The longer the fight lasts, the more likely you are to suffer some random injury.
Any punch that lands awkwardly could break your hand, any kick that lands awkwardly could break your foot, and then you're suddenly in a much different fight. And even if the injury doesn't affect your ability to win that given fight, it still puts you on the shelf until you heal up, gives you less time to train over the course of your career, and generally reduces your long term prospects.
