It's one of those days when you just feel like singin' the blues.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow!

Jazzy folk, almost like Tim Buckley at times, but less out there. Has some songs here that feel like they could go on forever. Significantly less cheese than expected. Spare me the buzzwords and give it a listen. 8/10

Good evening, /daily/friends.

I am exhausted since the national public transport corporation, Danske Statsbaner, is completely fucked up at the moment. A trip that usually takes about 50 minutes, took two hours, both to and from.

Music for this feel? Or maybe I'll just continue with my exploration of Intakt Records catalogue, that Hijokaidan record Dogwander rec'd me and the Thirdogan/Government Alpha split.

What are you guys listening to?
>>
>>64774688
Thanks, I'll listen to that some time. Decided on Luciano Cilio.
>>
>>64775294
>What are you guys listening to?
I decided to end my non-stop Radiohead streak with some Catherine Hennix. It's pretty good raga stuff.

Listen to something soothing, definitely not the Hijokaidan record
>>
>>64775559
I enjoyed it, though, it was actually really good.

Yeah, I think I am just going to listen to some jazz or something. I've been listening to Everything Movies by Florian Egli Weird Beard all day, that is a good album, might just put that on again.

Anhoni. I don't, i haven't followed the p4k canon in 10 years.

Yes i am enjoying the new Radiohead. I have listened to it 4 times, still too soon to say my final word.

Because it's really straight forward with it's amazing riffs, psychadelic sound, eerie vocals, likeable weirdness. The improvised tracks don't appear as so.
I would rec that album to someone who never listened to krautrock before.

>Fat White Family - Songs For Our Mothers
It has one or two great songs, but holy shit almost all of it is garbage. I recommend hearing Tinfoil Deathstar and We Must Learn To Rise, since they're not really worth listening to the rest of this album. It's the usual psychedelic/blues rock revival stuff you see nowadays like the black keys, but even worse.

>>64781807
occasionally we do, but it's not something we talk about everyday. probably because most of us are too busy listening to poseur stuff.

>>
>>64781807
let's talk about classical a bit

what's everyone's favourite Bach cantata?
your favourite rendition of Beethoven's Fifth?
your most anticipated release this year?
your favourite orchestra?
your favourite album from this year? the last 5 years?
are you a fan of modern classical? when does modern classical start for you?
how do you like the radio classical?
what's the best concerto you have ever attended?
>>
>>64782271
205?

Bruno Walter

Not on par with the releases that will come out this year.

I haven't heard any album from this year.

Don't have a favorite orchestra. Pretty much most orchestras have highly skilled musicians.

Yes i am a fan of modern classical. Don't know. Never really thought of that.

I sometimes listen to the national radio of my country. The 2nd channel is 90% classical, 5% jazz and 5% poseur music.

Never had the oportunity to watch a concerto live. But by far my favorite live performance was the St John Passion directed by Ketil Haugsand with the Iberian baroque orchestra.
>>

>>
>>64782629
>I'd say that Comus, Velvets, and Unwound don't belong

the only reason they're there (as well as about half of that chart) is because /daily/ likes them/it's on the /daily/core chart

>>64782629
It was literally made based on the /daily/ essentials chart >>64778461

some of those albums have less than 100 ratings, and were just pulled from that list by Montie and his friends to piss /dailiens/ off, but most of us never cared in the first place. (see: https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/simon_wickham_smith_and_richard_youngs/ceaucescu/ )

Lmao he's posted here maybe three times?

Not that I'm a /daily/ OG or anything (I've only been here half a year) but every time I see him he's acting like some /mu/ authority figure. Most /dailiens/ never post outside of /daily/ anyways.

What the frick is that soundcloud yo.

Also, I don't dislike even a single album from there, actually.

98.12.28 is my favorite album ever, but DNA on DNA, Moondog, Thinking Fellers, Dance of the Moon and Sun, Fushitsusha, Vision Creation Newsun, are amazing too. I've only heard a few I'm not very fond of.

