I work at a town hall and all those who doubt the election results are idiots. let me explain:
deadline for written requests for the mailed votes was wednesday last week - so that the post can deliver the votes to the district authorities on friday at the latest.
personal requests were taken until friday 12:00 am last week. that's for people who want to bring their vote to a poll site of whereever the fuck they are.
on saturday I had to go to the local post office to ask for any remaining votes so I can take them with me on election day when I bring the whole paper work to the district authorities.
on sunday we've had 4 people from vienna (I'm located in styria), 2 from a neighouring district and 2 further voters from my own village who brought their mailed votes with them to the poll.
those votes stayed sealed, we did not open them. I had to write down from where they came from and of course how many I've got. for the second election day I've given out 105 mailing votes. that's double the amount that usually gets given out.
after we closed the polls at 12 on sunday, the election board counted only the votes that were given that day. the board consists of members of all parties, so there's no rigging possible.
I've finished the paperwork at 2 pm and drove to the district authorities where they controlled my protocols.
the last polls closed at 5 pm. until then it was possible for all the townships to bring their protocols and mailed votes that people gave to them on that day. all other votes that came on time to the district authorities were held closed until every last mailed vote came in.
it's already a task to count all the votes that were given in polls and impossible for hundreds of thousands of mailed votes to be counted on the same day. people wanna go home on a sunday too. so they are counted on monday.
