Lel. The cringe is real.
Anyway, I just carry my x100s and an extra battery. Fuck schlepping around a whole kit like a mule.
If I'm using my dslr, I'll still bring one lens, always a prime, usually telephoto.
>>2825247

What else would you have me call it? Everyone knows the gear thread is for arguing about sony
Shit that you take with you doesn't really have a nice ring to it

I prefer my little rhyme I did but you're probably right. I can see how it'd offend people who hate people that carry around those field notebooks and have those REMOVE AFTER FLIGHT keychains
>>2825255
I get easily offended by FIELD NOTES, it's true.
Anyway, what do you carry around?
>>2825259
I figured I'd put the thread up right now and take my pic when I get back home tomorrow. All my gear is 100 miles away right now
Usually a k-50 with the da 35mm and a 135mm super takumar and a real crap tripod along with some nd filters if I'm shooting digital anyways
I usually bring two lenses appropriate to the kind of pictures I intend to take, rain cover, maybe filter if it's really crap weather with wind, air puffer, cloth. That's it.
Haven't got a pic atm cause I haven't seem muh 550D charger in months.
Its only ever one camera and lens and sometimes a sekonic 308 light meter
>550D + 24mm f2.8 STM pancake (APS-C)
>FED 3 + Industar 26 (50mm f2.8, Fool Frame)
>KIEV 6C + Volna 3 (80mm f2.8, 6x6 MF)
All my lenses are just equivalent normal lenses for their format.
Also have the Canon 70-300 (cromabs like a cunt), Canon 35-80, Ricoh 50mm f2.
Never use them and also an EOS 500, and a Menelta SLR I never use.

Took a pic a while back, so might as well post it. This is what goes to work with me every day, minus the 70-200 sometimes.
I've been thinking about switching to Fuji, I don't really need FF and I really like my X100. The reduction in size and weight would be really nice. The only thing really holding me back is not being sure if Fuji's flash system will do what I need.

Shitty cell photo but anyway, I used to haul stuff around by the ton, nowadays this is pretty much the maximum. 300mm only when doing school projects on the side (traffic observations). I usually take the Nettar along in case I get hit by inspiration for MF shots. Rarely happens, but the camera takes up very little space folded up. A nifty fifty (Industar in the photo but I also use the MD one), a quick 135, and 28mm MD is my usual trifecta. Mostly doing UE stuff and post card nature shooting these days.

I don't know about you, but I don't stash my gear in the car or live in a Latin world shithole.
I just throw my xpro2 with the 35f2 around the shoulder and put a spare battery in my pocket and I'm good to go.
This is what I take with me when traveling, for the city I use a Bellingham if not just a generic hiking bag and keep the gear in a little mini lens carrier. For my work my EDC is a 5Diii, 7D, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 and whatever primes I may need + flash. I will sometimes bring flash with me with the Fuji set up too and a mini tripod and of course all the little things like ND filters, cleaning kit etc.
Next lens for me is the 55-200 fuji and the 56mm 1.2 to replace my K mount 50 1.7

I refuse to buy a bag or carry any more than this. Normally I have just the GR, I'll add on a big camera if I'm going out specifically for the purpose of taking photos. Also the D700 may have a different lens on it or I may use an F100 or F3 instead of the D700. Also my tripod is always in the trunk of my car if I need it.

I like the flexibility of individual cases for everything. I can whap it all in a satchel and have almost as easy access.

Pretty simple. Ricoh GR in my right jacket pocket, film point & shoot in the left (currently recently acquired Konica AA-35, also use an XA and Mju II). I have two spare batteries for the GR in whatever bag I'm carrying usually.
When I don't mind carrying it or am out specifically to take photos, I take the X-T10 and 35mm f1.4. No extra batteries because I'm a madman (and the ones I ordered got lost in the mail, at least got a refund). Usually just transfer the pictures I like most to my iPad over wifi, process in VSCO and upload to Instagram.
Just an X100T. Not even batteries or an SD card, I'm a purist.

