#45- "2-Day Weekends Aren't Long Enough" Edition
Previous Thread:
>>771992
Is it Friday yet? These weekends go by way too fast, not enough time for fishing. Maybe I will get off work at a decent time one or two days this week and get out there. I doubt it.
Talk about fishin.
Props to anon for making this to help the new people out.
>>773675
Catfish will go for anything dead or alive if it is sitting on the bottom. Half a bluegill, chicken livers, nightcrawlers. But my favorite is probably pic related. Grab a jar of dip bait, not that dough bait that comes in balls. And then get the dip bait rigs for like $2 or $3.
Tie up the rig, put a stick through the little tube on the rig, and coat it in dip bait.
Peps you finally posted a girl I would wife in a heartbeat.
>>773576
>I wonder why braid doesn't dig into itself on spinning reels like that.
It does on my reel with 12lb braid, but you won't notice on cast. I've just noticed if I'm letting it free spool to get the lure to the bottom it's sometimes dig into itself.
Also, does anyone else thing meme caster give you more feedback related to sensitivity? I feel like the do, but maybe it's in my head.
>>773681
Maybe it's how you hold it? Or just the rod is more sensitive. My one memecaster is incredibly light so it's easy to feel any little bump with the braid.
And yeah, that girl is a qt with the freckles.
>>773680
Better pic of the tubes
>>773676
Just realized this is missing one staple- poppers. Could go there right next to the Jitterbug.
>>773689
Might be since I kinda cup the reel and my index finger is usually on the line too. And I dunno about the rods since I have a blackout for spinning and casting so they should be similar. It's not enough to make a real difference either way.
>>773698
He's me, bub, kvd, pepsifag, and hatchery anon
i dont know where to fish tomorrow, i hi9t 3 ponds today and didnt get shit but gills the 4th pond i hit i got 2 bass at 2-2.5 lbs each
>>773700
I was thinking maybe the balance, like holding the memecaster in your palm, it is higher up on the rod than you would typically hold a spinning setup so that could add to it.
>>773707
Don't forget TXlizardfag and Miami anon. All me.
>>773711
you also forgot the anon who asked thw question, youre them too right?
>>773715
Severe multiple personality disorder.
At least I bring enough rods for all of them.
>>773700
My theory is that because the line wind is more consistent (side to side in a 1 inch line vs around a 3 inch circle) there is more consistent tension on the line and The reel is in your hand instead of hanging at the end of a stick there is less middle man

What's a good fishing pole to give out as a gift?
I want it for my dad for his birthday. I figured instead of some generic shit like cologne I'll give him something he can use often.
Got a budget of around 100-150 american dollaroos.
>>773764
Imo, lures are always better to gift compared to rods/reels unless you know the exact model they need/want.
what is cutest fish
I need to fuck a fish
>>773764
Better question is.. Take a picture of what he has.. Maybe if you can. Spin a few of his reels. Idk any fisherman that wouldnt want a reel that was all new and smooth. And god knows we have plenty of old grindy ones.
>>773732
Kek this got me laughing at 6am on a Monday.
>>773812
Pic related
>>773764
I agree with the other people saying find out what he really likes before spending money on something he won't use.
I'll be fishing off the shores of Lake Erie tomorrow(and I think some small Tributaries)
Our targets are Perch, Catifsh, and maybe some Bass?(Not sure if walleye are catchable from the shore)
what soft plastics, lures, hooks, weights do I ideally need?
>>773887
Catfish will be different than the bass or perch. I posted earlier how I would go for them. Perch and bass at this time of year, I would probably just be running some Mepps or Rapalas. If you end up on a river, maybe the walleye rigs with some minnows. Pic related.

>>773941
Kek, I feel ya. Except you have so many shad cranks in the same color. I try and limit it to 2 of the same (except for my go-to Mepps which I have like 10 of the same color).
I blame Rapala. They are enablers. Worse than a heroin dealer with good prices.
>>773971
Does storing rubber in those boxes diminish the lures? I wanted to do that but was afraid they would dry out or the scent would wear off, so I keep them in the bags.
>>773907
What about timing? AM? PM?
Fishing is just a relaxer for me so I dont need to catch, but I do want my buddy to have a good time on his first day ever fishing
>>773972
Nah they don't really dry out. I just found a bunch of plastics my dad bought in the 90s in plank boxes that have been in the garage and they still work great. I keep scented plastics in the bag though.
