When did you realize superstrats were the logically advancement to guitars?
>24 frets for added range
>upper cutaway for easy access to higher frets
>thinner necks for easier playing
I have more money then God and still play and record out of a cheap solid state amp. These threads are worse then any online guitar forum. You people pretend to have money and love only the best. Worthless is what you are.
>>66046016
Cool story, bro.
>>66046016
you should buy an amp with some valves. Really improve your tone.
Are there any guitarforums that aren't swarmed by metal fags? Where my acoustic bros at?
>>66045817
Should I get a new classical or an electric guitar? I have approx $500 (AUD)
>>66045817
What would you go for in a custom built guitar or bass in terms of neck? I despise high floss finish because of the stickiness, but I'm not sure if I should order it unfinished or with a satin/matte finish.
>>66046473
high gloss*
>>66046399
Electric. If you have one already, get one that's vastly different. More diversity = more creative influence
>>66045817
Picked up one of these Yamaha Bass guitars 2 months ago now for $350AUD, as a starter bass.
I was playing a borrowed fairly low-quality Monterey, so low quality the head was actually screwed on to the neck, with a very noticeable join, The neck is warped to the point the strings are almost 6ml out on the higher frets, making it completely unslappable and genuinely difficult to play.
It might just be this one old guitar, but as it stands i'm not going anywhere near monterey starter guitars ever again.
And i've got to say, the TRBX174 is an amazing quality product for its price.
Easily competes with $500-$700 products.
Great build, great finish and it plays like a dream.
Played a TRBX 304 in store and it had noticeably higher quality pickups, again great quality mid-range guitar that can compete with higher end stuff.
I've had no problems playing Muse Faith No More or slapping along to Red Hot Chilli Peppers songs, and a good mate of mine who has been playing bass for many more years than I, who has a whopping $3000+ bass guitar said it's definitely one of the better guitars she's played, and it well worth it's comparably reasonable price tag.
>>66046473
satin for sure. Especially if you hate the gloss stickiness. If you get it unfinished, you can try to treat/finish with oils and shit, but it requires some upkeep.
>>66046526
Yeah, that's what I thought as well. But I always hear about people sanding down the neck and leaving it unfinished, I don't think I'd be comfortable with that. Satin finish seems to be the best of both worlds, love it on my instruments that have it (on the body as well as the neck).
>>66046526
gun stock oil barely requires any upkeep, only if you get it really fucking sweaty and hot then literally just run some steel wool over it and throw on another coat of oil. that's like maybe one time for the rest of your life.
>>66046579
look into gun stock oil
seriously it's fucking delightful to the touch. satin finishes always turn to low quality, uneven gloss over time. gun stock oil is #1 for real. only costs like $6
>>66046512
I have a TRBX 174 as well, not familiar with aussie prices but that seems expensive. Anyway, it's alright for the price, but let's be honest, the pickups are pretty bad and the neck (at least on my one) is way too thick. And the bidge is a piece of shit, but it stays in tune and can be adjusted properly.
>>66046287
Sadly there's none.
General population does not have any appreciation for real music.
>>66046481
Alright, thanks. Any recommendations for electric guitars in that price range?
>tfw guitar center's 4th of july sale is terrible
what semi-acoustic would you guys recommend? I'm looking at the Gibson ES series, open to any suggestion regardless of brand etc
>>66047121
Hagstom Viking if you're looking for fairly cheap.
>>66047142
price isn't an issue
Where's my /morning crew/?
Selling the Jag today, might use the cash to hit up a Tribute G&L ASAT Special on Craigslist. Got a new band starting up and want another T-style for my backup slash alternate tunings.
Has anyone else noticed the sudden influx of Girls to lazy to learn the guitar so they picked up a ukulele and became a singer/songwriter overnight?
>>66046016
>Bragging about purposely having bad gear.
Having lots of cash doesn't validate what you choose to buy with it, dipshit.
>>66047121
Do you mean semi-hollow?
The ES series is really great. Look into the Midtown Custom and see if you can find one without the Richlite fretboard. The handful I've played in my life were a dream, and I'm mostly a Tele guy.
>>66046287
I mainly play acoustics. That's all I have on me atm.
>>66047236
Yeah semi-hollow, however the term semi-acoustic can also be used I'm pretty sure. I'm looking at the 355 but they seem quite hard to find, 335 ES is also a possibility or even a Grestch White Falcon
>>66047195
guitar is hardly more difficult
>>66047341
this post confirms you've never played a guitar before
>>66047349
And your first post confirms you're a loser in the social department
>>66047403
why? just because i pointed out show stupid your post was doesn't reflect anything on how I am socially. Sounds like you're projecting matey
>>66047403
shut the fuck up
>>66045866
I don't mind having less than 24 but I can't see why you wouldn't pick a superstrat cutaway and thin neck.
The only issue's looks. Some look really gaudy, but I'd take that over an unplayable pretty guitar.
>>66046016
I'm poor as shit and I can see the circlejerk here but that doesn't mean I'm a douchebag about it, if you want to improve the thread, talk about actual theory and technique instead of meta garbage.
>>66047195
Whatever, there's always going to be a bunch of attraction whores having more success than you while being worse.
I was thinking about buying my first acoustic guitar (been playing electric for 1 year now) and my teacher, who works at a music store, told me about a Tanglewood Crossroads TWCR they just received. It's 160€, and he says that's a great deal for the money.
Does anyone know about this brand and this specific model? I know nothing about acoustic guitars so I'm not sure if that's a fair price or if the guitar's good at all.
>>66047403
I wasn't even the poster you originally replied to kek