What's the big round thing with foam on it? Some kind of acoustic blocking thingy?
I know a decent amount about recording stuff but it's mostly studio music recording and sound for video, never seen one of those things before.
>>2831672
it's called a Jecklin disk. it roughly simulates some of the acoustic characteristics of the human head. in my opinion it's pretty much the best stereo technique for immersive ambient recordings (locations, nature)
it's not the best technique for absolutely everything, but it gives you all the benefits of using spaced omni mics without having to compromise level difference with time difference (by spacing them further or closer). it's almost binaural with this thing, but not so specifically binaural that it sounds like trash outside of headphones.
they're used in the studio a good amount, particularly for big sound sources though - like pep organs and orchestras
it enables me to mount both mics on one stand (tripod) and get a really sweet stereo image. other techniques (coincident techniques like XY and MS, and spaced pairs like AB omnis) just aren't very effective for this sorta thing

Interesting, that makes a lot of sense. I hadn't run into one before, but I've also never messed with big sound recording, just have family with a home studio for recording rock stuff.
>>2831676
there's some dolt on YT who has a wildly popular video where me makes a jecklin disk a few different ways and tests them out. it really chafes my jimjams because:
1. he built it wrong (wrong dimentions and choice of materials)
2. he completely misunderstands the acoustical concepts behind it
3. he mounts his mics onto it wrong (wrong spacing, wrong aiming, not the ideal kind of mic in the first place)
**4. he tests it about 1m away from himself playing acoustic guitar. the smallest thing i would record with it might be a grand piano (unless you're specificially trying to record the room). what a wanker.
so yeah, not commonly employed in typical studio settings

I mostly use a 5D2 with PW TT5/Mini TT1/AC3 and 600EXs; have sipped the Fuji Koolaid back to the X Pro 1 and X100s. Have had some success using the PWs on X cameras, but you end up - until the XP2 came out - with a sync speed of 1/100 with the slower Fuji sync speeds and radio triggers. BUT- the Canon-spec TT1 has a conflict with the X Pro 2. Ended up using a couple of shitty Yongnuo 580EX knockoffs with the XT-1's clip on flash as an optical trigger until I recently found the YN knockoff of the Canon wireless transmitter-now I'm using that to trigger my 600EXs and I'm fairy stunned how reliable it's been. So I have reliable remote triggering and output control without a Pocketwizard. Finally, I'm now starting to think I'll ditch my remaining Canon bodies/lenses.
On the Nikon side, there's a company called... Robo, I think, that has Fuji triggers that will support Nikon TTL. Might be worth looking into.
I've predominately shot Canon but have quite a bit of time using D800s and 810s, D1s, D2s and D3s, and I've always felt a bit left behind in the flash world shooting Canon. I would say if you're considering the jump to Fuji, don't half arse it- get an X Pro 2 or wait for an XT-2, because if you're used to 1/250 sync, being stuck at 1/180 might really piss you off.
>>2832797
My XT1 works at 1/250
>>2832801
Really? I'll have to try that. Always? Or updated in FW?
>>2832814
I never tried it before the update, I'm sorry.
>>2832797
The XT-2 is what I'm considering, when it comes out. The thing that will really suck to lose, if I have to lose it, is FP sync though, I use it a lot.
>>2832994
Leverage the X100 and its leaf shutter, perhaps?
this is generally what I carry every day. Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Also there's one roll each of Neopan Acros and Tri-X in the bag, plus extra batteries and some other stuff. Sorry for the size/quality, posting from my phone.

You should really be buying Hoya, if you're going the cheap route. Tiffen is honestly garbage tier these days. 77mm Hoya HMC stuff is cheap if you get it used off KEH. I've got yellow, red, and 81A for my RZ lenses, plus I can always use a step down ring for other systems.

>>2833150
So when somebody implied you could buy a RB67 with the change found in your couch you assumed they meant with three lenses and a prism finder? Or with the 50mm, extra backs, grip and filters?
My RB67 in good condition with the 90mm K/L and a single 120mm back was $250 and that was overpaying. Of course it's going to be $800 if you buy it with more shit. You may as well say that all Rabals cost thousands*.

It is a 600 f/4.
Just hold the mount. Bit of practice, and using it accurately is no problem. To get really quick with it, I confined myself to a crop body and 1.4x TC for a few weeks then went with full frame. After the crop factor and magnification were removed, it felt super easy and natural.
After 4 years I don't even notice the weight anymore, either... 8 or 10 hours of walking with it is a regular thing. Have used a tripod maybe 20 times when setting up blinds. But even then, I find it more convenient to just hold it.

