How essential is a tuner pedal?

Is rolling down your guitar volume and turning on the snark clip on tuner not good enough? Or do people think it's embarrassing to use on stage?

The Jag definitely, it has more useful sounds for me. Plus the offset body is just awesome, it sits real nice. I love the short scale length of both of them.

The Mustang is a Japanese Model and the pickups can really scream on it, pity they are hard to keep in tune though.

Yeah for sure, I just play them quite hard so it's inevitable that they will go out of tune a bit. The Jag can't take a lot of string bending which is a shame, which is why I have it set hard tail.

Mustangbros, which hardshell case would you recommend? I'm still using the Fender soft case that came with it, I'm looking for something with more protection. I heard the "official" Fender ones aren't that good.

HH, Piezo bridge.
1 volume, 1 tone with coil split, 3-way toggle.

If I really really wanted to be versatile, HSH, Piezo bridge. 1 volume, 1 tone (no split necessary), 5-way toggle. Or HSS Strat with the Elite wiring.
>>
>>65468457
Nah, you can't get those woody archtop sounds out of a solidbody. the controllable feedback in semi-hollows is also pretty unique.. You can get close but not quite. A low output PAF pickup can get you cleans that are just as jangly as a single coil imo.

I don't even bother with Single Coils any more, way too noisy.
>>

You can mix and match brands, it's no problem.
Although you need to know what kind of sound you are after to choose which pickups.
Some are designed to work in an specific position (Neck are usually for Neck and Middle, and Bridge... you know) but there are no rules, Andy Timmons uses Cruiser bridge pickups on Neck and Middle positions.
Generally Bridge pickups have higher output than neck.

It depends. From what I've heard, vintage strats had identical pups for bridge mid and neck while more recent models have a different impedance depending on their position. That and the mid pup has inverted phase for noise cancellation.

You can and should install the pickups yourself. It's very easy. It's not something that requires previous experience with... anything to do. You don't have to put 3 of the same pickups in. One policy people like to follow, is to put the most powerful pickup in the bridge, and progressively weaker pickups towards the neck. Vintage sets are all equal, so it's no necessity.

I highly recommend putting pickups of different styles and/or magnets in each position to maximize the versatility of the instrument.

I had 2 peavy combos with decent reverbs built in. That was a long time ago, i dont exactly remember the models. Ill google around. And a crate 212 gfx. Has sweet built-in effects. Chorus, delay, reverb, chorus+reverb.. the effects thing took a shit and made crazy noise when i turned it up. Eventually the whole amp started buzzing. Probably because i plugged a bass into it frequently. The speakers are fine, it's brains are all apart on my workbench atm. I was hoping on seeing some bulged caps i could replace. Other than those i just use the reverbs on the boss gt-6

Nah, totally different vibe when you've got some amp gain going on though. Personally I love it but you've gotta turn the duration wayyy down. Most reverbs will have some barely audible reverb lasting much longer than what you're "using". That'll be really audible with gain.

It really emphasizes the character of the preamp.

I def annoyed the neighbors with thay thing. You could get a shit ton of sounds out of that, the blue and white knobs had in and out positions, to make it "thick" or whatever. The reverb was nice, too. I gave it to my little brother when i moved out. He still has it, but he says it's kinda shot. It wasn't in the best condition when i got it tho
>>
>>65471809
randall makes some decent metal amps, its what kirk hammett uses. go for them if you like scooped mids solid state sounding metal.
>>
>>65471873
Well, take it with a grain of salt. Some other foruns to look at are talkbass (has some guitar stuff), tdpri, guitarnuts2, and thegearpage.

Consider SX or yamaha for starter gear.
>>
>>65471809
>randal jazz chorus
Jazz chorus are roland's, unless you're speaking about the randall RG series of amp.
I wouldn't recommend the Roland jazz choruses for metal though, the speakers are probably completely inadequate.
Or, you could get a head that has enough power to play clean jazz sounds, and two different cabs, assuming you've got enough money/space for that.

Don't buy a starter pack and you'll be fine.

>>
>>65471975
very simple actually, its the tuning that makes it sound intricate. i learned it by ear in a few seconds basically.

just some hammer ons and alot of open stumming, thats it
>>
>>65472026
Well, I don't agree with that guy about the speakers. As long as it can go loud enough and handle the bass you won't get speaker flub. But I do think a jazz chorus isn't a great choice. For a bit cheaper you can get a speaker than handles bass better with a peavey or marshall MG. If you want to go the clean amp + pedals route that is. Newer MGs have metal distortion stuff too but the older ones are a lot cheaper and the clean channel is just as good.
>>
>>65472026
The JC120 is an open back 2x12, by opposition, Mesa/Orange/Marshall cabs are closed back. That alone changes the frequency response of the cab.
Now I haven't tried the JC in a high gain setting, but it might not be completely appropriate.
However, since you can most likely just plug in an additional cab, you could probably get around that.
