shiet son I just asked this in the other thread. Aight lemme put it here:

>When you guys finger pick, do you rest your pinky a lot on the pick guard? Is that considered bad form or nah? I do it but I'm self-taught so I suck and don't know if that's a cringe thing to do
>>
>>65476276

Yeah I do that. I only use 4 fingers anyway, and anchoring gives me some sort of stability. I don't do it when I use a pick though.

Yeah I do. I definitely take advantage of the brim on the tele bridge plate.

It's not bad form, don't worry about that. Just do whats comfortable
>>
>>65476314
That's bad form imo, sometimes you'll want to play 5 note chords and that technique will limit you.
>>
>>65476314
I do, but then again I think I fingerpick wrong because I only use my index and thumb and I see everyone else use all their fingers. I got used to it before I knew how to properly finger pick I guess

>>65476377

Anchoring doesn't mean you have to stay anchored all the time. I rest my picky there and take it off to pluck 5 strings or strum. I still use my pinky often but it's nice to have a reference position when you don't need to use it, especially if you're playing while standing up.

Would I be crazy to put a p90 bridge pickup in my strat? I don't mind the bridge sound from it right now but I've never been 100% partial to it either. I do like the sound of p90s though, especially when overdriven and distorted. I was thinking of using a Kent Armstrong Stealth 90 specifically

Hard to say. It shouldn't cost much to get fixed. It's an old design and everything on the board is huge and easy to spot.

Were you running it off batteries or a powerpack? Gotta remember to run 12V AC in and not 9V DC.

Can't say if it would or not, not something I know enough about. Why would you run it at 9V though? There's a lot of tricks to making the pedal sound better. Don't run everything at ten like people on forums like to say.

>>65476994
HM-2 take 12V AC in (the old BOSS ACA adapter) then it steps down to 9V DC internally. A lot of people mod them to bypass that so it'll take 9V DC in. The other way around it is to daisy chain it off of something.

A lot of old BOSS pedals use 12V AC instead of 9V DC. Just gotta check the underside.

>Sorry to sound like a tard, but how so?
This is how I run mine. Power goes into the KORG Pitchblack then using the out it goes into the HM-2 (as 9V DC). My understanding is the common ground bypasses the stepdown circuit in the HM-2 and you get full power from 9V that way.

Make sure not to have a battery in there at the same time though.

Using a standard daisy chain cable would be exactly the same but I use the small connector to connector to avoid masses of wiring.

We use GT1600FX at the moment for msot stuff although I use the poweramp from a DSL50 a lot as well.

I lost a lot of control in my left hand after a brain hemorrhage last year. Pretty much all I've been working at since.

>how do you record your shit? just curious
Depends on what I'm doing. This might be a bit long winded but I'll try and answer it the best I can.

Most of my noodling stuff will just be AxeFX out via USB to my PC. I put my IR (ASEM V30) in the OP ages ago, although I run it in stereo on the AxeFX now you can get a similar sort of feel with dual mono in NadIR or LeCab.

For bigger sounding recordings I'll tend to run the output to a tube poweramp and mic up the cabinet. Used to just use an SM57 for that, but I tend to run two now (one on axis, one at a 45 degree angle) and an SM7 on another cone.

Everything fast is dual tracked, slow is quad tracked.

You can hear the difference between miking and IR pretty well on these videos. First is direct via USB, second is miked up.

It gets fairly polarizing reactions. People seem to love it or hate it. Silverburst isn't terribly common in Australia which is a nice tidbit as well.

I'm hoping the guitar I've got on the way will play as well as it does.

The jump from soloing/melodies over the key of the song to using modes, not like modes that part of the major, but divergent modes from "modes"/notes in the chosen scale of the key, is quite complicated and I'm not sure I get it.

I'm in E minor, just doing my thing in E minor.
And then I have a bridge in the loop which is basically just strumming C major.
Now, for E minor I know that C is lydian, but that'd just mean that I'd stay in E aeolian without changing anything other than theoretically the root of the mode.
So since it's a C major which I'm strumming, it's easy to use C ionian.
But that's a simple example for a simple loop.

I was just learning Pull The Plug (Death), the other day, and while it's in D minor, he does this thing at the start where he plays something that's a bit dissonant, not part of the D aeolian modes, then goes full to D minor BUT also not quite because he uses a D# for a bit in there... and then goes to his fifth and starts soloing over A harmonic minor while riffing in it too, simple stuff.

Anyway I guess the questions are:
What the fuck is he doing at the start and with that D#? was that just "punk" from his part in doing whatever riff sounded cool disregarding the D minor scale, or is there a bridge in theory I'm missing which "allows" him to do that in the scale.
And unrelated to the song, are there signatures/common resolutions for modes between chords? Say, a mode part of they major/minor key will obviously fit, and "a major/minor" mode of a mode so to speak, will obviously fit the mode in use before coming back to the main key. But the "others" like Locrian, Dorian, Lydian, etc. are a bit more complicated and don't always fit the current chord voicing and the context of the main key. Do you simply adhere to the clues of the chord? like if there's a 7th or 9th or something? but at that point you can simply extend the chord over the whole instrument for it to be a scale and play it, which doesn't feel "dynamic" so to speak.

