They're not.

Good/Amazing programmers never mention their job, their coding, or their years of experience sitting in front of a PC for thousands of hours doing debugging, tutorials, etc..

They are too busy making $96k-$250k a year working at home for mega-corporations to post on twitter or tumblr.

Yeah what's up with that? Most programmers still are just ordinary nerd weirdos though. I just really like computers, sci-fi, vidya, have assburger and usually stay in my house. I used to be the weirdo, but now there's so much weirder that I barely register. We were never special snowflakes either; just loathed.

Because "women in tech" is the hot topic right now, so dudes who can't compete or otherwise want a competative edge, convince themselves they're chicks out of desperation.

Just like every other reason that dudes decide that they're totally and really and absolutely passable pretty pretty girlies.

And the poo in the loos are cheaper than paying local wages and more than happy to displace natives for a payday. Their countries are rife with corruption and entirely lacking of anything but the pretense of honor, and by that premise so are their societies and personalities.

Those who are most vocal about coding are those who have an agenda to politicize. This means WOMYN, trannies, and blacks are always going on about how they're "tech geeks". It comes from a sense of inferiority.

I was autistic long before I even got into programming (I'm actually an EE major and I also have some hardware skills). I was literally in special education for a year when I was about 10. Honestly it's being raise in New York City that's more likely the reason I'm so fucked up though.

i think that programming, especially in a coporate environment, is very stressful because people are constantly forcing you to work over hours or work faster and harder than is sustainable. people expect way too much for way too little pay, and in corporations you also have to deal with additional layers of obfuscation and complexity, basically programming with no freedom.

people deal with it in different ways. some people go insane, others become heavy drinkers, and who knows what else. i know i've been drinking like crazy to unwind and blow off steam.

PHP is easy if you have a pre-existing understanding of the fundamental programming concepts and methodologies

SQL is a bit different, but it's easy to learn, moderately difficult (or just time consuming) to master. of course it really depends on what SQL dialect you're using.

that's nice that you have something to fall back on.

honestly i enjoy coding, i just don't enjoy re-designing the same thing 5 times because specifications keep changing and because users are retarded in general. that, or being pulled off of important work to implement "important" changes that in the grand scheme of things wouldn't matter if the users could be arsed to learn a thing or two every now and again.

Are programmers in the US concerned about their job security, like getting replaced by H1b visa recipients? Or what do you think about the future perspectives in their industry, in general. Especially those of you, who work in web development (js, php and so on).

How long do you want to write the code anyway? I've heard that a lot of programmers don't want the job anymore after they reach 30-35+ years. It's probably not very exciting to code when you're a 50 year old geezer with sight problems and hemorrhoids.
Especially if you have to compete with young 20 year old students, who learn new things much faster.

>I can't see how programming wouldn't be bad for your mental health.

Programming is amazing for your mental health. It doesn't mean someone from India can't be a programmer and be completely clueless about it. There's plenty of awful Indian programmers, I've seen enough of their code to know that they are being taught only enough to be able to hold a shitty job.

>>74096477

It could just be your upbringing. There's a lot of baggage that you can drop down. I believe the 20s is a perfect age to undo conditioning. You're an autistic programmer, yes? Treat your brain like a computer for a moment and see what's inside of it. Or take some psychedelics if it's hard, but the goal is to see all the steps that lead to an [action] that you make. Yes, including thoughts (which are actions) have an entire groundwork laid already that you don't normally notice. Humor the idea of toying with your own mind for a bit and try to find out what "fucked up" means to you and why you think you're fucked up.

At the end of the day, your brain is the only reference point you'll ever truly have. Things go in, things go out, but you never actually interact with anything outside of you. All those thoughts you have of what others think or what's outside your front door.. they're all still things going on inside your head. Don't get caught up in your mind, or else you'll never learn to use it appropriately when it comes to programming.

C++ is one of the best possible beginner language.

It's beyond me why anyone would do Java for entry-level programming. There is a shitload of overhead that makes Java extremely frustrating to beginners.
In C++ you can cut off the entire OOP shit until the user is ready. You can also easily do interactive console software with cin/cout, instead of C's printf bullshit and Java's complete inability to do console input.