>>773975
dusk is usually best time as you're awake so no get up early stuff.
I love watching fish jumping everywhere around me.
>>773975
Idk about perch, bass is normally dusk or dawn, and a lot of people will do catfish at night but you can get them all day. My most productive time is always dusk, get out there 2hrs before sunset and stay til whenever they stop biting.
>>773972
Depends on the bait but it is fine for a lot of soft plastics.
There are two issues I have run into though:
1) The colors can bleed into eachother. Powebaits like to do this. If you put a red worm and a white one next to eachother, the white one will turn red or pink.
2) Some soft baits have chemicals that can fuck with other rubbers, so don't keep them next to spinnerbaits, jigs, or anything else with a rubber skirt.
>>773985
>colors can bleed into each other
Learned this the hard way with my $14 formerly pearl white gamechanger flies.
Can someone post the el cheapo approved under 100$ rods?
>>774003
Idk if it's "approved" but these are some solid choices you can find lots of places. If you want to go right about $100, a Pfleuger President would be my choice.
Top to bottom, left to right.
1) Abu Garcia Ike 2- $39
2) Quantum Bill Dance- $39
3) Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2- $49
4) Pflueger Trion- $59
5) Bass Pro Tourney Pro- $59
6) Lew's Laser Speed Spool- $59
7) Abu Garcia Cardinal SX- $69
8) Daiwa Revros- $69
9) Mitchell 300- $69
10) Pflueger President- $79
11) Shimano Sedona/Sellus- $89
12) Mitchell 300 Pro- $89
13) Abu Garcia Orra S- $99
>want to go fishing
>spend close to 100 dollarydoos on a basic setup
Nice sport you got here
>>774027
For the amount of enjoyment and tasty fish you get for that 100 big boy bucks, fishing is the best sport. All of us fat autistic weebs on a Chinese watercolor painting forum are athletes.
>>774027
You could have bought or made a $10 cane pole, pack of hooks and some nightcrawlers. It is as cheap as you want it to be senpai.
Is the lone supposed to run through this notch?
>>774038
yep, that keeps the line close to the rod and helps avoid tangles
>>774038
nope, thats for hooking your hook on when you arent fishing to avoid having a shapr dangly thing flying around so you dont loose your eyes
>>774048
yes, always string the line through the small loop at the bottom, unless you like tangled line. It keeps things squared up and close to the rod, and tension on the line so it goes in and out of the reel smoothly. You will have tangled line and lose fish if you don't use it.
>>774048
without, But go ahead and go use it with it
>>774038
ive only ever used that to rest hooks and rigs from flopping about.
>>774038
Don't listen to the anon telling you to run your line through it. It'll cast like shit if you do. That's just for holding hooks.
>>774038
Emely pls...
>>774058
I think it's deceiving how they do the hook keeper on those GX2's because Miami anon did the same thing.
>>774027
> only 100
Every sports require you to spend $100 minimum on basic gear except for maybe poverty sports like divegrass or apehoop. Even for those sports, a decent footwear alone can put you over 100.
>>773812
The cutest
>>774070
I've probaby spent around $2k in the past 6mos on fishing stuff, maybe more. Sucks I don't have some $900 Shimano reel on a G. Loomis rod but those $50 purchases add up.
>>774084
Well american and europoor football are both poverty sport as well. You are going to have to move on from playing with shitty shoes and baby flag football eventually though for american football. Poverty ball (divegrass) is a bit more low cost and that's why it is popular in every countries, even poor ones.
You can also fish with hook, bait and line tied to a tree branch if you want.
>>774084
>score hole
Jesus christ.
A pair of cleats is at least a bill anyway.
I think hockey was the worst. Especially since I did it when I was young and grew out of all my shit every few months.
Fishing is nice because although ai have an addiction to tackle, I can still get out there for the price of gas if I'm tight on money.
>just got off work
>cloudy and cooler all day, fishin weather
>sun comes out as i'm walking to my car
Did some surf casting out on plum island in mass. Caught like 15 of these fuckers, nothing big yet, water needs to get a little warmer
>>774099
Damn, I'm suprised you aren't getting bigger guys since Mainebub was getting them close to 30"
Speaking of Mainebub, how are things up there on the homestead?
>>774105
On a spinning reel? Really?
Fix it now and go cast. You will probably get like 50% more distance.
