Yeah, you plug your guitar into the fuzz you want to evaluate and play it. Then decide for yourself if you like how it sounds or not.

This is such a stupid fucking question. You're actually asking for "rules to go by" when buying gear online that you've never tried. Ok, here's you're answer: move out of the middle of buttfuck nowhere if playing guitar is something you want to seriously pursue and this will be less of a problem. That or get a part time job so you can afford the return shipping on fuzz pedals you want to try out.
>>
>>65703824
Germanium is affected by temperature. So, I kinda like digital versions of it, since they always sound like a fuzz face on its best day. Particularly, I think the FZ-5 sounds better than the real thing.
>>
Long and mcquade has had my guitar for 5 days now to setup.

I get that they gave hundreds to go through, but goddammit this sucks
>>
>>65700639
I love old gibson acoustics but any one from that era with the adjustable bridge like yours is pretty shit.
>>
>>65703824
Yeah, dude, listen to this moron >>65704038.

I'm sure he's tried out and owned many germanium fuzz pedals and speaks from a wealth of experience. That's why he makes a point of mentioning "germanium is affected by temperature" and then goes on to suggest a Boss modeling pedal, because he definitely knows what he's talking about.
>>
I don't understand how in the hell I'm not able to figure out strum patterns for acoustic guitar. I can change from chord to chord easily and remember a ton of them, but my right hand is giving me trouble. There's probably something that I'm doing wrong. Anyone got any videos or tips or something?

so how do you guys order your distortion pedals in your chain? do you ever gain stack them together?
>>
Hey can anyone here play stairway to heaven? On the first bar how do you play the 4th note?
>>
>>65704176
you might be gripping your pick too hard, you might be tensing something up on your arm/wrist and screwing it up, and/or you might be strumming the strings at a weird angle

just sit in front of a tv, mute the strings with your left hand, and just practice the strumming motion trying to make it fluid. the feeling should mostly be coming from your wrist and your arm. the higher you hold the guitar on your body, the more likely you will be strumming with your arm, it's just natural to do that. so be aware of that. the feeling should NOT be coming from your shoulder area.

Try to get good at chords, qhats some beginning songs i should play? Any genre
>>
>>65705070
I sure do, before, after, every which way. The most convenient to not accidentally drive something way too hard is to simply run your distortions in order from mildest to most extreme. Messing with this is fun, though. There's plenty of overdrives you can treat sorta like an amp. Chorus, fuzz, whatever, it'll take it all.
>>
>>65705323
i kind of have them mixed up. it goes guitar-fuzz-overdrive-distortion-amp

for some reason i just like stacking the fuzz and overdrive together in that order, the other way around and it gets too uncontrollable. it gives this nice fuzzy undertone to the overdrive. the distortion i just use by itself because it doesn't really need a boost.
>>
>>65705073
No, we can't.
>>
>>65705217
You should try to get into a guitar store and try both, or at least things that are very similar. Personally, I've never found a P Bass that I've enjoyed playing and I like having 24 frets, so I would pick up the Ibanez, but you might have a different opinion.

If you absolutely can't get into a store, the Ibanez would probably be able to make a more wide range of sounds, especially because a P Bass really only can make one sound.

My buddy's project V is coming along very nicely. He just got it back yesterday from an autoshop that he paid to clear coat it. Said he was up until 2:30 AM last night throwing parts at it and wiring in the electronics. He sent me a picture this morning, looks stellar, very much inspired by Albert King's 'Lucy' V. All it needs now is a set of strings and a good setup. I'll have the final pictures by the end of the weekend, stoked.
>>

Ibanez doesn't cover "cracking or other damage to the finish". Gear Tree refused to take it back because Ibanez told them they wouldn't accept it.

It has been a hell of a process, several fuck ups, redos, and short cuts along the way. First time he tried clear coating it was in his backyard with some cheap spray on shit (pic related). It didn't settle well at all and thinned out in a couple of spots so he ended up paying an autoshop $250 to do it. The binding is a bit over sanded in a couple of spots, took about 3 tries to get the pickguard (cut from solid wood) and input jack plate (also wood) sized properly. Milling the body for binding surprisingly worked perfectly first try but getting the binding to settle properly on the guitar was a bit of an exercise. All of that being said it has been a damn good learning experience and besides a few minor blemishes here and there it's going to be a very unique and high quality guitar when it's finished.
>>
>>65704176
I used to have trouble with them when I was less experienced, to the point where I needed somebody to break the strum pattern for me to get it. Eventually when you play enough you'll just start getting it on your own.

