Alright, so i'm currently giving a short course of lectures in the US, and one things is really irking me about the conversations I am having with other educators. They all have deep criticisms of the way the system runs, which is fine. It's not really my system, and i'm a guest within it, so I have no real right to criticise it.
But the ONE talking point they always bring up is that classes teach "useless information", and when asked what subjects should be taught, they always say the same thing:
"we don't even teach our kids to do taxes!"
Maybe it's an American thing, but..why would you waste time on teaching children how to properly give their money to the government? If it was slightly different, if the answer they gave was "we should teach children about civics and the structure of the US government more" that'd be great..but they always push that students should be taught to "PAY TAXES".
Can anyone tell me why this might be? Are Americans just eager cucks to the government or what? Evidence seems to lean away from that, but...well, enlighten me.
