yes, it's tin foil hat to think the Jews are data mining everything you type into your computer.

Cuckerburg is worth 50 billion from idiots who buy gold coin for their farming thing, not from selling your info to every gubment and corporation on earth.

Its the same shit for bloatware on my phone.

Had it for a year and 2/3rds of the memory is already full of updates to useless junk apps I dont use, cannot remove, and update themselves anyways no matter how many times I "deactivate" or "disable" them.

My opinion, on phones atleast, is that they use bloatware to fill your phone with junk update data making it run slower and slower, and have less and less memory so you will have to buy a new phone atleast once every 12 to 18 months.

Then they make upgrades happen only every 2 years, so you either gotta put up with a slow phone packed with bloatware, or pay $600 for a new one that isnt really much more powerful, its just not crammed with useless updates yet so it seems like it is.

It's not about running a server. I was legitimizing Linux. Microsoft has the market share it has because it's been running a fucking monopoly since the 80's by having it's OS come with just about every single computer sold in the US. Apple is popular because of branding. Both suck balls, but at least Apple used to be good. I believe people are more concerned about having software installed that monitors your every move by default and can't be removed. I don't think anyone is saying Linux can't be cracked. In fact, every month I see critical bugs released on CERT for the Linux kernel. The difference is Linux devs want people to break their shit so they can fix it. Microsoft people want you in a nice cozy bubble, just like Apple, so you can't fuck anything up.

Apple pioneered the; 'buttfuck the consumer with meaningless upgrades' bullshit years ago.

Ipad 2 > New Ipad: Pointless
OS7 > OS8 > OS9: pretty much the same fucking thing
OSX and variants: What's the fucking point for paying for minor performance upgrades per version?

And worst of all; Iphones.

IOS past 5 is shit. Google Maps worked much better when integrated into the phone. Why didn't apple include 3g with original iphones? Why couldnt I get siri on iphone 4? Why does iphone SE suck so bad? Why does the iphone 6 and 6+ bend so fucking much? Jesus fuck I'm still using an Iphone 5S, because IOS is the only thing I know how to use and modern version of IOS have regressed into shittier and shittier knockoffs of android. There are so many features that apple should've included in the earliest versions of IOS but were only getting them now.

I'll have to check it out. When I used it I had it set up in a seperate partition and used it for web browsing. Im computarded, but my little bro is a legit programmer and he configured some stuff for me.
I have no idea how, but he set it up so that on linnux while browsing or whatever it would halt all non-relevant programs and processes so all of your computers power was focused on the task at hand.

He also set it up so it could detect wifi signals too weak to normally detect and actually use them for internet.

With these two functions I could get acceptable internet connectivity off of bandwidth normally not detectable by stock software.

Im probably butchering the description and sound like a eetard cuz I just used it and didnt set it up, cuz im kinda dumb, but I was really impressed with linnux for that.

The only downside was that I couldnt play games or use any programs from windows without relying on (often times sketchy) open sourced emulators or knockoffs.

/g/ here.

There are actually only a handful few reasons NOT to install Linux as a desktop OS. Nowadays almost all major applications contain Linux support, or have programs developed for the system which are equal or better in quality to Windows equivalents.

Mainstream distributions have become quite stable and user-friendly. Installation is simpler than Windows, and you don't even need to know how to use the command line anymore for normal use. Ubuntu has a nice interface, and it has become MUCH more stable over the years.

Probably the biggest downside is that Linux doesn't have Adobe Creative Cloud applications -- Gimp doesn't do it as a professional application.

>>80928561
You should literally install Gentoo if you want that much optimisation. Gentoo contains a source compiler which optimises software based on your system's specification.

I'll be lurking in this thread if anyone has Linux-related questions. You can also visit one of /g/'s rolling Friendly Linux Threads. Search for /flt/ in the catalog.

A lot of people are recommending Arch, but if you want COMPLETE control, google "LFS Linux From Scratch", where it has you manually build a linux system, from scratch. If you are coming from Windows, Mint would be the most seamless. That doesn't mean the most secure, but its a great way to get your feet wet with Linux. As you learn more and more, you can evolve, going to Ubuntu (which Mint is based off) and then Debian (which Ubuntu is based off).

Just burn a CD, and launch it that way. Should even be able to dual boot, and access your MS files with ease.

