My friend and one time bandmate convinced me to get an MXR Fullbore Metal pedal. He was raving about it
Well, I got it but my shitty amp is a Line 6 Spider IV that I have because I live in a small apartment, can't be too loud
The pedal sounds like absolute dog shit played through that amp, so now I feel like I wasted 100 bucks on the pedal
>>
This is why I lurk the rondo new items page. This image will serve me well for the rest of my life.
>>
>>66058148
Every pedal is going to sound like dogshit through that amp, friend.
>>
>>66058205
By the way, they're asking for comments. Be sure to tell Kurt how successful this product will be and that he should order as many of these as he can afford a loan for. He will surely sell them all and not go bankrupt.

>>
>>66058205
>>66058294
how do you not see this is a terrible idea ?
>>
>>66058148
lower the level of the pedal, modeling amps sometimes expect only a guitar level signal. A boost might fuck it up.
>>
>>66058335
It's not a terrible idea because I hate rondo music with a passion for stealing fender and Gibson's designs. Fuck rondo, the Chinese are communists and we should not give them business.
>>
>>66058392
It is a terrible idea, the fan looks way too extreme and uncomfortable, and the LP body is the opposite of ergonomic.
It's like adding salt and pepper in your milkshake and wondering why it's fucked.
>>
I just got a used GCB-95 for free. Hasn't been touched since the 90s, doesn't do anything to the sound whatsoever.
Could it be because there's no battery in it? Could it need electronic parts cleaner? Resoldering maybe?
I'll investigate but I guess someone here had to deal with a similar case before.
>>
>>66058489
>>
>>66058519
Take pics of the inside and confirm you have the right adapter, then I might be able to help. Verbal troubleshooting is too tedious.
>>
>>66058591
I'm just saying how it is, that guitar is shit.
And there's no real point to a fan on a 6 string guitar if you're tuning to standard.
>>
>>66058655
Let me spell it out for you. It is a good idea to give positive feedback because the product will clearly fail, which is a good thing because rondo music is cancer and should not exist. Only companies that fender and gibson license should be able to make fender and gibson style guitars.

1. we flood kurt with requests "from retailers" who will buy at least 10 guitars
2. kurt orders 2000 horrible guitars
3. kurt is unable to sell any of them
4. eventual bankruptcy and suicide
5. no more poorfags shitting on my les paul
>>
>>66058815
who gives a shit about your lespaul
that guitar's just shit and there's no more to it
there's thousands of shitty guitars and there's better things to do, like practicing
>>
>>66058876
No matter how much you practice your shitty Chinese guitar will not sound as good as my Gibson.

For 3 PU LPs, isn't the switching something like
Rhythm - Neck
Mid - Neck/ Middle
Treble - Bridge
Why not just switch to a six way switch/ Why don't they come standard? It's such a waste of potential.

im getting a used (bought 2012) fender strat mexican standard in arctic white with maple neck. love that setup visually. it's stock besides a zero fret saddle. does anyone know anythign about that? apparently those things are there to make open chords sound better because now every string is touching a metal fret.
>>
>>66059405
Well, it works how it looks. Can be kinda hard to set up but if your intonation on the first 4 frets is good you're good to go. I like them.
>>
>>66059363
Yeah I'll do it myself, just wanted to check if someone had the magic trick for this very common pedal.
>>
>>66059460

>not adding /fa/ to that list

You should be ashamed for wanting that instrument. You should be ashamed for like le edgy metal in the first place.
>>
>>66059601
That image of the /fa/ meetup always gives me a giggle.

I dress better than that, and I wear pyjamas to work.
>>
>>66059565
If there's glue, you can take it out by rubbing the zero fret with a soldering iron, just be careful not to slip.
Looking at the picture yes it should be possible to remove it.

>>66059568
From what I've heard, 808X are okay, kinda bland but they work fine.
I wish there were more non-metal themed 8 strings.
>>
>>66059565
Yeah, they're easy to remove. I don't recommend it though, it's a pretty desirable mod. There shouldn't be an visible damage. Worse case the back of the nut slot was filed a bit, which won't affect intonation and will work just fine with even a clumsy shim, but would be visible. Like I said though, this shouldn't be the case.

The difficult part of replacing the nut is cutting down the nut slots, but it's not too hard if you have the right tools and feeler gauges.
>>
>>66059568

Strandbergs come with the EMG X series, which are much more versatile, and almost strat-y in their sound.

My last demo with my partner is finished, exporting it now. The Tonal Recall is amazing and it was a really nice way of wrapping up things but it's time now to move on to something of my own now.

Anyway, I'm close of finishing my pedalboard but I'm still missing a chorus and or/a reverb. Had my eyes on the Strymon Flint but they're hard to come across to here in Brazil without paying a lot.