>>774098

I used to gas like once every 3 weeks at best. I've filled my truck 3X this week. Chasing the dream... ain't cheap
>>774072
I really want more rods to tailor to specific lures, but I can't really justify it without a boat since I wouldn't carry them all at once on land.
>>774106
I saw another dude down the beach get a keeper. Some of the big guys are out there but there's so many schoolies out there it's hard to get one. Every other cast I was pulling in one of them. Shit was crazy
>>774099
I fished the big ditch yesterday for the 1st time. Caught my 1st canal striper. Came in at a whopping 13" WTF?
Biggest is still 24"
I'm hungry. Back out again in a few hours.
>>774115
The schoolies will move on soon and you will start seeing the big guys. Hope you get your first 20 pounder this year. Shits a blast
>>774111
thats why when i can i will walk to my fishing spots, i have one spot just a mile from my house and a few others between one and 3 miles thats somewhat doable ,
>>774113
I always seem to bring 4-6 rods with me and then end up carrying around 3 or 4. Or at least bringing them to the shore. Lots of different lines and stuff but most shit I just prefer a rod with faster action. The Fenwick rod is the only one I use a lot with a more medium action and I have mixed feelings about it. I'm starting to dislike using Ugly Stiks because of he slower action though.
>>774108
This is where'd I'd send a private message and say b8ing....
>>774123
I couldn't tell. If that is the same anon who originally replied to the question saying they run it through the hook keeper, they seemed serious. If you look at those GX2 rods, it almost looks like a small guide and like I said Miami anon did the exact same thing when she strung up her GX2.
>>774120
I can walk to 1 pond. At ocean I do more than enough walking when I get there. And my god, the fucking houses I've seen lately.
I've got like 6 places I really like to shore fish and it's a big circle and I sometimes loop it 2 or 3 times a day.
Plus scoping out sites I think might be good from Maps. My town alone has 87 points of access to water.
Sometimes there is only 3 or 4 parking places so I have to go to another...
>>774113
One day, there can be a personal drone carrying all of the fishing rods and tackle for you. That's why you should just buy all of those extraneous rods and tackles so that you will have them ready when the day comes.
Tbh, that's the reason why I haven't fished with live bait fish for a while, since I would have to haul a bucket filled with water with them around. I rather use lures even though it might not be as effective. Crustaceans are easier to manage, store, and keep alive so I use those sometimes as live bait.
>>774125
Which is why I should trip
>>774084
Yeah, they have a pretty sweet action.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jcY2_XFjKY
What do you guys do with old lures? I have a few that I never use and I want to get out with the old and in with the new. I don't really have anyone to give them to.
>>774135
eBay them. I don't sell mine there but I buy a ton of them. I like old ones, and especially like the good deals when gramps dies and an ungrateful grandkid sells his stuff off cheap.
>>774135
tag sale, i have over a dozen rods, and reels im going to try to get rid of when i can
>>774121
Mostly I want more so I don't have to tie on new lures, but I can't carry that many. Kind of a catch 22.
As for the uglysticks I'll probably keep one around as a crank/swim bait rod since they're kinda slow.
>>774128
Lmao I just want a lake house and a boat one day. I'll be happy enough with that. A drone would be cool tho if it wasn't super expensive.
>>774135
Fish them in that lake that always swallows your shit.
Alternatively, I gave my little bro a ton of stuff. But I'll always find a use for lures and they will end up lodged in a log underwater when their time has come.
>>774135
You can sell them.
Interesting thing about lure though, old/new doesn't really determine the price of the lure much. Many of the older lures hold prices better than the new. A new lure can be released with a really high price and catch those sales of the initial hype. Then, it goes on sale and drop price steadily as the hype die though. However, some lures suddenly gain reputation, regional or worldwide, then slowly rise back in price and never drop again. Many lures take a whole decade to become popular and establish a high price because it takes so long for people to figure out how to use it and for its reputation to spread.
I would say that you should keep your lure because there're always new place you are unfamiliar with, and you don't want to risk losing a lure that you like because of some hidden structure. Certain species with sharp teeth are also lure robbers/killers as well so you can use older lures on those
>>774027
guys I just realized I'm an idiot and have 6lb line on a rod meant for 17lb
is this going to mess anything up, or is it ok to have 300yards of line on it
>>774157
The worst that could happen is the rod breaks due to the lower line weight. If you hook a 20 pound fish for example, the rod has to make up for the extra 14 pounds over line weight, whereas if you used 17 pound line the rod only needs to handle 3 pounds.