Never held a 500 f/4, but depending on the version I think it's 3 or 4 pounds lighter.
When I use a tripod or even monopod, I feel confined, considering how unpredictable wildlife is. Plus, it's just more stuff to dick with / put away / lose / get caught on branches.
>>2840896
Yeah, that makes sense.
I guess the big difference is that you don't have to sit there for hours on end staring down the lens, I dunno how I didn't think of that point to begin with. With wildlife you lift the camera and take a shot, while with racing you basically pick a spot and sit there for 20 minutes with the shutter held down if it's for headon shots, or you stand there and do panning shots as fast as you can on car after car.

Favorite animal?
Thanks man!
Any recommendations for a new shoulder bag to fit pic related? One that doesn't look like garbage, but less than the cost of an ONA?

Which version of the bessa's is this?
Thinking about potentially getting one but unsure which to go for.
>>2843164
it's the normal R. Would have gone for the R2, but it has no self timer and madame always likes photos of both of us + I already had some m39 glass.
Due to my personal taste I'd recommend the R2, but this is just because I prefer the rewind knob of the R and R2 over the ones on later models.
If you want aperture priority get some A, otherwise get an M model.. the A models do not work without batteries.

im jelly
>>2843174
not really an aperture priority kind of guy
R2 looks up my alley, best places to find them? I had a quick look on eBay and can only really find the R2S and the like.

While we're on the subject of bags...
I just got a Canon 80D. I hike and spend a lot of time Downtown hanging out / doing street photography.
Any good backpack recommendations for me? I've heard for the Niko Backpack and the Langly Backpack Alpha Pro.
Any opinions on either of these bags? Or other recommendations? P.S. Aesthetics do somewhat matter to me.
I'd like a backpack that can pack more than just camera and lenses. I only have 2 lenses camera and a joby gorillapod. Packing a jacket, wallet/passport, and other random shit would be a huge asset for me.
Do these hybrid bags even exist?

May I ask your your field / industry ?
Yall a bunch of fuckin hipsters. I just can't believe all the film shooters you see in these threads. Nobody gives a fuuuuuck that you shoot film and that's literally the only reason any of you do it. All your doing is inconveniencing yourself to please the voice in your head that tells how cool you are. You filthy cocksucking hipsters.why dont you sell that leica so you can afford more curl defying shampoo and gay-ass leather bags. And dumbass pointy shoes. And then why dont you smash your face with a hammer and post results.
Oh wait that would take you like a week cuz you have to send your film out to be developed.
Lol you suck

How many photos of coffee mugs have you taken today?
>>2844131
I've been lusting after a langley.
I have the Chrome Niko backpack (the largest one) and a Niko Messenger. Both are excellent and well built. I feel totally comfortable carrying around my cameras in them even during rainstorms.

redpill me about the meme gr
>why is it called meme gr? whats memetic about it? do many people use it?
>is it worth what its going for right now?
>does it have any special look to the way it takes pictures? why do people prefer it over other pocketables?
>>2845290
>why is it called meme gr? whats memetic about it? do many people use it?
Many people on /p/ use it. Anything that some portion of people on any board on 4chan like will inevitably be called a meme by everyone else. The GR line has existed for a long time but was always an obscure camera with a very dedicated but very small cult following. When the digital APS-C GR came out, the GR line was suddenly thrust into the spotlight and for a short while was very "in" and generated a lot of noise on the internet and in many ways pretty unmatched except by the Nikon Coolpix A which the GR totally eclipsed anyway.
>is it worth what its going for right now?
I love mine, it's followed me around the world and become probably my favorite camera and I would gladly pay the $800+ preorder price I paid originally for it all over again, so whatever price you can get it for now is a good price in my opinion.
>does it have any special look to the way it takes pictures? why do people prefer it over other pocketables?
No, it's a pretty neutral camera with a lens that it perfectly good but has no particularly distinct look to it or anything like that. People prefer it because it's more pocketable than most pocketables and although it has a very specific little niche, it fits that niche absolutely perfectly. If you want a small digital camera with highly effective and customizable ergonomics and with no viewfinder and a 28mm equivalent lens then this is the camera for you.
>why can't I just post these damn questions in the gear thread?
I was wondering the same thing, too.
