In my opinion, they should bomb the shit out of the fire.

All that dirt and shockwaves from explosions would help put out the fire.

This is fucking hilarious. Canada is so fucked.

You guys don't even realize how bad it is. If it was just a forest fire, sure, it'd suck but you can clean up, move on and repair the damage.

This is an oil sand fire. Which means that under every square meter of burning land, there is a thousand square meters of tarry oil smouldering and burning. The ground itself is on fire and it will be for decades.

The last time anything like this happened was Centralia in the US. The entire city had to be abandoned and the fire is still burning to this day. Every acre of Canadian land that starts burning now will be uninhabitable and unusable for a decade or more.

Sadly what a lot of Albertans are about to wake up to is the wrath of the Insurance-Jew. A girl I dated worked for an insurance company during the flooding of Calgary and High River. The acts of desperation that people were committing were terrible. People were defecating in their basements to make it look like their sewage lines backed up because insurance adjusters would say it was an act of god. By the end of this disaster, you'll get to see how fucked these companies really are.

they mine oil. Basically they have asphalt and sand mixed together, and they dig it up and process it.

This oil has tons of sulfur, and thus it is removed to upgrade the oil before sale. Thing is there is more sulfur produced then used in the world, so it stockpiled. Even with production slowed down and stopped, they have years worth of sulfur stockpiled.

Threadly Reminder that the NDP and Liberals will let Alberta burn.

>Pic related was an NDP candidate from Lethbridge's tweet yesterday calling the fire karma for climate change.

He has since taken it down, but what great insight to what they really think about Albertans behind closed doors. An entire city of people from across the entire country, 80 000 people, are evacuated. Many are leaving everything behind knowing they will never see it again. Photos, possessions, personal items that can never be replaced will never be found. During this time Tom Moffatt posts this.

>>

>The process to separate oil from oily sand produces a shit ton of sulfur.

No.

Oil and natural gas is generally contaminated with sulfur. It is removed because when it burns releases the sulfur that combines with water to make acid. Then you have acid rain.

Sulfur can be found in any oil or gas formation. That the oil comes from oil sands doesn't make the problem any worse. It's just that they are processing so much oil in such a small area that they have huge amounts of sulfur to deal with.

They'll call in the smoke-jumpers before they call in the grunts. As of right now most of the fire-caches in Oregon are geared up for sending the plane jumpers to California to fight wildfires so their the only ones ready to make it there in time to actually do any good.
Not enough fire shelters and Mk.5 pumps to go around these days thanks to Oregon's shitty understanding of budget priorities.

I'm at Vancouver Wharves right now, actually. The sulfur system is down for a refit, but Port Moody ships it and they haven't been receiving anything for the last little while.
>>
>>73139095
It doesn't burn very well. When the sulfur trains come into the ports in the Vancouver area they are sometimes on fire. Every now and then the piles of sulfur catch on fire and burn. But because it doesn't have a good way to mix the sulfur with air it mostly smothers out and stops burning.

WTF does that have to do with anything?

Current design has safety issues that require lots of engineering controls to ensure the safest operation of any power source.
Suggest better designs that are more intrinsically safe due to a different superior design.

Demand for iron/steel is non existent. Look at the price of scrap, you don't see crack heads collecting junk atm. When scrap is down, iron ore for new production slow/shipping dies. A lot of iron would come through the Great Lakes from Superior/Duluth or from Sept isle/Port Cartier Quebec and head overseas. There's not much moving now. Also with the easy winter there's still large stockpiles of road salt in major cities.

Over 10 years ago, yes, but like with any technology, the process gets refined as manufacturing progresses and companies that deal with green energy out sell competitors that have more damaging foot prints. Basically, they have to pick up their pant legs and show lower numbers and they have been since initial 2004 reports.