Now I saw that Boss is about to release the CE-2W Waza Craft chorus with a built-in CE-1 circuit and it has really been tempting me. All the samples I heard were amazing and I already love the JC-120 Chorus but I'm afraid it might be too much hype due to the collector rarity of the original CE-2 and maybe not that amazing. Anyone followed any of that?

I want to make a super old school Charvel.

Question is what year should I go for? 79-80, 81, or 82?

79-80 has more slightly expensive hardware and a fancier 21 fret neck, 81 is slightly cheaper, 82 is an 81 with 22 frets (basically the MIA So-Cals).

i had a shitty epiphone lp std for like 3 years. finally sold that piece of shit and got a fender strat mexican std. i dont even know why i wanted a lp in the first place, i guess buckethead makes it sound alright, but the epiphone stock pickups are so muddy and just are not tight like the ones in the real gibson thing. plus it was really uncomfortable playing it, the setup was horrible. i've come to hate that guitar over the years, so much so that i sometimes prefered to play on the shitty no name chinease copy strat that costs less than 100 bucks new. atleast the setup was okay on that one and it had that singlecoil sound, even though a really shitty one.
if you plan on keeping it get two high end pickups for like 100bucks each, or atleast get one. if the ones in that are anywhere close to the epiphone lp std ones then they are shitty as fuck

Buckethead's an absolute monster at guitar and plays the equivalent of a custom shop, 27" scale lenght LP. Of course you can't make a 24.75" epiphone sound like him.
That's like buying a Steinberger and wondering why you aren't suddently Allan Holdsworth
>>
>>66063917
Well I mean, I DO have to get all my shit out of storage by next week anyways, so I guess I'll start then.

I do have a few concerns though. One, this guitar has been through like 5 different moves. I don't even know if it survived or works. And the second being that my pinky is kind of weird in the sense that I don't have very fluid motion in it. Like, when I extend it or retract it it's always popping forward or back. I don't know, it's hard to explain unless I record my hand. Basically, not very fluid movement. Is that something that just works itself out as I use the muscles?

>>66064058
I actually have an acoustic, but see above. Both instruments have been through several moves and I haven't checked on them in ages.

I was on that site as well, it said go electric based on my musical tastes in the FAQ.

Starting on acoustic is a silly meme. Half of the people say you ought to learn on acoustic first because it's easier thanks to needing less precision, the other half saying start because you have to learn the hard way.

Honestly I think it's mostly just because people like the idea of hard work paying off, doing the the right way not the fun way, etc.

Personally I think you ought to start on whichever you want. We're talking about learning, having fun is going to make you learn quicker.

I approve this post. Saying that you have to start in acoustic is like saying you first need to learn to drive a carriage before learning to drive a car. In fact, it produces detrimental habits like pressing too hard on the frets.
>>
>>66064979
Pressing too hard on the frets isn't as bad as muting absolutely fucking nothing. Especially if you play distorted. Holy shit I want to punch people who do this

you can probably get a used mexican standard strat for like 350 if you like strats. the mim ones have the best pricepoint when it comes to fender strats. you could get better pickups for another 200-300 bucks but honestly the stock ones are good enough to be used professionally and its more of a preference thing i think, a lot of people really like the stock ones.

but generally speaking most guitars in this pricerange will, unless you buy a used one which would be out of your range if bought new, have subpar pick ups. and pickups make up most of your sound. just put good ones in, its the most efficient way of making a guitar sound good.

After years of stagnating on electric, spending a year playing acoustic exclusively did wonders for my playing. Not because acoustic is harder or easier, but because it encourages simpler styles that exercise the fundamentals and doesn't hide your mistakes.

>In fact, it produces detrimental habits like pressing too hard on the frets.

That's horseshit. It doesn't even make sense. "Too hard" is relative to fret size, which varies from guitar to guitar. Unless all of your guitars have the exact same fretwire then you're going to have to adapt when you switch between them anyway.
>>
>>66064870
i was the one saying start acoustic and i did not do that myself and think it was a mistake. im not saying stick to it until you master it, but i started electric for example so i didnt pick up fingerstyle and started learning to play songs with powerchords and riffs and stuff and only later got around to the "basics" so to speak, open chords etc. i feel like i wasted time in the beginning.
>>
>>66065047
I'm not that familiar with the various models, besides, aren't those expensive?
>>
>>66063814

I have. It was my first time playing an 8 string guitar, so it took me a while to get used to, but the playability on it was insane. Had no problem with the fanned frets. The one I played had Lace pickups, which I wasn't a big fan of, to be honest. But that might have been the fault of the shitty amp the guitar store guy put me through.

