Thinking of placing my strap buttons on the back like so: would I regret it?
>>
>>65191871
100% yes.
It's already terrible on SGs, this would be a million times worse.
I would go for the top horn on the left, and the middle right, just like a tele.

I know you have an indent in the middle right, but surely there's room?

>>
>>65192095
Lol. Not sure why you need the strap button placement to be unique from your other guitars, I'd just use whatever feels best.

Yeah a lot of people don't like the sg button placement, but there's no other place to put it on there.

One of my guitars pickup selector is loose as hell. I've opened it up but can't find anything visible that I can tighten. To change pickups I have to move the metal slot with my finger and it gets annoying. It's not my main guitar so I don't want to waste money and take it in.

Something in the amp is running HOT AS FUCK. Backcorner behind the "on" light gets hot when I push the amp, and the on switch gets hot to the touch. Is something getting ready to blow up?

Just got one of these in a trade, you ain't heard loud till you've heard 1200 watts (@2ohms) loud, can't even go past 4 on an 8ohm cab there's so much headroom. Pretty sick head, has a fantastic built in dual-band comp and a fair sounding tube driven preamp/overdrive. Prob gonna have to upgrade my cabs to something that can take some more power. Considering going for either the GK Neo 4x10 or 4x12 depending which i can find for a good price. Also planning on swapping the the 15's in my Peavey 2x15 with Eminence Kappa Pro 15A's to make it 1000 watts @4ohms.

jesus fuck just looked this amp up. what was fender thinking with this rats nest?

looks to me like the heat would be coming from your power tubes. 4 6L6 tubes will get hot as fuck. probably also loud as fuck also. don't worry unless something doesn't sound right

cbs fender was pretty horrendous with electronics in general, yeah. It's earth-shatteringly loud, but this heat doesn't seem like normal tube heat; almost burned myself on the power switch. First time w/6L6s tho so it could be. The smell COULD just be paint on the new Sovteks in it, but it seems like it's coming from inside the amp.

I just hope if it decides to go up in flames it happens at a bar/"real" venue rather than a basement show or some shit

>>
>>65195891
When you got the tubes changed did you have a tech rebias the amp for 6L6's? could be running a hotter bias than recommended if thats the case.
>>
>>65195951
tech changed the tubes so I'm assuming he rebiased it as well... Hopefully he just did that wrong and it's not my OT getting ready to blow up. Got a show this weekend so hopefully I can make it through that without incident. After that I'll shop around for another tech and get it looked over... again.

It may be possible to make playing guitar like an island separate from depression. A place without intellect or feeling, nothing but sound and fingers on strings. I found that building a fake refuge like that (because we know there's really no escape) helped me beat out a short path between my ears and my hands that sorta bypassed the weird ingrown mess that depression made of the rest. The disease feeds by taking control of your attention - leverage that.

Never heard a micro terror in person but the micro dark is very workable. Why the line 6? IMO an investment in a speaker cabinet would take you further. Playing a 2x12 with quality speakers of a voicing that suits your tastes feels great.

one is a mexican tele with ernie ball slinky 10's

have a strat with the same strings

i mostly practice on my acoustic though, has 13s on it atm and it kills me. obviously that would make it hurt more. and that neck is chunky af too

honestly i just overtrained for a long period and developed some pain in my fretting hand. i used to practice like 5+ hours a day but that was years ago now

i'm just fucking stoked i can play this with no pain whatsoever

god there are so many faggots that call themselves 'amp techs' and play mr. wizard with your shit

theres one 'amp tech' in my state (vermont) and I've had him work on 3 amps and hes fucked all three of them up in some fashion

I don't have any place to take amps for repair after dealing with that retard

is that wiring from the factory or from the amp tech?

if its factory thats pretty normal but if you had a tech redo it that is some really shit sloppy work

probably something fucked with the OT if theres heat going into the lightbulb, the OT runs right into that first thing.
>>
>>65199164
See >>65198631

Also trying to decide between a blues junior and the 15 watt bassbreaker combo. Then maybe a TC electronic spark, seems like a good booster.
>>
>>65199141
All music is derivative. Your options now are to go into metal's technical complexity or jazz's theoretical complexity.
>>
>>65195891
what do you mean 'first time with 6l6s'

?

the OT goes right into the light bulb and then the heater wires go off that to the tubes

if he just changed the tubes and rebiased he fucked the rebiasing up...but that would make the tubes run hotter than normal and the heat would be observed near them, around the back of the amp, heat going into the area around the lightbulb sounds a lot more serious and it doesn't seem to reason that that area would heat up from a poor rebias job

Guys, is that hard to play with a 7.25'' radius neck?

