Marsh has been solid tbf, he's unironically looked more threatening than Siddle. The problem is that he never has a real chance to get proper batting time in tests, given he usually comes in at 500/3 or 60/5.
If you're going to have two injury prone quicks in Starc and Pattinson it really helps having the fifth bowler, especially someone who takes as many wickets as Marsh.

As someone who has seen him in Shield quite often, I know he's a much stronger batsman than what we've been seeing in international games. Like his brother, he's being held back by a lack of confidence. He should always be fielded against a team as shit as the West Indies (or Bangladesh if that wasn't cancelled) for that reason since it gives him a chance to statpad in test cricket and get into the right mental state. That's one of the reasons Smith's declaration was so fucking dumb, batting against a demoralised Windies side without one of their better bowlers was one of the best opportunities Marsh was going to get