Can anyone identify the black session man in this? I love his sound and want more of him.

so i played around with it and decided to use the vibro champ as my amp and the twin as my cabinet, 2 8ohms in parallel.
i rescued this poor little amp from my school a few years ago, it hadn't been used for many years because they thought it's trash.

You nailed the tone and vibe, sounds just like John. Well done
>>66046399
Depends on what you play i would recommend you get a electric because you can play a lot of different things.
What's your ideal pedal board, /gg/? How much progress have you made?

I've only got the Mastotron so far but at least the Ring Thing seems to be really unpopular and goes for reasonable used.

The Telecaster that is
I've never seen a finish like that for a Tele and with a p90
>>66048456
I know it's the best way but I can't really get high gain/fuzz from my Blues Jr but love the amp otherwise.
https://clyp.it/sscotoyp this sounds like garbage but i just woke up and have no idea what im doing
>>66048496
with the money you would spend on new pedals sell your old amp and keep the pedal money to buy a new amp
>>66047450
How are you unable to see why someone would prefer a thicker neck? Neck shape is an extremely subjective thing while the superstrat cutaway is objectively better for everyone.
>>66048478
probably just a rosewood tele that someone stuck a p90 in you could do it your self.
>>66048496
Experiment with different amps. But don't make the mistake of buying a huge amp for a big sound, especially with valve amps. You will never drive a 60w valve amp enough to get a true overdriven tone out of it. Valves need to be driven to unload their full potential. Buy a decent valve amp with the lowest wattage you can find. Don't think lower wattage means it won't be loud enough, there are 15w valve amps that could be gigged and you'd still be left with head room. I know it might seem like I have a valve up my arse right now but trust me, fuck digital, fuck transistor, a solid state valve amp is the only way to go if you want to hear the truest possible tones of the instrument.
>>66048307
i can't use pedals because my legs don't work
the ideal would by one i control with something other than my foot
>>66048640
Sounds like you need bigger tubes honestly.
when I turn my bassman 100 up to ten/ mix the 2 chanels togeather there is a tearing sound coming from the speakers, the speakers are 400 watts total and its a 100 watt amp so I guess it could be clipping, im not really sure how clipping work, any idea whats up?
>>66047190
Get a Mustang your life will be infinitely better, never been a fan of G&L in terms of a substitute for a Fender, because they're really not, but they're a solid guitar no doubt.
>>66048680
Also i'm trying to go for an overdriven tone, is there no way of doing this without damaging my speakers? or do i have to somehow find some 50W bass 10s?
>>66048679
I'm not saying valve amps sound like shit if they aren't being driven hard, but valves are like diesel engines -they love to be worked, and they produce much better tone the harder you work them. This is pretty common knowledge tbqh family.
>>66048745
I'm just being an ass. I agree for the most part. Obvious exceptions are some high gain amplifiers that are primarily preamp gain.
>>66048496
Buy a fuzz pedal of your choice or a boost, maybe an overdrive, anything that will boost the signal of your guitar and push the tubes harder to make them break up
>>66048396
>based Angus tone
also I find the guys from KISS are pure plug in to the amp and play types too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg2fRBXhB6Q
>>66048396
but Angus uses a "pedal", anon :^)
Quick question, can i plug an electric-acoustic guitar into any kind of amp, or do I need a special amp for acoustics?
>>66047662