I'll hopefully get one towards the end of the year, after I sell my seven string. I'll probably stick with the EMGs, maybe switch them out for some Fishmans down the line.

the difference in pressure due to fret size is negligible compared to the difference caused by the difference in action

I think variety helps. I don't think how hard you press it dependant on fret size. The issue with pressing too hard is throwing your intonation off. Lighter strings will need a lighter touch because they bend easier.

Anyways, playing electric makes you a better acoustic player too.

Also playing guitar for a year can help :^)

My parents live near Edinburgh, so when I visit them, I like to check out the Guitarguitar there. As far as I know, it's the only place in the UK that has them.
>>

You can still get lower action with them, low enough that it doesn't make much of a fucking difference when you pick up an electric.
>>
>>66065266
I started on acoustic. I don't regret it but I don't think it helped me particularly. It certainly slowed me down from the beginning since it's harder on your newbie hands. The music I wanted to play was very difficult to play on my acoustic with poor action for more than an hour at a time.

I guess the thing I most benefited from was learning the value of stretching.

most guitar pickups are actually too hot for it so it clipps. turning down guitar volume will cut treble so its a bad work around and using the line input instead of instrument is even worse as its a low impedance jack and a guitar is high impedance unless you're using active pickups. the end result will be shitty as fuck because treble will be cut and some other frequencies, its just really bad. the only legit work around on the scarlett solo and 2i2 is getting a di box to transform your signal to be good to go into a line input. but a cheap di box could possibly also fuck up your signal a bit its its a cheap shitty one. 2i4 is your best bet because it has a pad button which fixes the clipping problem. if you're cheap get the solo (its the same as the 2i2 only less jacks so less expensive) and try it out, if you get clipping get a di box to fix it.

cheap acoustics are shit compared to electrics of the same price range tho. a $99 squier strat will be way better in terms of play-ability than a $99 acoustic. one of the first guitars i got was a $99 squier strat. still have it, plays fine. my 6 year old daughter plays it. got a $100 acoustic a few years ago, because i didn't have any acoustic guitars at the time. definitely harder to play, and i know how to set up guitars. ask my 6 year old why she doesn't play the acoustic... it hurts her fingers. also she likes to make inane noise with the whammy bar.

I have two 2i4s I constantly use but even with high output (13k) humbuckers I've never had it to clip and never had to use the pad.

With 8k humbuckers I have the gain usually around noon. A long way from even close to clipping. With my 5k strat pickups I actually have the gain around 2 o'clock most of the time.

Don't know why so many people say the 2i2 is terrible. They must be using some pretty crazy high output active pickups.

>>
>>66069117

I see what you're saying, but the difference in material of the neck in an Affinity versus a Warmoth is definitely not something to be ignored. Especially if it's a rosewood board.
>>
>>66069308
>m-muh tonewoods!
>>
>>66069308
Shit rosewood is just fine. A flimsy piece of maple is not good, but I think you have to judge each neck on its own. Warmoth definitely makes quality necks but most guitar companies(not part companies) will have a lot of variance. Bottom line is of you have neck whip, you need a replacement, and if you don't have neck whip, don't replace your neck.

>>
>>66069762

Man, I repaired guitars for a few years for a small time store. I saw a million Affinity necks bend up for next to no reason. They're just not good. It's not a secret.

Secondly, I didn't even mention tonewoods. I mentioned Rosewood fretboards. Aka, not the veneer shit that comes on Affinities that warps like crazy.

Chill with your hostility.
>>
>>66069692
There is no way to tell if a neck will warp in the future. No matter how much you spend on a neck or how much work you put into it, assuming the two necks have equal performance today, there's no way to know which will survive the longest.

That said, that's only if they have the same design. You cab expect a neck to last longer, if not forever, if it's book matched, and 3-piece necks with perpendicular grains can last longer as well. They have a lower risk of unbalanced wood.

But a $100 neck won't necessarily last, unfortunately. If you know of any $100 necks that aren't just standard one piece or skunk stripe necks, I want in on that too.

Also, there's some question of whether perpendicular to the strings in a one piece is better than parallel, but I don't know the answer.
>>
>>66069860
nigger please, that's bullshit. More affinities warp because more people treat them like shit and don't oil the fretboard.
>>
>>66069876

All I'm saying is that a Warmoth neck tends to be better than an Affinity. I don't see why there's such push-back on this.

>>66069942

>>
>>66069942
oiling the fretboard does nothing to change strength, in fact, dampening it might actually make it worse

Just got here but a singlecoil is a pickup that only has a single copper coil wrapped around the magnetic poles. Pickups with two sets of singlecoils (one wound reverse to the other) are humbuckers.

A P90 is a singlecoil pickup. It also goes both ways, a singlecoil can be a P90, though that are several other varieties of singlecoils, just as there are several varieties of humbuckers.