Has anybody here played any Fernandez' electrics? I'm eyeing them for a budget guitar with that infinite sustain technology and Les Paul-type thickness. Some of their guitars are very Les Paul-ish. Specifically eyeing the Montrey Deluxe Tremolo, never played a tremolo before and want to get into that game.

How do you generally decide on what to practice? I keep noodling around practicing speed excercises for my tremolo picking and walking around the neck, try to train my ear by learning songs by ear and try to write stuff. Should I go and learn some scales if I only know a few?

It all varies on your style of play they have their pros and cons
Strat SC will be clear and harmonious and if you raise it up it begins to get dirty a bit and gives it a nice crash to the chords.
The SG Humbuckers do the dirty sound better especially with amp gain and pedals but the clean sounds a bit flat and balanced good for jazz. You can get the best of both with a P90 equipped SG or a Coil split HSS or HH Strat

>>
>>65709937
No it doesn't, it means terveiset which is "regards" in Finnish.
It means "regards (name)", basically calling whoever you're quoting (name) by signing their post for them.

Transistors are semiconductors. They were initially made from Germanium before we realised Silicon was a much better SC. Germanium and Silicon transistors, as expected, sound very different.

Transistors can be used as analogue amplifiers. As such, they have a 'gain' or hfe; this is NOT the same thing as the amount of distortion they produce. Earlier (and Germanium) transistors generally have lower and more variable hfes. This hfe varies between transistors and with temperature; warm rooms, or even touching them will change their hfe. Earlier (and Germanium) transistors also have a tendency to be leaky, effectively giving falsely high hfe readings.

'Matched' and 'unmatched' just refer to whether or not the transistors were deliberately chosen for having just the right hfe. Some believe that specific hfes sound best in fuzz face-type circuits.

Wikipedia: "new old stock (NOS) ... refers to obsolete equipment, or original parts (components) for obsolete equipment, that have never been sold at retail."

It's a good tactic, jokes aside.
If you ask something people will just call you a retard and ask you to google it. If you state something wrong they'll correct you. ez

How is this for only a year of playing guitar? I made this song last week, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Pretend I don't mess up here and there

sick senpai

The upper register sections timbre doesn't fit but otherwise it's quite good. I like the relative major shift there, it's just a little off-putting, so I think the bass part needs to grow or change there.
>>
>>65712614
Boring. You might as well be playing an accordion.
>>
>>65712614
did you forget that you were playing a guitar instead of a piano?
>>
>>65712614
I'm not gonna put you down, you've clearly put effort in what you like to do, and besides, it sounded nice. I just don't get why would you do tap only when it's your 1st year of playing guitar.

It intrigues me, in general, why can't people stop using instruments in their unintended ways. If it was original or unique yes, but tapping is just turning a guitar into a worse piano (again, unless you're doing something really crazy and unconventional). If you want bass and treble parts playing simultaneously on a single instrument, why not pick up piano? It isn't a harder instrument, contrary to popular belief. In fact, I've played both instruments in front of considerable amounts of people and I genuinely think that guitar is a noticeably harder instrument to play on amateur to upper intermediate levels (you need more precise hand coordination, learning theory is hell compared to piano, where it's all laid out on a keyboard, etc.).

But again. This post isn't for you, >>65712614. Keep up the good work and get better. It just reminded me of something I wanted to get off of my chest.

>>

Would love to have a Strandberg 8-string.
>>
why is ultimateguitar always wrong even on their highly rated tabs
>>
>>65714109
because the 'tab community' lacks musicianship. the people who need them are the same who make them, and needing them means they can't use their ears. every half competent player grows out of tab after a few years

it sucks for new players, but that's the reality
>>
>>65714361
a lot of people using tabs are singers (like me) who don't take guitar that seriously. I see your point though
>>
>>65714361
This is mostly true. I've been playing for several years and still use tabs as a loose guide or just a starting point when I'm learning a new song. Especially lately, I've ended up taking bits and pieces from several different versions of the same tab as well as incorporating my own interpretations until I feel like I've gotten it mostly right.