>>66048650
Have you ever considered that Ibanez RG that has a Kaoss pad built into it?
>>66048799
My Mastotron is on the way so hopefully that'll give me a lot of options.
>>66048947
Any amp, but acoustic amps are obviously more suited for a straight acoustic sound
What's the cheapest way to get a half decent amp for practice? (besides stealing ofc)
>>66048983

>>66049034
I got a Pignose for $35. Probably my favorite small amp.
>>66047502
Haven't heard of the brand but try it out and try out other guitars for a similar price. Then evaluate what you think is right for you.
>>66049035
that was the idea 8-)

>>66047502
I'm looking at some YouTube videos of it and I'm considering buying one too. It looks great, is built to last and has a pretty cool sound. For that price, I think it's worth it.
>>66049034
Vox do a mini practice amp that runs on either mains or battery for not much money and it is hands down the best practice amp I've ever owned. I also have a Laney VC30 212 and an old Peavey Bandit 65 and the Vox is my most used amp.
Roland do the Micro Cube which is a little cheaper but the sound on the Vox is fucking phenomenal for its size.
>>66048548
There's a certain point of thickness after which you lose much more control over your fingers when anchoring your thumb on the back of the neck, I'm not saying every neck should be paper thin but thick necks are horrible and un-ergonomic
>>66048680
>the speakers are 400 watts total and its a 100 watt amp so I guess it could be clipping
that's not how it works
just put on new strings and wiped down the fretboard. feels good tbqh
>>66048496
do you have the tweed blues jr?
>>66049034
Cheap SS combo (Vox Pathfinder 15, Fender Frontman 15/25, old Laneys and Peaveys) into a homemade cabinet - 2x10, 1x12, 2x8, etc. If you're DIY as fuck, you can convert the combo you're running into a (very portable) head.
>>66049288
Nope, plain black MIA original model front the 90s/early 2000s.
Has anyone here got Rocksmith 2014 working without the cable?
I'm trying to use my usb audio interface but every time even with no cable patches it's saying cable not detected
>>66049358
nice m8. i dont have the money for either but the tweed sounded nice on a youtube comparison
whats the term for the opposite of brightness?
>>66049419

ffs
>>66049374
I have tried and I don't think usb interface will work, even with the patch. I use my regular line-in (make sure to go to properties and switch to DVD quality and make it the default, and only active input) and it works well with the patch
>>66049435
>>66046765
Fender modern player telecaster plus or thinline. The plus is like a mix of every Fender guitar since it has a Tele pickup in the neck, Strat middle, and a humbucker in the bridge with a built-in coil split. The thinline is basically set up like an LP.
>>66049475
so you're saying that it won't have the cable is not detected issue with just a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm adapter?
>>66049137
mastery is a huge waste of money compared to other replacement bridges
>>66049034
Either get a cheap SS combo like a Roland Cube that or buy a Night Train and ghetto-rig a cab together.
>>66049538
yes I bought one for a dollar or whatever and use the patch. you may have to mess around with properties as i said before but it works for me. make sure it is the default input, dvd qual, and turn up the input volume
>>66049588
did you change anything in the rocksmith ini settings?
and which version of the game and which patch you used?
So I just bought one of these (vox vt20x) for 130 bucks off ebay. Anyone else have experience with them?
How's this sound? I think I get close to the sound on the record but would like outside perspective. I messed up one of the hammer-ons in the second part moving up the fretboad but otherwise pretty happy
vocaroo.com/i/s1zaZpTUAKLA
>>66049620
didnt have to change ini settings. 2014, not sure exact version but i updated it recently and it still works. patch is called Rocksmith_nocable
hey, guys, need some help...
I'm trying to get that 70's P-bass through an overdriven Ampeg punk sound like The Clash's Paul Simonon
I know I need one of those Tech 21's VT series pedal. Should I get the regular stomp box, the deluxe or the DI?
also is there anything else I would need? I got a 500 dollar budget.
recommend me an affordable but gigable amp. i will most likely but whatever you recommend
>>66046287
A bit late, but reporting in with acoustic!
>>66048713
I'm not really looking for a substitute for a Fender. I prefer most T-style guitars to NOT be Fender, in fact. There are a lot of local guys that can handmake one for the price of an MIA Standard and the results are almost always better. My picture above was a Bob Logan custom.
I prefer G&L's to Fenders, too. Those oversize MFD's sound sweet.
As far as the Mustang, offsets always come and go in phases for me. Ultimately I just have tele fingers and I feel cramped on the short scale.

