It's too straight nigga. Real spines are more S-shaped and chests are more barrel shaped (meaning the shoulders don't line up with the back but are a bit forward). pelvis forward + chest back = swagger. I know you didn't ask for critique but this is the one thing that makes your figures come alive

I didn't follow any reference doing that so I can see what you mean, it's a bad habit of mine to make everything flat instead of dynamic, thank for the tip. But I still have a problem with how the legs align from the pelvis in a tridimensional way, I dont know if i'm being clear there, I have some problems making the uh roundabout?

Drew this a few minutes ago, would appreciate critique. I tried to show my process so if you see somewhere I went wrong, please point it out.

One question I have is how do I get to the point where I can draw good anatomy without references? Is it even possible to do so without relying on symbol drawing?
>>
>>2555827
Don't hide hands to compensate not knowing how to draw them, just draw a shit ton of hands.

What you need to do is draw so much anatomy that you sort of internalize the proportions and "3D" symbols used to construct a figure on paper.

Yeah this was a really bad example. It's one of my worse pictures, and it's nearly a year old. The hands are pretty bad too in that example, as well as the other one I posted. I'm not great at drawing hands, all I meant was I don't feel like I'm particularly bad at it compared to other things.

A question: do you think you're good at drawing?
Another: have you read the sticky?
If not, come back when you feel like you can post something of enough quality that people can give constructive critique. I imagine that people would instead have to redraw it for you at this point.
It's good to post as a beginner, sure. But I doubt anyone will have the time to fix EVERYTHING for you.

Learn the basics.

>>
>>2560051
You're symbol drawing. You draw what you think things should look like instead of what they actually look like.
>>
>>2560051
The shrinking of the forehead and raising of her eyes above the eye level makes her facial features look bad.

I'd recommend going back and looking at how Loomis builds his portraits. It may sounds annoying to start from the beginning but it'll help you a lot. Keep up the practice, you can get gud
>>
>>2560055

You're repeating words you read on /ic/ two weeks ago when you started drawing. You say things without actually knowing what they mean and critiquing people without knowing anything yourself.

Not bad m8, but you are approaching this whole art thing entirely wrong.
You can't expect to draw a hand or a piece of drapery decently when you clearly couldn't draw a box in perspective or even a straight line.
What do you think the figure is made of, if not lines and boxes?

Well don't. Details such as coloration or style come as a by-product as you improve your drawing skills.
>>
>>2560427
Looks pretty flat to me. Drop all the rendering and focus on making it look more 3D.
Also, focus less on contours and more on values. Learn how to hold your pencil in a claw grip and draw with the flat side, most college instructors teach that.
Don't bother with rendering until you can easily draw head in any pose/angle.

I'm thinking of picking up digital drawing and reading the fucking sticky, I used to doodle shit with a pencil from time to time. This was drawn with a mouse. Critique would be nice I guess, the only thing I know I unintentionally fucked up was the shoulder height.

I like the idea of using layers and colors in my drawings tho, I'd much rather do digital.
Drawing this with a fucking mouse was somehow more enjoyable than using a pencil, so I really don't know why I should go back.

This is looking better, but your lines are still broken and chicken stratchy, try going over this on another layer with clean lines to define your edges.
Or better yet go traditional and learn to commit to your lines instead of laying down 20 strokes for one edge

Well I went to three colleges. The first was the one with the main amount of drawing I ever did in school (mostly it got in the way). Ran out of scholarship due to poor grades (cunt professor said I wasn't good enough despite taking pre-req classes). Second college I didn't even attend one semester because I was expelled (revealed my power level). Third college is closing down and giving the name would easily indicate where I live. The only explicit drawing classes I took there was in my final semester and both were optional.

Advanced Drawing which wasn't really advanced since we spent three weeks drawing and shading eggs. The class had freshmen in it and other seniors who weren't up to snuff (literally deviantart-tier anime comic shit for some cunts final project). Professor always singled out my work because it was the best ("Look at anon's work everyone, now do that). Point is the class felt more like Drawing 104 at best.

I took an animation class and I hated it. Animation sucks (to do). He had us do 8 minute drawing challenges as warm-ups. I checked out Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy from the school library (I own my own copy now and study from it) based of a professor's suggestion. The book hadn't been taken out since 2009. That made me disappointing.

Obviously I'm only posting the good things I've done recently. I have my bad days. Here's an 8 minute drawing challenge I did two days ago.

For those unfamiliar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06GxNHHREJA

Timer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsrQ6Iynx4w

TL;DW
>make 8 squares on paper
>start timer and draw until you hear the beep
>repeat until all boxes have been drawn in
>goal is not to see how far you can get but to convey the same idea in 5 seconds as you did in 4 minutes

Im sorry, but if this is your best work after three colleges, I wouldn't think about being so arrogant. Bad line quality and terrible anatomy here.
You sound like you think you are good at drawing or something, you're taking a bad approach to learning and looking down on your peers and mentors is unhealthy for your improvement.
Have you done much life drawing?

Only four years of education total, again, most of it was not drawing but design. The webcam blurs quite a bit so line quality critique is nil but I can tell you I have issues with full confidence. College was mostly gesture drawings. My arrogance was extended quite a bit in that post. Most of my humor is self-deprecating if it eases you a bit.

I never drew until college anyway. I never said I looked down on all of my peers. Some were better at design but less than five were at my level or above it in terms of drawing. I just started studying anatomy and right now I'm balancing painting and drawing evenly more or less. I never understood anons who proclaim I should consider myself bad at art. Seems counter-intuitive to view myself as anons like you view me. Nothing quite like the astoundingly common criticism of "you think you're good? you're bad." Yep, sure helps me get better and you become a better critic.

I already got proper critique on >>2561175 without having to ask for proper criticism. "Bad" or "terrible" isn't criticism.

Reminds me why I should just stay off these art
boards. I can see what I did wrong myself just fine and not compound negativity into it needlessly.

>>
>>2564741
Sorry samefag, those are symbols. The eyelashes in particular were drawn like a five-year-old and show that you're not attempting to replicate reality. However you want to split hairs because your feefees are hurt, your observational ability is garbage. All of the ad hominem in the world won't change that. Proportions are obviously a weakness for you as well, but learning how to avoid symbol drawing would help fix that problem. Good luck, you insufferable cunt.
>>
>>2564851
He doesn't need to "replicate" reality. You can do that all you want, rude and pathetic loser who relieves stresses of living a miserable life on 4chan. He has his own style and a will to experiment with his own artistic path. You can say something is a "symbol drawing" to an art professor, and they won't understand what you are talking about. Because it's all in your head, and only you are lone advocate of your own ideology. It takes nothing to be rude and show what kind of tough guy you are, but a whole world of wisdom and experience to show respect for a fellow artist.
>>
>>2564867

I'm a different guy, dumbass. Symbol drawing has a clear, rigid definition, which that drawing does not match.

The fact that you're throwing it around makes you look like some retard at Radio Shack trying to tell me how many gigabytes of memory a power supply unit has. You're not fooling anyone who's knowledgeable, and you're making yourself look like an idiot by applying it incorrectly.

The problem with this drawing is readily apparent to anyone who's done portrait drawing; the proportions are wrong. It shows no signs of symbol drawing outside of the shape of the eyes.

You didn't notice the obviously way off base proportions. But you DID throw around a buzzword that noobs tend to favor, even though it doesn't apply.

But by all means, let's see some of your work and you can prove me wrong about how you're a shit artist who has relegated himself to the role of critic, which you also can't seem to manage.

Symbol drawings are oversimplified contours that fail to convey proper anatomical knowledge and form. Clarity or rigidity aren't important factors.