Damn...honestly if you're new to /daily/, the poseur chart is almost a better place to start than the /daily/ regulars chart. Definitly try out the top albums from >>64778461 though.

I'm posting this for the millionbillionth time but here's a /daily//poseurcore essential: Fishmans
>>
>>64782629
First This Heat record is closer to musique concrete than it is their second album, if that's your basis of knowledge.
It's mostly dark, industrial tape manipulations so don't expect anything catchy. It's great though so if this blurb didn't turn you off I'd recommend checking it out.

i was so excited for this but then it turned it wasnt folk, but lo-fi indie. it wasn't very good lo-fi indie. most of it was pretty eh and uninteresting, and although it had a nice little charm to it, it wears off towards the end. put me in a bit of a trance though, now my head feels weird.

I mean, daily tends to shy away from anything too popular, but there is an embarrassing amount of discussion here about meme albums from established 'indie' artists (Radiohead, Kanye, AnCo, etc.). Sure, obscure artists do occupy a greater percentage of posts here than in any other thread though.

>>64785238
Hard to make a black and white statement there. I'd say I don't care of course. But at the same time, I really don't listen to a whole lot of currently popular stuff, and actions speak louder than words, I guess? Make of that what you will.
>>
>>64785412
Oh i don't listen to a lot of popular stuff as well. Recent stuff, because i am listening to Beethoven 4th symphony as of now.
I don't have any pre conceived notions about a popular album. I admit i don't like p4k taste in music and i avoid what they love, but that's about it.

Silver Jews - American Water (1998)
>indie rock

Somewhere in between Pavement and Songs: Ohia, and its mostly really nice. It's at its worst when it's at its twangiest, like on the hokey "Honk if You're Lonely", but at its most melancholy moments it's some of the finest indie rock around. There's something about the drumming that makes this so wonderful to listen to, the hard-hitting nature of them combined with the generally subdued nature of the guitar and vocals is great, and the chemistry between Malkmus and Berman is terrific, especially on songs like "People". Very good record, probably the best I've heard by Malkmus save for Wowee Zowee, even though the more strictly country moments bring it down, they just don't do that style to well.

I didn't really like it very much on the first listen, but after 2 more i warmed up to it. The drumming and bass playing are really great and i liked the inclusion of wind instruments and strings. My main gripe is that most of the songs didn't really have a satisfying ending they just kindof stopped playing. The guitar at the beginning of Starless was some pretty good shit. Green Diamond/10

To not break the /daily/ flow, here it goes a review of what I'm listening right now: Boris and Merzbow's new collab Gensho.

It is a good proof that not necessarily two good things will make a third better one, it started solidly but halfway through Sometimes/Goloka Pt. 1 I found myself wishing I was listening to just one of the halfs. The explanation might be that while in previous collaborations Merzbow played second fiddle, providing parts for the blank spaces of Boris' songs, here we have two simultaneous albums. And Merzbow's first three songs seem to be old recordings (the final part of the cow trilogy of 2011, judging by sound and title tracks), which means Boris came up with their side and asked for Merzbow's and he dug up old stuff and made a new track to finish it off.

But it is a nice listening, since both albums are solid on their own and the blend of drone metal and hrash noise doesn't sound as bad as it would seem. For a true collaboration, definitely check out Rock Dream. They sound more finely tuned to each other there. (3.5)

>>64786442
>have you heard anything good in a while? maybe you found a new 10?
Bowie's last album hit me like a truck before and after his death. Apart from it, 2016 has been a solid year, new Oranssi Pazuzu is bonkers, Radiohead obviously, Mogwai, Parquet Courts is great though I think Sunbathing Animal was a bit better than their last one.

What's the best way to get into Jim O'Rourke? Dude has an assload of albums, but I'm interested after finding out he resurrected pic related from a bunch of damaged three decade old tapes rotting in a basement. I know the one with the fat balding dude and the bunny is the essential, but what else?

Oh, and you should all check this out if you have a space in your backlog, though I think all of Judee Sill's stuff warrants a listen if you female singer / songwriters. This in particular is probably my favorite.