I have a thing for small Vox amps. I used to have a Valvtronix 15 (silver grill) and still own a Pathfinder 15r. They sound incredible for the price. One thing you may want to consider is upgrading the speaker down the line. Vox Bulldogs are great for cleans but can fizz out a little when pushed with a lot of gain.

How are you selling your Jag? Locally or online?
>>66049840
Haha I probably came across as a Fender rep there, but I understand that about the short scale, I have relatively long fingers and a friend of mine who who has bucket head tier fingers and swoons for a mustang and he usually plays esp, bc rich, jackson etc and if you can get a handmade custom for the equiv price then why not
How do you fare with gibson (24.75 I think?) scale guitars?
>>66050404
It's not terrible for a budget rig, the warmer hollow body sounds nice through a blues jr if he's playing blues or jazz.
>>66050387
I'd say stick with a humbucker, but maybe put one in with magnetic pole pieces if you can find it, and add a coil split option. That'll give you a true single coil tone. If you aren't able to find one, you can just put two single coils in there.
A nice newish strat tone is gfs trucoils, which are basically seymour duncan noiseless stacks. Noiseless stacks sound sooo good, man. Better than single coil for my money.

I don't think it's to do with finger length more than I learned on Strats and fell into Teles. It's more that I'm just used to it.

>>66050512
Single coil size JB and 59s aren't stacked. Also, why would someone switch from a humbucker route to a single coil rout only to put a single coil sized humbucker in? This seems really pointless.
>>66050504
Yeah I learned on squier strats because they were always to be had for cheap, I hadn't even heard of other Fender models apart from the typical 2, strat & tele but I was in a store just looking and ended up walking out with the Mustang as soon as I played it I knew its what I wanted in a main guitar.
Do you like a thicker neck? I like my Mustang necks because they're quite slim and flat, my LP is much the same maybe a bit more depth because of the thicker fretboard.
I was looking at getting a Ritchie Kotzen Tele but man that thing has a baseball neck, which I thick is not the case with most tele's.
>>66050582
Ah my bad, not too savy on SC sized HBs.
For tonality, they're generally perceived as not as hot as their HB counterpart.
>>66050596
Yeah, generally the thicker the better in terms of Fender-esque necks.
52' Tele and 68' Strat are my favorite profiles, with a 57' V as a close third.
>>66050504
How did you sell it so fast? Are you selling it at a bargain? I'm trying to sell one of my guitars too but I haven't even gotten an offer since I posted it two weeks ago

Sounds like a vox could be a better choice, but blue junior ought to work good too. Something HSS might be a good idea, the middle position single coil is seemingly utilized.
If you want to save on a fender amp there's a lot of clones out there, they still are outnumbered by fenders so just make sure you look u unknown amps you see on craigslist. Blues junior is kinda pricy for what you get.