>>
>>65479056
I think the issue's there regardless. I don't mind the fact that my filter is working extra well, I just want people to post the OP without a name.
>>
>>65479081
If it sounds dissonant, that's a pretty good queue. I'm guessing he was disregarding theory and playing what he wanted.
>>
>>65478790
Can you post a pic?
>>
>>65476125

Last thread there was a question about speeding up the ditto looper and you can, if you have the 1/2 speed on at the same time as you loop something it speeds it up 2x
>>
>>65479190
Is there a theory to the dissonance, as in... is there a way to chose certain dissonant intervals with known "tension and release" within the key? or it's just all "fuck it I'm penderecky and it sounds cool".
I'm asking because I wrote a riff which also contains dissonance, not theory based, I just did it and it sounded cool in my head, but I have trouble coming up with a resolution to the riff or going into another key/mode and so I don't want to use it if the change is going to be sloppy.
>>
>>65479244
I asked. What I really want though is something that allows me to control the speed of the loops with a knob, not just a double speed or half speed setting
>>
>>65479357
That all depends on the speed you play during the loop, there's not a specific speed control
>>

A good guitarist friend of mine told me to care more about the musicality rather than the theory or follow the norm. I guess that there's where ear training comes into play, where you can tell that this or that works in the progression because it sounds good rather than it fits the rule or scale.
Sorry if the advice sounds shitty, I'm very theory limited and barely knows the basics. Working on getting better at the moment.
>>
When I'm playing and I let off the string after playing a note sometimes the string rings out and it sounds really ugly. maybe the action is just too high on my piece of shit acoustic and I have to use too much pressure or is it something else
>>
>>65479669
I've been playing "by ear" for around 10 years or so, barely knew only blues, major and minor scales. I can play quite well and I receive praise when I'm jamming with others.
Within my "experience field" I'm cool, I know what sounds and feels good and people like it.
BUT I feel incredibly limited creatively (when I'm writing alone). I want to understand the theory behind it because I think it will allow me to first understand it so then I can "break" it and be as creative as possible.
When writing I feel like when I come up with something nice, I'd like to expand it and complete it, but I feel frustrated because it becomes a "trial and error" kind of thing sometimes (hitting a wall) which takes time, and also because I feel I always end up playing the same thing, and I'm tired of always "doing my thing".

>>65479792
Even if the action is high it shouldn't ring too much if you let go properly, you're probably ringing the string by pulling your finger while letting it go.
If the action is too high then doing chords or simply fretting a note would be painful and annoying, if that's the case then fix the action.
If the neck has no truss rod either change to lighter gauge strings, and/or check the saddle height.

I feel you are going through the right path then. It's going to take a while, the guys I Know that are capable of doing that have many years of experience and know their theory inside out. Still you can always feel like they have a safe zone where they fall into when theres a need for a creative break or space. I would think that the comfort zone just evolves to be more musically rich as you evolve rather than completely going away.

Anyways, enough pointless rambling, best of luck mate.

So I play a lot of surf rock and garage rock. I'm looking for an amp that could do both either separately and most importantly simultaneously. Right now I've been looking at Fenders Deluxe Reverb, Bassman 59 Reissue, Hot Rod Deville, or a SuperSonic. Is also prefer something loud as low as 40w to 60w. Can anyone suggest any alternatives? My budget is under $1,000 but I'd prefer $500-800 used is fine too as long as the amps are reliable

What theory is actually practical? I've been self taught for about 2 1/2 years now but I've been studying a bit of theory and feel it's finally time to get a guitar teacher. Is this a good decision?
>>
>>65477582
If you're that new, try pink Floyd or tom petty. Literally the most basic chords and strumming patterns but fun to play along with for a beginner.
>>
>>65480246
>all regions

Still not 100% after 10 years. I have a few positions of the neck that I mostly rely on and can generally figure out other places when needed without flubbing notes too much
>>
What do you guys like to focus on when you injure a finger? I sprained the index finger of my fret hand recently and can't play with that it at all, so I've mostly just been going through scales while it heals.
>>
>>65480323
If you learn best from the human interaction, sure. Just try n shop around for a good teacher though. Some are just guitarist that lead a class with no real skill at teaching.

Personally though, just hit up the internet first. How I learned everythign, and while I'm no professional musician by any means, I can write a song with chord progressions in key, solo over it, and know what I'm doing.

Fretjam's articles were very helpful to me, can try starting there

Buy a capo, learn C, F, G and Am or D, C, G and Em. You can play like every Song with these chords.