Question for other salt guys. Do you rinse your lures when you get home?
>>774163
Yes, lures, rod and reel all get rinsed. It is not a bad practice even for freshwater fishing desu.
>>774162
wouldn't the line snap before that happens? especially with something as light at 6lbs
>>774166
No, the reel is attached to the rod so most of the energy is transferred to the rod. It all works together as a single unit, don't think of line rod reel and lure as separate entities.
>>774162
>>774157
That's not how it work at all.
Is there a dedicated shitposter in fishing tackle general giving people false info now?
The rod will always hold its constant share of share and the line will hold its constant share. The weaker link will break first, which is the line in this case. Having rod matching the line can maximize the stress your set up can handle.
Line will most likely break, maybe even due to casting. A rod meant for 17lb won't load a light lure well to cast and will be heavy for the type of fishing you want to do. A 6 lb line would be too light and snap if you want to to cast something heavier that your rod can cast well
have a rod set for 14 lb line, but have it spooled with 50 lel
>>774165
thx!
think net tije i go out im going to go to a spot anc catch a bunch of baby bulheads, and creek chubs etc, maye if i can see a decent bass il use a chub for live bait
>>774165
What should I do to take better care of my freshwater rigs? All I do is fresh water, but they get laid on the ground quite frequently. Should I take them apart and grease the drag bearings?
>>774186
Just oil and grease bi-monthly and you will be fine.
>>774188
bi monthly seems really freaquently, i have reels that have gone 5 pus years without cleaning etc, that have been heavily abused ( dropped dunked etc) and theyre just fine all freshwater tho
>>774190
Up to you - if greasing something every 2 months is a chore then best of luck to you.
>>774190
Like a month ago, I took apart all my reels and greased them up for the first time in forever. Made them a little smoother, but you really have to abuse fishing reels for them to need to be oiled and greased. The moving parts are pretty much contained and there isn't a ton of load on them.
Dunking them in water or getting a ton of dirt and sand in them is another story.
>>774192
its not a chore, but i have some of my fathers reels that have litterally gone 10 plus years and work just fine, why change the oil in your car every five thousand miles, when you can change it every 250 miles?
>>774193
i check my reels when i feel something wrong, , or if its one i havent used in forever, the only time i have ever had issue with any fishing reel ever was when my little cousin left his reel on the beach overnight and the next morning i found it floating , had been soaking 8 plus hours in salt water, other then some minor rust on the handle, the only issue it had was a siezed bearing, soaked it in some wd4 overnight, and that fixedthe issue
>>774062
What that's not me. I've got a whole different rod and reel
>>774197
Is there anything WD-40 can't do?
But I agree, some of these people go overboard. I mean it isn't a bad thing, but not necessary at all. The grease inside normally stays clean unless you are in a really bad environment. I could probably put a couple drops of oil on some of the bearings more often though.
>>774203
actually wd to get the original rust off, then i used froglube to soak in to unsieze it , all natural, luby as fuck, edible, top notch
>>774202
Nah I know, I already yelled at you for it. But it is the same rod and the exact same thing you did. I was looking at one of my GX2's and it does kinda look like a guide.
I don't like when they do the hook keepers on that side of the rod. Some companies do them on the side or the back like pic related. My Fenwick Eagle has the hook keeper on the same side as the line and it gets caught up while casting sometimes.
>>774207
pink line? i like that hook keep
>>774208
It's Vermillion Red PowerPro but turns a little more pink after some hours of use.
I like that hook keeper too. Some of the rods just have the one U-shaped wires attached at both sides and you can't hook weedless Texas rigs on them.
>>774210
Abu Vendetta rod and Pflueger President LE reel.
>>774207
The casting GX2 has the hook keeper on the opposite side though. But it is that U-shape one that won't hold hooks with plastics on them.
And my other President reel is on a Bass Pro Graphite Series rod that has no hook keeper at all. That one is heavier so I like to run Texas rigs with a 1/2oz weight and I can't hook them anywhere without taking the bait off and hooking it on the guide. Those aren't super cheap rods either, they are $40. I could see them skipping the hook keeper on their $10 rods but the $40 ones should have one.