Where did I say it wasn't? The ukulele is gay as hell, but if you're just trying to be a hipster girl memer playing chords being a singer songwriter, guitar isn't much harder.
Unless of course you are retarded
do you have names for your guitars? mine are named after my ex girlfriends, but i want to buy another guitar and can't because i've only had 2 girlfriends and can't get another one

Several months ago I bought an American Fender Telecaster on credit for two reasons. One was because I really wanted it, and two was to build up my credit and increase my credit score.
The thing is I've kind of gotten tired of it and wished I had gotten an Ibanez like I also wanted. Now I'm still making payments on it
Or I should have just gotten a better amp

It seems like I'm the only one in this thread who plays ukulele and guitar, so I think I should throw in on the difficulty thing. Ukulele is an easier rhythm instrument for playing lots of chords and voicings with ease. That said guitar is a more capable instrument in a lot of ways, which does include most melody. You find yourself pushing the limits of ukulele a lot sooner than pushing the limits of guitar when you play more complex music.
In this way ukulele can be more difficult than guitar for some things. Basically both guitar and ukulele are easier than each other for doing the things they are specialized for. Ukulele is easier at a beginner level though, and honestly quicker to master if you are using it as it's meant to be used than guitar as well.
By the way, the insane ease of playing pretty much any chord on ukulele makes it a great instrument for rhythm, nothing ever sounds forced on it. Fun instrument and honestly the size is a plus.

Tips on getting guitars and gear for cheap?
>>66051400
Different color pickups at least tips me off that they might be different magnets or such. It definitely soothes my crippling autism. 'Course this all reserved to internet judgementalism, I'm not really that concerned with what other people prefer otherwise. But I don't really hesitate to express my tonal ideals otherwise. The middle position of two of the same pickup is so boring. Covers the tonal territory of a middle position, but different pickups do that just as well without getting boring.
Hell, the middle position on a stock LP is just not that good unless you're using it with effects that respond well to a more even tone.
>>66051679
Sexual favors.
>>66051704
>>66051679
check craigslist daily of you're serious about it. Also, the best thing you can do is actually buy cheaper and possibly lower quality stuff if you learn how to maintain it. Stuff like amps, this is generally a bad idea, but cheaper guitars can be found that will last you the long haul, and of course some pedals exist for that as well.
Avoiding popular brands that are able to charge a bit more for the recognition can help a lot but that's more of a personal thing.
>>66051693
I'd agree with you completely, however.... if the pups have coil splits then having it in the middle with only one of the two pups split / tapped makes for some interesting sounds.
Thats why I fell in love with my epi hollowbody, can go from PHAT gibson tones to really spanky noises reminiscent of a strat I once had.

if you're in murrica go to pawn shops or garage sales (an anon that used to post here claims he got a rick 4003 for $20 at a garage sale, though it was in pretty bad shape), look in local craigslist for deals, sometimes ebay auctions can end pretty low as well.

Where are my fellow bass players at? I'm looking into buying a used mexican fender p bass on craigslist for $300 so I can slap a fretless jazz neck on it. Would it be advisable to just buy a fretless instead?
>>66052503
of course, if you get too busy on your own you're probably not gonna get in a relationship anyway
>>66051446
great place to start faggot.
I play guitar but my mates need a bass player and I've got an old one lying around, how much of a difference is it?
>>66052563
It's the same thing but with less strings and those less strings are thicker and spaced further apart
Bass is just a simpler guitar and anyone that says otherwise is just a butthurt bassist
>>66052590
Well, yeah, it's built as a simpler guitar, but if you don't understand the role the bass plays in music you're going to be stuck sounding like Sid Vicious
>>66052563
I used to be a bass fag and its the same shit and will teach you the basics when you play a guitar.
>>66052526
Well, if you're gonna be swapping necks, just buy the cheapest thing you can find and swap the pickups as well. Should bring you well under $300, and there's more than enough cheap p-bass clones around for you to find one with a finish you like.
If you happen to find a neck for a good price then that'll be the way to go. Hard to say if just buying a fretless would be cheaper, certainly from fender it wouldn't be since they treat that like some exclusive limited option. Are you particularly after fender stuff in terms of brand? Or just neck profile? Or, not even that but you just happen to have that neck available?
>>66052563
easier to play, for sure
however coming up with basslines is hard and being a good bassist can feel a little unrewarding if you're the kind of guy to care
>>66052367
>wasting time on a waifu instead of playing even more
>>66052666
That's just the simplest solution to acquiring a better-than-entry level fretless I could find, seeing as I'm fairly certain fender necks are interchangeable. It's not necessarily a matter of cheap to me right now, I obviously don't want to shell out a few grand but I'm not looking for an cheap entry-level fret-less.
>>66052526
Go for it, just don't forget that pbasses are pretty farty on their own
building/modifying stuff is fun
>>66052563
bass is easier to play but sometimes feels a little less satisfying because people tend to focus on guitarists/vocalists
Its fun but unless you're playing heavy prog stuff, normies will mostly ignore you
>>66052590
>anyone that says otherwise is just a butthurt bassist
I didn't realize all bassists were butthurt, but I guess they must be since all bassists do say otherwise.

