Well it definitely has a fauvist tendency towards brighter more vivid and distinct color fields, at the cost of direct representation (in this case of the original painting). Got a Matisse vibe to it à la 'Le Bonhure de Vivre. Though a critique would be that the water color comes out a bit muddled, and the boundaries between color aren't filled.
I'd argue that it's not surreal simply because it's a direct representation of an existing thing, and not a real attempt at representing a product of your personal subconscious, like Dali and other surrealists were trying to do.

I don't drawing humans is a good place to start at all, unless your end goal is to draw or paint primarily humans. /ic/ is over obsessed with life drawing and anatomy to the stage where people forget what got them into art in the first place, get depressed that no matter how much they draw figures they don't feel satisfied, and quit.
Had a friend who wanted to make comics who did exactly that, she now knows all muscle names, insertions, you name it, but couldn't draw any of them, and completely forgot about comics for almost two years.
