>>
You have good ideas but express them in a somewhat awkward manner. The start is a little vague.
For an introduction, that might be a little short.
Body paragraphs tend to focus on a particular idea or theme. In your case, then maybe discussing the concept of how people are forced to do x in order to survive could be explained, then link it to how it might not be bad or evil.
Then you could write another paragraph on survival of the fittest. For this you could use one of the characters as a 'base' so to speak and link examples in the book about them which relate to that theme.
Most essays/thesis' would have 3 body paragraphs as standard .

People in this distopian world are forced to do the unthinkable, acting on animal instincts, for survival, blurring the lines between good and evil.

next paragraph is about the "animal instincts" they must do, talk about how they have to eat and shit.

3rd paragraph is about some of the evil things that have to do.

4th is about the good.

5th is conclusion. restate the thesis first then you can say something deep and meaningful like "maybe our current world isn't so different" or something.

Maybe rephrase it like...
"The Road' depicts cannibalism as cruel and cannibalistic, giving the impression that it is evil but logical for people to resort to when there is no other food source.

How can you be on this board and not know how to craft an essay? I breezed through every writing course in college because of what I learned here. On r9k. No, that is not a joke.

The best posts on here don't ramble on, they make a point and guide the reader to it as effectively as possible. Your first sentence is utter garbage. Who the fuck are you trying to be, saying the most obvious shit about people which has no significant ties to the content of your essay?

Start your essay by getting straight to the point:

"Two men face the horrors of a dead planet, constantly on the lookout for others and themselves. Through the lens of McCarthy's post apocalyptic world, grand questions are raised regarding morality. What defines the point at which a person's actions deem them evil? Do different circumstances excuse choices unthinkable from a modern perspective. [Follow with thesis statement better than "just cuz u do bad things doesn't make u evil]"

>>28871211
How long does the essay need to be OP? A- to B+ papers can usually be cranked out in a little over an hour if it's only 1200 or so words. Plus writing over The Road is super easy.

For writing advice, 1st change the title. It's too sophomoric. "The Road and Grey Morality" could be a good one if you're going to write about that. Also make your writing more professional, as right now it looks like a paper produced from a junior in High School.

I have to ask, did you read the book? There isn't a single character name or specific event from the book in anything you've shown us so far. Not to be mean, but those are kind of important. I haven't read The Road, and I am struggling to understand how your points relate to each other and the book in general.

In general, my advice is to simply put more information into the essay. It seems as though you are glossing over everything.

Also obligatory this is why you don't procrastinate until the very last minute.

This was half of my English 101 and 102 class in a nutshell. Despite having at least a passable grasp on the language (native speakers being the majority), the majority of them were simply too gormless to even show up half the time. The rest of the time, they were too busy shifting their weight around and finding loopholes to get out of working to actually write their essays.

It was fucking disgusting, felt like I was the only one in the entire classroom that actually gave a rat's ass about learning the skills taught in the course and improving my writing skills. Enjoy your failing grade, OP.

Anon, if you really want advice and help, (with a CHANCE of getting a D) you're going to have to post your google doc and allow us to comment. Don't need to edit, just comment. Otherwise if you take any suggestions or direct quotes from this thread, turnitin's going to mark 90% of your paper as plagiarism. It should mark around 10-30% plagiarized because you should be giving examples from the text, and breaking them down. Use sparknotes quotes, don't rely on their analysis, make them connect to your thesis "Depravity is inherent to survival" or whatever bullshit that was. Idk I got too bored to read it. That's a bad sign.
>>
>>28873691

I know plagiarism-checking software is strict, but does it really scan /r9k/ for original content? That seems like a bit of a daunting task technically-speaking, given that the average life expectancy of a thread on here is anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day at most.

MLA style is most common in English over here, APA in the broader field of communications, and Turabian/Chicago style in humanities (the latter of which is an utter pain in the ass to write with by the by). Can second the suggestion to italicize, not that it'll do OP much good at this juncture in his academic career. kek

Holy shit is college even worth it if its this basic.

If your major is English or any Humanities field, OP, I really suggest you go to a writing tutor.
>>
>>28873937
It depends on the course, university, and instructor. Most instructors I've worked for have been strongly encouraged not to fail students. Basically if they've actually done the bare minimum and are in some way responding to the essay prompts, then they will get at least a 50 (which is a pass here). I only read OP's first paragraph and skimmed the second: based on those and his MLA knowledge, he'd get a high 50, low 60.

He was from what I gathered. I probably wasn't communicating it very well, but I was trying to explain how that's exactly what happens anyway.

All students (even the dean's list/cream of the crop students) play into this statistic-bending scheme on the part of school and faculty by paying to attend the schools, listening to the false propaganda of the "poor uneducated school system" as the school itself plays fast and loose with the excess funds it has accumulated from jacking their own prices up over the years. It's all a very well-coordinated racket on the part of broader academia, so you can't exactly knock their hustle.

I could also go into how academia is now a necessity rather than a luxury, due to an undergrad degree being an absolute-minimum requirement for even the lowest-paying jobs on the market today; however, that would be veering quite a bit away from the main topic at hand. lol

It's really a drag, but it seemed like a more viable solution than sitting around the house all day as a depressing NEET who can't even get a fast food job 'cos I'm too white to get Affirmative Action'd into the local McDonalds or whatever.

Scammers are everywhere, but it's quite scarce to find one that will actually help in one's life (even if only superficially so). dammit.

I'm into writing feminist satire when desperate people want essays.

I was all set to spew bullshit about how Athenian pederastry hurts women, and how "the smokehouse" is a metaphor for the human condition.

But bro, seriously, you're writing like you're trying to sound smart and nothing else.

That's boring bullshit.

1. Pick something you want to write about
2. "Find" this as a "hidden message" in the text
3. Argue for what you like, mock what you don't like

Done right, essays are basically shitposts that get a dick-size rating.

You can write about fucked-up shit if you sound 100% "politically correct".

You can literally write an essay about how Jews did 9/11 and this made you become a Nazi.

Here are your topic headings:

> "The Road" is about loss
> 1st example of loss paralleled in the road: 9/11 was national tragedy. The Road was a reaction to loss, helps people cope, blah blah blah.
> 2nd example of loss paralleled in "the road" German nationalism in the 1930's was a reaction to loss. Make parallels to civilization breakdown.
> 3rd example of loss paralleled in "the road": unattractive men are un-loved. Examples of weak people getting killed on "the road". Talk about how "toxic masculinity" is bad.
> now, go deep:
> Pick two characters in the story. Argue that one is a figment of the other's imagination.
> Pick a character who dies. Talk about how he's a Christ figure.
> Pick an attractive male character. Describe his masculine hotness, then say he's a "bad person" (only do this if teacher is female)
> Pick a modern artist whose work is bullshit. Talk about how their work is brilliant and like "the road".
> Baneposting. But, change the words a little so it sounds academic.

200 years ago, people wrote essays about old scrolls that no one understood. So it made sense to "find the hidden meaning".

That's the game. "Find the author's true intent."

Could be anything you want.

Argue the author is secretly Gay / Fascist / a Robot.

But what about a report on nonfiction ? I need many sources for this gene editing essay and come up with how ethical it is and how it will serve us in the future

>start your book with a factually untrue statement that will make any educated individual put it down right then and there
good idea op, most people are idiots anyway
this way you don't have to hold yourself to any quality standards, because no one able to critize will ever read your book in the first place

This is why I hated literary analysis in high school english
Luckily now i'm in STEM, where instead of the work being vague and poorly defined, i'm just too lazy to do it