No shit you'll do mathematics in CS, where you make new algorithms and shit. It's a fucking science.
Programming itself is not a science. It's a craft. Mathematics are not required, outside of basic logic.

>>74099198
Basic is way too restricted to appeal to beginners. They'll just wonder what the fuck it's useful for.

Maybe Assembler instead, to get into the correct mindset. It's the most simple thing with the lowest hurdle to entry, as well as a system that forces you to think like a programmer.

Pascal might be a better proper beginner language, though. Does anyone even use it anymore?

And isn't Python just scripting?

What are the basic things you need to know to be able to get a job in programming and be good at it? For instance, a C++ based job. What exactly do you need to know? Aside from the typical programming shit what about theory based stuff like design patterns?

And prior projects that sound relevant. Internships. And finally you need a reference that already works within the company. The more senior the reference the better your standing.

What you've described is how to get an interview. Maybe an offer letter if they like you. What i'm describing is how you get 5 offer letters, and how you negotiate on starting wage.

Learning a language and applying that knowledge practically are 2 different things.

I know Python, but I don't list it on my resume. If I mention I know Python and apply to a Python job, the first question I get is "what projects have you worked on using Python?"

I come from a place of a bit more privilege since I have enterprise projects in the "biz" under my belt. But even still, if I can't even name a side project that I've worked on, no one gives a fuck. And that project has to be relevant to something that I'm interviewing for.

The only way you land a job with little to no previous project experience in a language you just learned is if they're paying you peanuts anyway.

they don't, but, that isn't the be-all end-all of your job. you will be hired into a position and then you will be compared with all the other people who have ever worked there, doing your job or another one like it.

if, relatively speaking, you perform like shit because you never completed a CS degree from a top 50 college, then it will show. instead of telling yourself "no one needs to know those things" you ought to be telling yourself "the reason i only make like $70k programming is because i'm practically interchangeable with poo-in-loos and are completely outclassed by programmers whom i know nothing about and if i ever saw them demonstrate their ability alongside me at this job i might actually quit out of emotional insecurity."

>>
>>74100751
>Then when you get the job completely forget all that garbage and do the code monkey shit.

Code monkey shit is supplying a list of user stories, interfaces, framework requirements and expected results... and even with that ridiculous amount of hand holding, they still find a way of being behind schedule and giving a partially functional deliverable.

What I've described to you is what most higher-tier software engineers do. You spend 90% of your time researching frameworks, trying to parse there legalese, demoing 2 to 5 different framework implementations with the desired functionality.

And then you write a report with pros & cons of each one. You have legal look at the framework licenses. You have your project manager look at the cost of the frameworks. You have your net security guy check the frameworks.. and god forbid it's not native to the language you're working in.

After all of that you can begin work on architecting your implementation so that it can be passed off to code monkeys.

You can stop sniffing your own farts. Having people quiz you on Dijkstra's during an interview to get a job vs. randomly bringing up Dijkstra's during a meeting to self-flagellate are two different things.

Once you have the job that knowledge is implied. You bring it up when necessary. Coordinating with other teams/developers. Handling management work, and then still having time to throw architectures on the white board & show off proofs of concept are what keep the lights on. Extended implementation is more monotonous than difficult.

I fucking hate programmers. They are honestly the most elitist and difficult to work with profession I've ever encountered. I can't count the number of times some neckbeard CS faggot who has dedicated his life to learning a niche language or some useless esoteric random shit nobody cares about has scoffed at some minor style choice or how I've configured vim.

Like nobody gives a shit. It's completely unproductive to be this autistic and pedantic for shit that actually doesn't matter. These same fuckers don't have any clue how to reduce branching, increase cache efficiency and structure communications to minimize overhead which is stuff that actually affects performance. They obfuscate for their own benefit and not to benefit others which is infuriating in a team environment.

I always have more respect for physicists or engineers that have programming as a skillset rather than a CS major. They don't seem to have caught the autism olympics virus. All they need is a little guidance in code standards and OO paradigms and they're already more productive than the dude who spends 8 hours configuring his terminal so it's "highly efficient".