>>774217
I color match too,
Yellow powerpro looked a bit better before it faded but the gold/yellow /brown looks pretty good imho
>>774227
I have the hi-vis yellow Spiderwire on one reel where it matches, but I'm a big fan of moss green. That red does stand out quite a bit when I'm fishing clear water with picky fish. I guess that's why I have two spools of flourocarbon.
Not gonna lie, I'm starting to like the memecasters more and more as I get comfortable with them. I have #30 braid on this one and a 1/2oz Texas Rig and casting is effortless. If I put the same rig on a spinning reel with #30 braid, I would have to throw it twice as hard to get the same distance.
I have #20 on the other one and can cast 1/4oz stuff pretty well. I'm thinking I want to set up a finesse one for 1/8oz lures with #10 braid and maybe a 6' medium rod or possibly 7' but a bit lighter.
do they sell individual reels anywhere?
I mean, just the actual reel, none of the spinning gear.
It would be nice to be able to switch lines right quick, instead of having to empty a spool before you can change the line
also, what is the best way to dispose of excess line, just burn it? I most certainly don't want to throw it away
want a rod for fluking from kayak or boat, Just bought aq light surf rod, And an ultralight setup i cant keep doing this
>>774251
You can probably get an extra spool of you ask the manufacturer. Some reels come with extra ones, I have two for my Quantum.
eReplacementParts.com may have them too, they carry parts for tons of reels.
And as long as you don't leave your line on the shore or in the lake, I'm happy.
>>774246
The only reason I like spinning reels for finnese stuff is because you can let it free spool while the lure sinks. I can't get lighter lures to do that on the memecaster.
>>774252
I know of a couple good detox centers...
>>774255
nah, i have a cash income in slightly over a month, And im paid up in rent so im good
>>774258
I feel ya. I have 3 or 4 more combos I would like to setup in the near future, but they are going to end up being $200-$300 each most likely.
1) Nice 1000 series reel, maybe Abu Revo something on a 6' rod or one of those 7'3" ultralight rods
2) Higher end (compared to what I have) 3000 size combo on 6'6" or 7' rod. Want to do one of those $200 Shimano reels, can't remember the name of the line on a St. Croix rod.
3) Lighter baitcaster with #10 braid. Maybe Daiwa reel on whatever 7' rod
4) Penn Fierce, Battle II, or Spinfisher combo for pier fishing.
One day...

Sucks, I get a lot of gear there.

Friend of mine literally reeled in a tree from the bottom of the lake the other day, now I must get something that can do the same. What do you guys recommend?
Does anyone actually own this reel? I want a decent spinning reel and this has good reviews.

Pretty nice
Not sure how many of you guys try hair jigs
But they worked today when all else failed
7:15, just trying to decide where...
>>774319
I'm about to try that just because nothing is really biting today. A couple smaller ~12" largemouth and gar following the bait but that's it.
>>774322
Im finding them really versatile
i just wish i had gotten black or blue ones or get some black/blue/purple material to tie some myself
This one was the closest i had and it still worked pretty good
>>774326
No luck with that one. Might have gotten a nibble or two, had a Gulp curly tail trailer on it but these fish ain't biting.
Idk what it is. It has been really warm for the past two weeks, then rained a lot last week, and todal it cooled off like 10F and was cloudy a lot of the day. I saw a ton of largemouth cruising the shoreline which normally means they won't bite a lot. Most of the time it's like 8"-10" bass that cruise close to shore, but today I saw a handful of ~14" ones too
At least I got a new rattler. Just pulled that one out of the weeds. One day I need to get my plopper back from the other side. I also need to find a lake that isn't overfished by nigs who eat all the nice bass.
About to talk to neighbor about going out , fluke fishing and hitting the strippers as well, check weather and find out its going to rain fot the next week , fuck me
>>773941
>9+ crank bait in same color
wtf anon?
>>774357
why not?
>>774357
I was guessing he either bought them all up on clearance or did a 10pk on eBay if that color has worked well.
I have at least that many Mepps with a gold or silver blade and the natural brown skirt. In size #2 alone, I know I have a bunch.
I know Strike King also sells kits of crank baits, I have seen a "Sexy Shad" one that comes with a couple of each style and size all in the same color. Pic related.

They catch everything.
I haven't been using them as much for bass anymore, at least in the daytime. If only the Mayans are biting, they work well. And I run them in my snakehead spot a bit and still get bass sometimes.
It is still one of the go-to lures for a new lake or when absolutely nothing is biting. I do way better on inlines than regular spinners. Better hook-up rate when theh do bite as well.