I went for the free Windows 10 upgrade a while ago. It's still got a lot of bugs but it's not bad once you install Classic Shell. I mainly did it because I wanted chatpad support with the Xbox One controller I just bought.

Overall, I'd say Windows 7 is still a fine operating system and if you're really scared of Windows 10 you're not really missing out on much right now. Eventually though the big switcharoo is coming just like it did with Windows XP. XP is still a very functional operating system but unfortunately it has no new software support.
>>
>>80930731
I would rather not take it at all. Fuck retina display bullshit. It's pointless for 99% of things. I still have my ipad 2 which my 3 year old plays games on(microtransactions disabled ofcourse). There is literally no reason for me to buy another ipad or any other tablet. My wife uses a macbook and I only let her upgrade once every three years, otherwise it's money down the drain.

I had to convince my business partners to not toss out our 2010 macbooks, because mavericks is pointless, we still use office 2007. And all the hippie cucks in design got pissed at me I mean seriously what's the fucking point of upgrading from 10.6? You guys dont game, it's a fucking work computer. All you do is ferry files from the workstations to the clients that's it! I'm not about to waste 100k on new cuckbooks for you to impress feminazis at the local starbucks.

I cant stand macintosh OS, it's always felt as if it was illogical in design and function. I've been using computers since the 80's. I stuck with DOS up until windows 3.1. Even during the early days, MSDOS was king. People like to shit on windows 95, but it was the best OS up until XP. Now 7 is the best.

Oh yeah, I forgot about gaymen. If you play PC games stick with Windows or set up a system which accommodates dual-boot, because you're SOL on Linux when it comes to games.

>>80931648
Give Ubuntu a try. I use it myself as I want something that's no-nonsense, fast, and doesn't give me trouble. It's got a slick installer, just let it do everything automatically on an old computer or a spare hard drive, and see if you like it. The CD even allows you to try out the desktop on the disk. FYI this feature is called "live-view", although this is predictably much slower than having the system installed on the hard drive.

>>80931666
Try dual-boot. It's a bit more complicated to set up because you have to partition the hard drive (unless you have a hard drive for each system), but then you have the best of both worlds: Windows for Gaming, and Linux for everything else.

I have a Windows installation on a separate mSATA SSD just to do Skype. I don't want that botnet shit on my Linux box.

>alerts from both mcafee and windows that I can't get rid off because my pc isn't safe
>today I got the third update within a week of upgrading, it's description? "Cumulative Update"
>I can delay the reboot by hours but not by days, let alone disable it
>the pc goes fucking nuts hugging 700mb of ram each day in the process "System and compressed memory"
>cortana is still running in the background as a process even though I never enabled her as well
>pc is up to date and as safe as it could allegedly be
>fucking virus still rampant

It's funny how a distro that downloads so much shit and gets all over your files in the name of "safety" is still uncapable of detecting a virus (with it's full updates and windows defender that can't be turned off) or even detect that the windows 7 copy I upgraded from was pirated. Makes you wonder what all those resources are really going into.

Thank god I still have the w7 ISO I burned into a cd, the torrent was removed last I checked.

I tried to install 10 but that shit nearly bricked my PC. So, I had to run a recovery on mine and I guess Im stuck with 7. Really wanted to olay Halo Wars 2 on pc too. Oh well.

You have good taste in laptops, EliteBooks are great, but stop using Windows unless you absolutely need to.

Not gonna go from 7 to 10 just on general principle.

The pooloos never amount to nothing.

I had a sense that's what they were doing since any time you turn off the "spiffy new features" and revert back to the prior stuff, for instance I've turned off Aero and use the XP GUI, things work better.

I guess when I build a new computer soon, I'll do it with Linux in mind. My current rig hates Linux.

two words to solve all of your PC issues

Or
>Wipe PC

Really? What have you tried?

Because they are clickers. Anything that catches their eye, they will click, even if that thing is clearly out of place on that page since it's third party.

You don't have to put tape over your webcam, you dummies. You can disable your OS's access to the webcam from the BIOS. It's not even hard.

WHY IS EVERYONE SO STUPID AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

NoScript, ublock origin, and flash control takes care of that issue for me.

Linux takes care of all .exe viruses.

From Windows. And its still built with a rotten core, and they aren't even attempting to fix it.

But hey, if you are happy, more power to you.