A friend is telling me i waste my money if i get this 7.25 guitar because it's very hard to play (bending and things).

I have a 9.5'' radius guitar now, i tried them both and 7.25 is not that bad.

They're both jazzmasters.

P.S. i'm not so bad at guitar.

>>65199991
You can't just take in account the radius, there's the neck profile too and how you play, try them, you'll regret buying any of them without having tried the other.

>>65200274
That's sleek, they should re-issue that.
>>
>>65199991
I constantly read that 7.25 radius guitars suck and they are hard to play and then I bought one and found it to be the opposite of reality and wonder why its not more popular

to me it feels more comfortable, control over vibrato is improved a lot over flatter radius as is bending. I do not start to fret out bending notes with a 7.25 either unless going over 3 semi tones.

A lot of 7.25 guitars have slightly wider string spacing too which is often touted as being harder to play than more modern spacing but this is another thing I found to be pretty much the opposite of intuition and its often easier to play on wider spacing for some stuff like arpeggio type playing with complex chords that incorporate open strings and travis picking. I do not have large hands.

>Threadly reminder that pointy guitars are for fags.

Also, can I get a recommendation for a decent wah pedal? They look fun and I've got some cash to burn.

it's probably not great but there are a number of quite playable acoustics in that price range and some really good used ones around that.

as with any guitar, play it first. it it plays well then buy it, brand is secondary.

I have only ever bought one guitar without playing it first, however I had played the model extensively and the shop just didn't have one in stock when I went to buy it.

never order online from an unknown dealer, you don't want a Chibson

Eh, an affinity is about as good as an SX, if not a bit worse for some models, and costs more. I'd say when it comes to squier you have to go for CV to beat SX, though obviously you have to like vintage specs.

SX guitars are pretty much all 12" radius, which is a major difference between them and squier. Also, they're D shape neck profiles. To me that's all exceptionally comfy.

I'm pretty biased because I prefer those features, and the two-way truss rod is a nice touch for those who prefer light strings or just live in a humid climate and don't want as much risk.

If you want to step up among SX there's the little known "constellation" series, which are in a trial period, and as such, are underpriced, though with limited options. They're meant to fill the gap left by agile no longer offering strats and teles unless custom made. Those all come with fancy bridges and leveled frets. Annoyingly they have heel-adjusted truss rods for some reason.

I'm pretty much a fanboy at this point so take it with a grain of salt.

You can build up the dexterity.
>>
>>65203517
try both out for a while. Maybe rent a cheap guitar for a month or see if you can borrow. Lefties playing left handed is more typical. Don't worry about availability of guitars unless you want to collect guitars or something. You can get a big enough variety of basic shapes and configurations that simple mods can fill in the gaps. People saying there's not many left handed guitars is mostly regarding the big brands (fender, squire, gibson, epiphone, ibanez) that usually mark up on left handed, too.

tl;dr You're only priority should be comfort.

I'm having a strange issue with my pedalboard...

For a while, one of my pedals was giving me trouble. I would lose signal, then nudge the patch cable, and it would come back.

I replaced the cables, but the issue persisted. So I figured it was just a bad connector & cleaned it out.

A few weeks later, every one of my pedals is doing this... I lose signal (or my signal weakens) so I nudge all my patch cables, and eventually it comes back. Every time it's a different patch cable.

The odds of every single patch cable of mine failing seems incredibly slim. They're all fairly new, some of them just 2 months old...

The only thing I can think of is that it's been getting more humid lately... I didn't have the dehumidifier running in my basement... so possibly it's short circuiting b/c of moisture?

I've never heard of this problem, though... and in my 10+ years of playing in hot-ass basements, never had a problem like this before.

If anybody has any idea... it's much appreciated.
>>
Hey /gg/, new guitar player, been playing bass for a couple years and learning guitar for a couple months. That's kinda like saying squier is fender. Same company, different line.

But really I've heard those guitars are pretty good, depending what you pay. They've got anlico pups, for what it's worth. To a beginner those pups will probably sound like sex. I heard the tuners are particularly bad even compared to similar price range.

They need a setup which is no surprise for sure, expected for all guitars in that range. If you dig the look by all means looks like a green light. I would see if you can find one used though. Guitars like this can have a good markdown from people who never set them up right and think they're shit.
>>
>>65203895
No, I mean modding left handed guitars to have whatever tone you want. Simple shit like pickups and wiring. It's much more practical and frankly wiser to get a left handed guitar that isn't exactly what you want, and mod it, than to gwt a right handed guitar and convert it to lefty. Converting guitars sucks ass.

By other companies I really do mean anyone besides those listed. You might have to order direct instead of through a store though, so make sure they've got a decent return policy in case it gets damaged in shipping.