I rarely see decent stuff on the CL, it's lots of pawn shop ads that want basically retail for old used shit, and then a ton of old ass stuff, a ton of cheap shit that nigs bought their kids for Christmas and want to sell for too much, and a couple really expensive boat reels.
There was somebody asking like $120 for a Symetre and somethig else (Penn Battle or something) and they were both on decent Shimano rods. I should've hopped on that.
>>774398
https://newlondon.craigslist.org/spo/5556486735.html prices on some shit are pretty decent, not great but im considering picking up the diawa and the 6 6 st croi
>>774399
I would be more interested in the rods than the reels. Lost of $100 rods, which are nice, but I think most of those reels are fairly cheap, especially for baitcasters.
Those Skeet Reese rods are supposed to be really nice if they catch your eye.
>>774398
>Tfw i got a symetre for $40 with braid spooled from craiglist
I did get fucked over on a sahara that was broken though. I only lost $30 on it. Maybe I can get another sahara later on and use the spare parts
>>774403
What is busted on it?
I posted that website earlier, eReplacementParts. Lots of those little bits are <$5 so it might be worth fixing it if you pull up the schematics and get the part number.
>>774402
i probabbly wont get anything , i set up a fluke rod from my grandpas shit actually if anything catches your eye tell me, il buy it and send it to you for shipping costs plyus $5-10
>>774406
I'm straight, I'm sure I can find deals if I look hard enough on the Miami CL. I'm still not sure what I want to do next anyway. And I like to play around with stuff and get the right sizes and all that before buying anything.
>>774392
Wow congrats you caught one halfway decent size bass in addition to countless dinks in fucking florida. I better go blow my paycheck on little inline spinners because the tripfag said so.
alright im curious How many rods do you guys use, and what for? Im making a list myself of rods, reels, line, and uses,
>>774410
Kek, you can go as crazy as you want. I still don't get the difference between all of these different jigging rods and frog rods. I mean I understand the action and weight but it becomes too much unless you are trying to make a living off of catching the fish.
As far as just the bass fishing, I think I have a nice balance between 4 different 6'6" rods. 3 are medium weight, the Vendetta has pretty fast action, the CarbonLite is even faster, and the Fenwick Eagle has a little bit of give to it. And then there is the MH Graphite Series which is nice for ripping through weeds. Anything with slower action than the Fenwick, I'm not a big fan of. The Vendetta is pretty well rounded, I feel like I could use that for anything.
Those Berkley Shock rods feel great too, but that one is a 6'.
And all different braid strengths but the Okuma is that flouro-braid.
>>774409
>so salty
But I highly reccommend stocking up on Mepps. GOAT lures.
>>774405
during a turn, if there is pressure on the reel, it will get "stuck" at one specific point of the turn. If I apply force, it will break lose, but will get stuck again at the same spot. Most likely, one part of the turning mechanism is bent/deformed and allowed the reel to get stuck like that.
I opened it up trying to fix it. However, i made it worse as I didn't put it back together right and now it won't turn at all. One day, when I'm not busy, I might open it again to see what is wrong. I might take it to shimano even because there is a shimano base like 30 min from where I live so I might go if I happen to be in the area. Last time I got some wonky shimano stuff from craiglist, they offered me a new one for half of the price so I didn't end up losing money. I just don't feel like spending much money on the reel if it is alreafy fucked and I might not be able to fix it myself at all.
>>774132
Holy shit that's awesome
This 14 dollar fly has action like a 30 dollar hard bait
>>774246
I'm falling in love with my memecaster too for frogging but I'm thinking about putting #40 or #50 braid on it; a big bass broke me off in The weeds yesterday and I was so pissed off. It took all I had not to snap my rod over my lnee
>>774415
Sounds like a gear is deformed and fucking up the bite
Before you buy anything get a triangular needle file and look at each gear And clean them up as necessary. Just be nice and slow no need to rush anything
>>774420
yea, one day, I will open it up and try again. Messing with the inside of a spinning reel feel like doing a surgery. It was a good learning experience at least
Lost my favorite Yo Zuri silver minnow yesterday, so naturally I ordered a bunch of lures on eBay for the first time. Very good deals on there. Not so much on Yo Zuris but on everything else
>>774414

>>774426
i think i have pretty much all bases covered, i have a light surf casting rod coming in the mail so that base is covered too
dammit, had a few of these last night and tossed them back. Didn't realize what good cut bait they are.