>country, singer/songwriter, contemporary folk

Really cozy, the songs are nice, and Prine's voice is memorably down to earth, but there's just nothing remarkable or terribly interesting here. The songs are exceedingly pleasant, but never really cross the line of greatness. Still a good listen.

“Oh Boy This Shit Again” Round 4: I’M FISH Gets Only Good Recs But Still Has to Break Hearts

Sarah
>In My Own Time
A great songwriter, but I’m not a huge fan of her voice + I thought the musical aspects, while sometimes lush were mostly boring and too contemporary for me.

Kevorkian
>Weighing Souls with Sand
Fucking dense shit. I actually didn’t hate this shoegaze style of drone. The wall of sound was very pleasing, but I felt it dragged and didn’t do much with this concept other than the first two tracks. I felt it could’ve used some occasional breathing room.

Eruditey
>Schwarzwaldfahrt
Listened to this in my car. It sucked.
1.0- Worst album EVER

Seriously though, this was great. The tiny subtleties are what made it. And I loved how transformative it could be, even when it was just a two instruments layered over each other. The worst of tracks were the ones like Aufen Nr. 4 with very little to offer as far as improvisation. One of the best free improv albums I’ve heard yet.
8.5-

Yamir
>Don Cherry - Symphony For Improvisers
wew. Don’s the man. I liked this, but I don’t really see what makes this better than mu or Orient (according to RYM, anyways). Hol up, my main man GATO is on this shit? Fuck, I would’ve never known unless I glanced at the credits. Shit, yo.

>Iceage – New Brigade
Didn’t hate it, but was sort of underwhelmed. I loved Iceage’s new album so much, I thought this one would blow me away. And While I did enjoy a few tracks a lot (the 2nd, 4th, and 2nd to last in particular) I thought this was Iceage’s weakest output I’ve heard yet. Would still rec this to hardcore post-punk dudes, but nah, this wasn’t huge for me.

>Towering Inferno - Kaddish
Fucking all over the place, man. A mix of Industrial, Spoken Word, Modern Classical (my favorite parts) and a whole bunch of other shit. I would almost want to compare it to Soundtracks for the Blind in the way that its eclecticism is what really sets its atmosphere. Very rarely were there a few stinker tracks, this this was filled with ethereal spooky feelings. I feel like I could LOVE this with repeated listens, but after just the first few, I’m sticking with just liking it a lot.

>GY!BE – The Peel Sessions
The definitive version of “Monheim” from LYSF imo. The “Chart #3” is a continued vocal sample from the 2nd track of that album, then an entirely new piece: Steve Reich. Repetitive and minimal, as it should be. I wish the build-up were better in parts, and I wish this altogether was a longer piece, but a very satisfying listen that all GYBE fans should hear.
7.5- Tripfriend BARELY pulls ahead.

Dogwanderer
>Keiji Haino – The 21st Century Hard-y-Guide-y Man
I can safely say I’ve never heard a full album of hurdy-gurdy. There was some metal band I’d heard years ago that had a hurdy, as well as a few demonstrational videos, but never a whole album of just the hurdy. I love the hurdy-gurdy because it produces so many full sounds, from the strings rubbing against the wood, to the sliding, to the extra strings that vibrate when cranked fast enough. I was left disappointed on the middle two tracks, since he does so little with how variable of an instrument it is, but I think he comes through with its full capabilities on the bookend tracks.

Final four are as follows:
Dogwanderer
Erudity
Yamir
Tripfriend OTS

Boys, this is the last round. However, there is a catch: I would like you to submit a picture of yourself along with your rec (or don’t if you don’t want to, it’s just so your face can be in the winner’s box).

Just realized that

1. I got dubs (nice)

2. Everyone in the final four all came from the left and right side

3. This tourney is totally rigged

While I don't think I ever agree with your scores, rarely do I disagree with the reviews when they're at least somewhat fleshed out, which is pretty impressive.