Has anyone tried the new bassbreaker amps?
I was originally looking at the 65 deluxe reverb, but it's at a similar price point.

Mainly looking to play shoegaze with sweet clean tones as well. I know the bassbreaker has a British outfit, more like a box though so I dunno. Might miss that.
But it also potentially has warmer tones with more mids which could be nice sometimes.

You can look up how to set up your guitar. It is something an idiot can do... If your capable of reading all the instructions before you start. Pretty much every guitar requires a setup, either because it's never been setup, because you change strings, or because you prefer different action.

I was comparing squier to SX because it's a similar company to squier in terms of what they offer. The same quality as affinity but at a lower price. So if you're leaning towards affinity for aesthetic or price reasons, SX is a better choice.

Badwater on the other hand seems to be a small step up from SX in terms of the pickups. The rest is pretty comparable, but seeing as they have a different look to them that's up to you.

I don't want to tell you which guitar to choose, obviously. It's up to you. What made you narrow it down to these two brands? If it's actually specific guitars it'd be helpful to tell us the name and price of each.

I'd be cautious about targeting a warm sound from an amp. Reason being, I always have a harder time getting a warm amp to sound crisp than vice versa. I might just suck though. But it seems like you can loosen up a sound through playing and effects, but tightening is more difficult.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone found the opposite true as well. Might be prudent to try to get some tones that the amp ISN'T suited for out of it before you pull the trigger, to get a better idea of the range.

Now I feel like a dick because this is all a huge generalization, I've never played a bassbreaker.

Obviously, extreme downtuning is a part of it, but whenever I try, even with heavy strings, it sounds muddy and dull.
>>
>>65203545
good soundtrack
>>
Lower bass frequencies, use less gain, use speakers mics or software that can handle that deep low end. Most downtuned mixes sound huge by using multiple guitar tracks

I don't know much about classical guitar technique but how is he doing that? It's like he's strumming, tremolo picking, and arpeggiating at the same time

Not a good price for an SX at all. I'd expect more in the range of 140 AUD.

A Matamp GT2
It's still quite a ways off though.
>>
>>65206008
true, i just found some used for 100, which id say is heaps better. would you say the axl was a decent price? i was considering offering 150 honestly, and seeing if i can get him to agree to 180 or so

or is there another variety version of the SG that's better and more affordable?

great amp i think orange might have similar sounding amps due to their shared history but yeah Matamps are easy to get in the UK

>>
>>65206344
I was looking at Orange before, but a Rockerverb MKIII costs roughly the same as a GT2, and I think I prefer the GT2 sound. I'm in the US though, so I'll probably have to pay like $200 for shipping

Sigma's are licensed Martin copy's. The logo looks like Martin's because they own the company. They're made in China so they're nothing special, but perfectly playable.

My dick.

While I dont think id make good use of one, I love looking at 12 strings.

This is bait. There's a lot more than v's and the square shaped one maybe you just haven't seen many or you are in denial about your bullet strat purchase

I have yet to play a Martin, but so far they have been the absolute best acoustics I tried. Will try a martin sometime soon since they have started to stock them around here.

Going for: cleanish shoegaze, mostly bedroom playing, but often play with a band
Have a: telecaster

Would you recommend a deluxe reverb, hot rod deluxe, or a bassbreaker amp? Ignore price, I'm willing to buy what's best. And drive/effects will be from pedals for the most part.

Hopefully I can try them all out in store tomorrow.

I have one pedal (OD) and want to buy another one, I'm thinking a of a Boss Tuner, to get rid the the clip tuner, a VOX Wah(I like playing blues pentatonics and I guess it'll be cool for soloing faster stuff) or an Equalizer Pedal(more tones).
What do you think?

>>65207092
Its all in the guitar, get a high quality fender stratocaster and youll instantly sound better

>>
>>65206248
Depends on how you like the pickups really. Try to listen to demos of both. Also, if you plan on upgrading pups down the line obviously the cheaper one is better. And y'know, looks. I'm not gonna downplay the importance of choosing the color you actually want, or otherwise refinishing. I think it makes a big difference in becoming satisfied with your guitar and focusing on playing.

For what it's worth ceramics are getting a little popularity among high end pickups so you don't have to feel like a pleb whichever you choose.
>>
>>65207791
Yeah, it isn't bad at all. It's tough to get a good distorted tone though. Been using it for 2.5 years

I already use the pedal with full OD on the fully OD'd amp channel.

But seriously, what do you think I should get? Maybe a looper would be cool too.

I read the FAQ, but still don't know which scales I should be learning and practicing. I know I should do the basic minor pentatonic and blues scales in all positions, but what other scales should I learn? Aiming to improve my playing in rock/metal music