>>774398
>decent stuff on the CL
Missed out on a salt fly rod from CL. Dude said he had it, I asked when meet, no response. Hit him next day, no response, next day, finally get a sold.
Reel was like 350 new.
Rod was like 200 new
wanted 100
When I looked up reel, the company warranteed them for life as far as I could tell.
a rare CL gem

>>774435
probably totally worth the $20, untangle the mess and you get 2 reels, and a handfull of lures, pluss a sweet bucket
Anyone has experience with those Field and Stream tech spec rods from Dick's. They look decent and seem reasonably price?
Also, for those anon who got the Skeet pro spinning reels, how are they so far? Do you think they can handle a bit of saltwater? Good deal for $60 spent on it?
>>774422
Oh if a spinning reel is tough for you don't even think of opening a meme caster
Can I paddle a canoe with a kayak paddle? How would a canoe be for fishing on my own? There is one on sale near me for 50 bucks
>>774441
yes but you will look like a retard and i will judge you, , i need to get myself a canoe, paddiling streight may be a pain for you with only one person and its a bit heay to transport from water to car, or in your case motorcycle , but go for it
>>774441
I think it would be easier to paddle a canoe with a yak paddle than the other way around.
Both are do-able though.
When alone in a canoe I was taught to kneel. Personally I find canoes wobbly
>>774438
such a sweet bucket.
I'd rather do this one though
https://capecod.craigslist.org/spo/5599948353.html
Well worth $25
>>774438
Looks like a bunch of literal garbage
>>774444
Checked
>>774442
>>774443
Okay let's say I buy a canoe paddle
I'm mostly worried: is 43 horse enough to pull the damned thing? My bike has no problem screaming the engine and I know where peak power is. Its plenty for two up but would the can or be too much?
Would fishing from a kayak be hard? Like would the thing try to tip over constantly? I could always make an outrigger or two but would they/it impede fishing too much
>>774450
I love fishing from my yak
My back is shit from years of water skiing crashes and it's the one place I'm 100% pain free.
>>774450
fishing from a canoe is easy just dont be a dumbass an keep your center of gravity low, ive only ever once fell out a canoe once and i was like 12 being a little shit,
>>774450
oh. and I've never trailered from my bike. I've never seen anything more than one of those luggage trailers.
>>774455
youll bde fine acelerating but account for double the stopping distance,
>>774414
>I still don't get the difference between all of these different jigging rods and frog rods.
I'm convinced half of the rods made for certain things are just gimmicks
>>774453
Meant to say canoe* ideally I'd get a yak but all I can find for less than 300 on cl is those shitty little white water yaks
>>774450
Fishing from a yak isn't hard, but I'd take half a day to just paddle around and make sure you won't flip. It can take a little but to get used to.
>>774471
I definitely understand having different rods set up for different things, but I mean the rods/lines specifically marketed for certain uses mostly seem gimmicky to me. Maybe I'm just cynical.
>>774473
Canoe* I've kayaked before but never been in a canoe
>>774473
>take half a day to just paddle around and make sure you won't flip
Sure, if you have a shitty yak or are a fat fuck/any combination of the two.
I WANT TO FUCK A FISH
>>774480
Canoe
I'm trying to talk about a canoe but I'm accidentally saying kayak sometimes. But I am fat.
>>774491
kneel then/ lower center of gravity will help, or sit on the floor in the middle
>>774480
Or if you're uncoordinated or not used to being on the water. I've seen a couple people hop in yaks on completely still water and manage to flip.
>>774489
Go catch a carp and balls deep oral you'll have fun
>>774494
i couldnt een immagine flippng my kayak, i occationally go from standing to sitting and that is the only time ive ever had issue
>>774495
CARP ARE NOT CUTE
>>774501
Do you want cute or fuckable? Either way you're in the wrong thread for this. This is more /b/
>>774503
BOTH
>>774502
may be costly, id prefer a kayak over canoe, dicks was having that sale, tcheck tat out
>>774099
They're pretty good eating
Only good fish is an eaten fish
Is fly fishing worth it? Seems like a lot of fun but also pretty expensive.
>>774507
>Implying I can afford more than 50 dollars cash
It would be easier if you wanna take some things off my hands
Wanna buy a Penn peer 309 and 209, a Penn long beach 60, a daiwa sealine x40 sha, a daiwa opus 5000 bri, an okuma avenger, an ugly stick trolling rod 8' 1 piece, and a daiwa beefstick spinning 10 foot?