Because it's the same thing and just two different ways of notation. In the first each beat can be divided in three so you get that 2+1 rhythm thing going on, watch how it says exactly the same thing on top of the second example
>>
>>65481034
It's hard to say what's easy without knowing your skill level. If you're looking for "campfire songs", I'd recommend going to the song section on justinguitar. There's probably a hundred to choose from on there and it's all divided up by difficulty stages.

With notes, start by remembering a few of them, the most important ones. The one's one the 5th fret are the easiest to memorize, then you have to 7-8-10 pattern on the E and A strings with B-C-D and E-F-G and then you have the opposite of that pattern on the D and G with 7-9-10 instead with A-B-C and D-E-F

Then just keep going with the rest of the wholetones, no point learning the semi's since you can figure those out by just knowing which note it's next too.

Also m8 ur a bassist who cares about scales just plunk root's

Your point? I'm active in /gg/ threads.

After just a single listen?
>>
>>65484749
>>65484766
Yes, you're active, that's the problem, you're making this thread shitty just like every tripfag that ever was in /gg/
Also please put in some more effort when samefagging, having two posts perfectly timed one minute after each other makes it really obvious.

>They are cheap and Idgaf about what's on my feet. I'm not a woman.

>>65484695
>I got a warning for making a post about how I don't believe Neutral Milk Hotels in the aeroplane over the sea is all its cracked up to be after a start to end listen
Same reaction.
>>
>>65484695
ITAOTS isn't really all it's cracked up to be, but it is a great album either way. Getting a warning for that is autistic as fuck though.
>>
>>65484897
No it's not, from the perspective of this board, it's just shitposting because even if it's not one of the greatest albums ever, posting that here in /mu/ will just trigger more shitposting and stupid discussion, like it could happen right now.
So more than "stop being a pleb" I'm sure the warning is more about not using bait and shitposting.
>>
>>65484844
Here's some advice: stop giving so much of a fuck about a trip for gods sake

There you go. The thread is 10x less shitty
>>
>>65484844
Are you also implying if I didn't post with a trip the thread would somehow be better? People who get autistic over a name confuse me
>>
>>65484936
Or you could stop craving attention so much that you can't resist using a trip.
>>
>>65484936
I'd take that advice to heart if I was (you).
Trips have a purpose when you are sharing something or want to verify its the same poster but everywhere else they just trigger autists
There are some excellent anons that are recognizable for their help and style writing, no need to use a trip for validation.
>>
Essential listens for a post-punk bassist who needs to fill in a lot of space? I'm not that short on inspiration these days, but I definitely need to expand my toolbox.
>>
>>65484998
I use the trip to avoid samefagging confusion. That is all.
All you faggots are giving me the attention by endlessly talking about the name. I actually contribute to this thread when I'm not drowning in troll attempts just because I use the name. And here you are making that 10 percent slowly rise.
>>
>>65485070
Not him but gotta admit your posts are pretty low quality. I don't filter but I don't enjoy seeing your posts
>>
>>65485070
>I use the trip to avoid samefagging confusion
Funny how this simply isn't a problem for anyone else. The fact that you feel the need to use a name when starting a thread shows that you're attention whoring, fucking stop.
>>
Just shut up guys, you're taking posting too seriously.

>>65485037
Bass in general? well basically everything from every genre has something interesting.
For post-punk? like at the drive in and fugazi kind of stuff? King Crimson, Pink Floyd, EL&P, Yes, Rush, etc. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, some pop stuff like Billy Idol, Blondie, The Cars, etc.
Now, depending on your thing you might want to add some funk, some motown, some death metal... whatever that's missing for you and you want to bring some of "that" to your music.
Hard to say since post punk encompasses a lot of styles.
>>
>>65485126
Nah I'm good bro stay salt tho lol

It's amusing to see all this autistic reactions for something so insignificant, so if anything, shame on you for getting this wound up.

>>65485125
My b then. But if I may ask, what's so low quality?
>>
>>65485126
And again, I did not start this thread.
>>
>>65485181
And shame on you for attention whoring and shitposting just as much through needing to defend your tripfaggotry. See how this works both ways?
>>
>>65484767
>>65484852
>>65484897
>>65484935
I could understand if I made a bait post, but it was a legitimate discussion on the acclaim that it has received up until this point no just by /mu/ but by critics as well and how and why its maintained its status, so if /mu/ is too autistic to handle a civil conversation about something they enjoy and point out its positives and discuss it then that's not my fault, a warning from a mod was pure Grade A(utism)
>>
>>65485181
Well look at it this way, a trip is generally used by either an attention seeker or someone who actually needs to identify themselves (like when lauren faust visited, or deadmau5, or some of the trips who manage stuff on lolg). When you use one only for opinions and not for posting original content you can easily skim over your posts and see your trip, a comment and have no reason to reply.
