i would expect to get mid 40s with a 4 stroke, but i was hoping for at least 30mpg. theres a ton of jetting notes in the owner's manual i got, so i think someone has worked out the carb pretty well. it starts with one or two kicks and runs well so i dont think its just dumping gas unnecessarily. i havent checked the gearing it has yet.

>>
>>14958973
No I think the lack of chicken strips says nothing about a rider.
>>
>>14958910
i dont think it is running particularly rich, at least more than a 2 stroke should. the 300 EXC are well known for being uneconomical and this motor is even bigger. between gearing, mixed traffic/offroad use, and the fudge factor of not having an odometer (i know generally how much ground i covered though) i might be able to improve to 25 mpg but its horrible mileage regardless

and theres also the fact that 5 gallons of premix costs $12.50 in gasoline and $13.47 of Bel-Ray H1R, meaning its not twice but 4 times as expensive to run as your 4 stroke.
>>
>>14958973
He's being sassy you fucki-fhktewagbxz!(7$fukbv
>>
>>14958998
But rebuilds will be cheaper for you because you wouldn't have to replace valves, valve seats, cam chain and all that other shit in your head.

Also that seems ridiculously expensive for 2-stroke oil. For 5 gallons you should be mixing less than 1/5 a quart of oil. Are you paying $67/quart?
>>
>>14959021
I just paid dealer price for the small bottle they stocked. I can get it down to $17/qt by ordering online.

And yes, a top end job will come in under $250, and a rod kit is like 300. There's definitely a savings there.

Yes I figured this would be the source of such bullshit, 2nd hand knowledge.

Perhaps you should actually ride both, the current zx-6r (2013+) is easily the most comfortable 600 I've ever been on.

BMW's 652cc single and their 798cc parallel twin are good engines, they're mostly free from prolific issues though the water pump on their single is known to die eventually. I haven't heard much bad about their little scoots with parallels either.

They had some issues with their touring bikes, though I forget if it was with the 1170cc i4 or 1649cc i6. A bunch of issues were just addressed in the last model year.
The 999cc beast in the S1000RR has some semi frequent issues too, to be fair here I don't know of any 200bhp high compression bike engine thats made to be a reliable daily driver.

BMW's line up is basically hit or miss. They're either solid as a rock or full on Ducati meme in terms of reliability. If you have a consumer reports subscription($30 for a year) its worth reading through their brand reliability report. Caveat is that its a survey taken from consumer reports subscribers.

>The only way I can think of to "abuse" those bikes would bet to constantly bounce rev limiter and never perform maintenance.

A bike is more than just an engine. As the other anon said the transmission of the s1000rr (and bmws in general) are pretty shitty and if you check the forums these problems usually happened to people that used low milage bikes on track. I guess that full-throttle shifting isn't good for the transmission (something you do while short highway pulls)

Did he supply documented proof? You can call triumph usa and have them run your vin, if your bike has a recall your local dealer will replace it for free.
>>

Yea, he's a friend if mine but he was pretty obsessive about stuff like that, I got every oil change receipt, every recall receipt. The dude even give me every magazine review from when the bike was new.

much slower actually, some 600's can be brought down into high 10's (10.9 etc.) like the zx-6r.

Stock they put down about average 600 cc bike power but they weigh a good 100kg+ more.

Your typical V-Rod is around a high 11 second bike. Which is reasonably fast for a cruiser.
The Destroyer you're talking about however, was barely competitive against a standard 1000 super bike. And we're talking about something fitted with wheelie bars and an air shifter.

I used to think carbs were evil black boxes were problems came from, but after cleaning mine and studying them I'm actually very happy with them.

I'm currently troubleshooting a problem with the air intake system (I'll try a solenoid delete tomorrow) that I'm almost sure is related to some old cracked air intake hoses being too loose.

Anyhow during my googling I stumbled upon some pretty horrifying EFI problems on the newer CBRs, from fried sensors to bikes running too rich when hot and fouling plugs, to all sorts of expensive electronic things involved.

I must confess I felt happy and smug about my primitive fuel delivery system :^)

ECU and general fuel injector fuckery problems are definitely a reality, but I wouldn't call them frequent. The downside is that they're much harder to deal with as apposed to carbs which can be adjusted readily.

>suicide shift
Protip, suicide shift refers to spring loaded foot clutches, not hand shift. Because if you started falling to the left at a stop light you would have to take your foot off to balance it, then the clutch would engage and you'd jump into the intersection and die. That bike appears to have the clutch on the shifter.