What the fuck
>Myth Number Two: String buzzing is corrected with truss rod adjustment.
>Fact: Much of the time, strings buzz because the frets are not level. Many factory brands do not dress frets on new guitars, and they ship guitars out with relief (bow) added to the neck to avoid string buzz and customer complaints. If a neck has back bow due to excessive tightness of the truss rod, then loosening the rod may correct the buzzing and should be done regardless because back bow is never a good thing. If the neck is flat and the action at the 12th fret is correct, there should be no string buzz. If there is, a fret dress is called for.
Is this true? I bought a used strat off eBay and it buzzes like crazy. Should I just return it or take it for a setup? Have I been duped?
>>66052858
Guitars are rarely if ever set up from factory these days. It's just become one of those things guitar manufacturers expect you to fix yourself when you buy the guitar.
So yes, you probably need a setup.
>>66052858
take it to a good guitar tech for a setup
if you don't know one, ask around.
>>66052858
I've seen this before, It kinda bugs me. Level frets and proper setup are both factors. However frets that aren't level isn't necessarily something that qualifies as a actually returnable mistake, it can just be considered a lower quality instrument. Anyway the only way to know if your guitar needs to be replaced or leveled is to actually try to set it up in the first place. If it buzzes on every fret, it's your setup.
>>66052858
Mine was set up great until I decided I wanted to change the string gauge it was set up to, and adjust the action.
Since then I fucked it up and get pretty bad string buzz in certain spots.
I'd fix it myself but don't have all the tools, and my local guitar store is an hour drive away, and I'd have to drop off my guitar and wait a week for it to be ready, and then do the 2 hour round trip back to get it.
Fuck this shit.
>>66052925
>>66052908
Alright, I'm just not exactly sure what he'd do to fix the buzzing. The neck looks perfectly straight to me.
>>66052367
Good advice, bra. I have a tulpa wife. Best part of my life.
>>66052929
According to the seller, the guitar was in mint condition and had just had a setup. Granted, it came from Texas. Intonation seems to be spot on. However, it rattles when hitting open strings and whenever I fret on the upper frets.
I spent like $800 on this thing and kind of just want to return it if I have to pay another $175 to get the frets leveled
>>66052944
get an allen wrench set and a screwdriver, it's stuff you'll keep until you die so you can't really consider it a waste of money. make sure you get metric and imperial, and don't get the folding kind, you need the rigjt angle to use them on headstock-adjusted truss rods.
So, from the research I've done into theory and scales and modes and all that stuff, it sounds like you basically have to learn the notes on the fretboard.
You can't really progress and get anywhere until you know what all the notes are and where they are.
Would you say this is right and I should get busy learning them?
Would you guys recommend a Yamaha pacifica or Ibanez GRG guitar for a beginner ?
I heard that Fender squire's are bad/not worth the money.
Lastly, I'm willing to spend $500 on a good electric guitar with an amplifier.
>>66053115
get a good tube amp and save up more for a classic vibe strat/tele/. amp is ultimately more important
>>66053115
I owned a squire for a long time when I was starting out. Honestly, they're fine. Exactly the kind of value I would expect from a guitar under 200 bucks. You can spend the remaining 300 on a solid amp.