Or maybe a crossbow? What about a tree stand? I'm trying to sell some schitt
>>774528
maye the beefstick afer i get my job if bub buys my Bristol built
>>774524
It's worth it
Buy a Cabellas three forks and prestige plus combo; it's great for the money. And don't buy tippits tie your own
Start with 20 pound test and work your way down to 2-6 pound test mono and you'll be set. I recommend buying wooly buggers as your first flies; they're hard to fish wrong. Run them as streamers in still water and swing or dead drift them in rivers.
>>774529
Slap the opus 5k on there and you've got a good combo
Maybe a little heavy to be holding all day but you can drag in near anything. Put some heavy ass braid on there and you could catch plenty. I'd not hesitate to surf cast for sharks up to 8 feet if I spooled it with #65 braid
>>774534
>daiwa opus 5000 bri
if bbub buys my bristol built and i sell some more of my shit them maybe i just bought an 8 footer for hucking lures
>>774524
Behold the power of a #10 white beadhead wooly bugger fished as a streamer
>>774532
Comes out to $160 CAD total. I can get an ECHO solo for 150 with backing and tippet included so i think I will just cop that. Do you feel you catch more with the fly rod or is it just a change of pace from the normal spin casting?
>>774510
>keeping schoolies
just wow
>>774541
They taste better really toasty fried.
2am, got my coffee and gear together and about to head out.
>>774561
For catfish?
>>774524
Yes.
But don't listen to Skid.
>>774510
WTF, is there no legal size where you are? Those are babbies.
>>774561
i fall asleep at 2 am usually
>>774734
What time do you work?
>>774743
im a neet for another month
Had some great luck with Crappie this weekend. Caught this weird golden one, I'm having it mounted. In all the years I have been fishing I have never caught or seen one with this color.
>>774752
>weird golden one
memories... My home town used to stock golden trout and if you caught one you got like $50 which was like a million $ back then.
>>774758
yeah and? I got real lucky with this one.
>>774763
my state used to stok them too, though they were the start of a disease chain in the hatcheries so they discontinued that stocking program, i got a tiny one a few winters ago ice fishing
>>774255
>good detox centers
Probably next to a Bass Pro and overlooking a lake
>>774163
So last night I toss a bucktail with a sot eel a few times. Leave in truck....
Just open truck, hits me like low tide on a summer's day. See the seaweed in the bucktail.
FML that shit stinks.
>>774776
Kek, like the bars that will give you a free drink for an AA medallion.
>>774768
>>774752
Check out this bass my girlfriend caught. She got mounted after that one.
I don't get it every time I Go fishing and I just let my hook sit there the fish ends up swallowing the hook and I cant get it out. I usually use a Texas rig with plastic worms. Is there a way to keep the fish from swallowing the hook so I can catch and release?
>>774258
Use your heaviest bass rod or lightest cat rod
>>774516
>Keeping a canoe straight by yourself will be the hard part.
That's why I was asking about a kayak paddle for my canoe
>>774806
Set the hook on time
going fishing for the first time, super hype,
spent all day wrapping liver packs, so much anticipation.
I have faith in my friends to show me a good time, Lake Erie here i come!
>>774836
I went fishing my first time 2 weeks ago and I got addicted fast. Friends make or break the experience, it's hard for me to imagine going without one of my pals although sometimes I think about going out myself so I can brag about getting a large fish all by myself.
>>774836
I'm sure you will
Where do you live? North western pa? Northeastern ohio? North central ohio? North western ohio? Michigan, in which case I must remind you that Michigan state sucks
>>774850
>tfw always fish alone, in freshwater atleast,
>only people to fish with are 12 year old cousin, 65, and 83 year old fiishing buddys ( mostly ice fishing) or 50 something year old family friend
>tfw no one my age
>tfw no qt to fish with
>>774853
I'd fish with you
>>774857
atleast youremy age, and atleast somewhat know what youre doing, Not necessrily wht i woud consider a qt, but oh well, Think im going to try to get out tonight and fish a small pond and creek, in hopes of bass in the pons, and bullhead and dace/fallfish in the creek
>>774851
I'm the BETAcuck Geaugabro who was too scared to fish with you
>>774874
Oh
Just come fishing, what's the worst that could happen?
