his third full season in 2014, if that matters any.
>Adding to it, I feel like Grosjean with his aggressive style is closer to Vettel's style
I sort of agree there, Grosjean has a closer driving style but he and Bottas both like the same traits in a car.
>>64551377
And that's not to shit on RoGro, he's obviously a very quick driver, but I feel Bottas would have an edge over him.
A Vettel/Grosjean combo at Ferrari would be brilliant to see, and IMO would be a stronger lineup than any team on the 2015 grid.
>>64507563
Villeneuve, Button, Mansell, Vettel, Hamilton, Jones.
>>64551377
>loose-ish rear end,
I'm not sure Vettel is a fan of this, especially since he thrived on the EBD cars, which generated a boatload of extra downforce at the rear, and struggled when this effect was curtailed (early 2012, most of 2014)
As for Gimi, I think the suspension philosophy followed by Ferrari at the front (pull rod instead of push rod) May be a contributing factor.
As for Bottas vs Massa, it may not be painting the best picture, perhaps because it's an upper-midfield car. After all, Brundle and Schumacher were closely matched in '92, and at that point it was clear that Brundle was a journeyman in F1 terms.

They're planning to revive an F3 Asian series and there's also word of an F3 American series. Although I don't know how Pan continental that might be.
Might be easier to do a North American version rather than a costly Pan American.
Look at IndyCar and how costly it was to do the flyaway race in Sao Paulo.
If it were a bit cheaper than F1, I wouldn't mind paying to see an F2 race, that was the main event.
>>64554166
The SCCA just launched the F4 series in partnership with the FIA so I imagine if someone ran an F3 series here, it would be them. I don't know how successful it would be as we already have the comparably cheaper pro mazda and indy lights series.
>>64554166
an American F3 series would be bretty nice, not many routes for American drivers to get into any open wheel that isn't Indycar/Lights

Montreal (maybe even supporting F1)
Mosport

>>64554412

Looking at the company history of Manor Grand Prix Racing it is interesting to note that a separate company called 'Just Racing' is affiliated with the organisation, the board of directors is the same as the Manor team. Could they be renamed 'Just racing' in 2016?

Pcars looks and sounds nice but handles like absolute shit. Even with all aids off, it feels like your on rails.

Sometimes it is nice to pass the time and read old articles by Saward where he makes bold claims that turn out to be 100% wrong. Also fun to watch him meltdown in the comments when people point out obvious flaws.

Alexander Rossi on 2016

so they're sticking with him and stevens (he claims he has no plan b or c)?
if so, rossi needs to bring $10 million - that's what haryanto was going to bring, but apparently it's not legal to use taxpayer's money to fund sport or something like that.
rossi didn't bring many sponsors last year. where will the money come from? seems odd, what with cota seemingly on the chopping block.
hell, even mercedes refused to pay that much to fund german hamiltoe.
>>64570789
Haryanto will bring $15mil
Pertamina will "find a way" to make that amount appear

Does anyone here subscribe to Joe Saward's Grand Prix Plus? I only ever see the covers he posts on his blog after each race, and they look terrible. I find it hard to believe that a) people pay money for it and b) that it's worth his time producing it. I mean, he bashes it out in a couple of hours after the race and commenters on his blog are always bitching about errors and typos (before joe bans them)
>>64572901
Joe is insanely arrogant. He's far too self-absorbed and airheaded to actually produce a decent product.
His blog, his other website that he abandoned, and gp+ are fucking awful on the eyes (speaking as a graphic/print designer) and i cannot take anything he publishes seriously with his primary school-level web design
>>64572947
>Implying this isn't good design work
Holy shit, the autism levels on his FB page are off the scale...
>>64573140

>>64573140

Anyone here used to post in the grandprix.com forums? It was one of the first places I went to when I joined the internet, around 2000 or so. True autism in those forums

not anymore. the only good thing about gp+ is david tremayne's contributions - i don't mind paying to give him money, but i'm not giving saward any, so no longer subscrible.
he looks so fucking miserable, and is probably a massive prick too.
Happy New year fám. Hope it's gonna get nasty.
