Repost from last thread:

Does anyone have experience with the Dirty Hesher pickups? I'm thinking about putting them in my semi hollow, but I want to make sure that they'd be okay for the sludge/stoner sound I'm going for. I figure since Pike helped make them, they are, but I just want to make sure.

R8 my setup.

Just got the pitchblack today, it's great. Glad I returned that shitty TC polytune clip.

Thinking about getting rid of the bassman. Only paid $300 for it so I could probably profit a little.
>>
Does Fender still produce an American '72 Custom Tele or is the Mexican one a good option?
>>
The HT fuse blew in my Orange TH30 today. Ordered some new fuses, but if it blows another one, it's time to change the output tubes, right? Also, who would you guys say is making the best EL84s today?
>>
>>64219886
Just make sure you get a model that has a six saddle bridge. A lot of those reissues have shitty 3 saddle bridges.
>>
>>64219922
Mesa, JJ, and Ruby in that order. All 3 brands are good though.

If it keeps throwing fuses it could be a multitude of problems. It probably isn't the tubes, in fact I would be very surprised if it was the tubes.

Call Orange if under warranty, if not pay a local tech $60-100 to fix it.
>>
Korg Pitchblack Mini or TC Polytune 2 mini?

Which one allows me to tune to any note on any string? Like D# on the E and whatever else on the rest.

Does anyone here use software to record, mix, and screw around with effects? I've been looking into Guitar Rig pro 5 to toy around with but im a bit hesitant because of the price and not too sure if/how well it would work with a Rocksmith USB cable. I've downloaded the demo/free version and currently trying to figure out how to set it up.

It's probably a tube.
Even if not, it'll be an easy fix for anyone who understands a power supply.
>>
>>64219993
Unless you absolutely NEED the polytune function get the pitchblack unless they're the same price.

What do you mean any note on any string? If you play any note on the neck it'll register on any tuner.

They're fantastic. I've had mine for about five or six years now, looks brand new and works perfectly still.

I went into a store got every tuner out and picked the one that could tune a 5 string bass. If it can tune that it can tune anything.

I have a signal chain for high gain I post here from time to time if you're interested?

Just make sure you don't use speaker emulation and instead use something like LeCab or NadIR with a decent Impulse Response.
>>
>>64220241

Yeah, doing a little more reading, it looks like that fuse is specifically there to go when the power tubes begin to fail, to prevent any damage to the output transformer. I've had the amp for around 6 months now, I push it hard often so I'm guessing it's just a tube going. Hopefully.

>>
>>64220450
My regular pitchblack will display it as an actual sharp note yes. Doesn't display flats though.

Any reason you need the mini? The regular pitchblack is $49 on Amazon.
>>
>>64220463
I honestly don't think your tubes are bad. If they were the literal tone of your amp would change. And you'd be getting some nasty distortion.

How old are the tubes? If tubes last for more than a few months they likely won't go bad any time soon. When tubes go bad they go bad within a very short time of being used.
>>
>>64220455
I'm aware of the rebrand, Mesa has a killer warranty on their branded tubes though. And they burn them in themselves.
>>
>>64220580
Haha no, Pelham Blue is really close to the color. The finish on that guitar is actually called Blue Mist. Also, thanks for the compliments earlier. I love the both of 'em.
>>

Those humbuckers look fine. Although I read they aren't actually wide range, they just look that way and are really just your everyday humbuckers.

>>
>>64220463
Yeah or screen resistors, sockets, power trans, all that stuff.

Tubes are going to see full supply voltage and idle current whether or not you're playing loud. Your playing just makes the current spike up and down.
>>
>>64220599
I don't like the look of the regular, lol.
Weird protrusion.
>>
>>64220648

I bought the amp used, tubes are what came with it, electro harmonix in the output, and tung sol in the preamp. My guess is these are not stock tubes with the amp, and were changed out at some point by the previous owner. Now that you mention it, I've been noticing some fizziness, and background distortion even at low volumes.
>>
>>64220712
Right on. Well, the dirty old black one is kind of an acquired taste, but I absolutely love it and play it every day. It's the guitar I learned to play on.
>>
>>64220819
Are the tubes red plating?
>>
I've been working on composition and coming up with interesting chord progressions but no matter what I try to come up with or what I start on it never really sounds interesting. I've been trying to deviate from the usual I-IV-V-I stuff but no dice.

How did you improve your songwriting? And how strictly do you follow theory? I know that certain chords go nicely together (iii-vi, V-vi, IV-ii, vii-I, etc) and I've been trying to use those more
>>
>>64221025

The arpeggio version of Wicked Game is pretty easy but they'll be frothing at the gash if you can sing the chorus well.

You can't trust visuals on a tube. Some glow on the plates or screens, while not ideal, isn't unheard of.

I just had a 6l6 give me a mini lightning storm (and it took the fuse/breaker). I threw it into the Eico tester for shits and it tested good.

Ive wasted a lot of time in those 8 years an have not practiced with much discipline but as soon as i dropped out of univeristy i started to write my own music and ive grown with much more speed, ive seen my abilities increase exponentially. I have never learnt another song besides the material i write and the way its turning out I dont think i want to either. Do you think pushing yourself in your writing and playing at the same time is equally as beneficial if not better than learning other peoples music?
>>
>>64223219
I mean I think it's a bit more difficult to improve without learning at least a few songs here and there, or borrowing concepts from other artists. I've expanded my phrasing vocabulary a lot by listening to jazz and fusion players and trying to copy their licks, and that's helped me write more interesting solos and become a better improviser.
>>
>>64222917
I've learned from experience that girls aren't that impressed by good playing unless it's virtuoso level shit. Focus on being able to sing well if you want pussy out of it.

It has some damage near the cutaway (seems to be from a stand fall or short drop) It also has some cracking near where the bridge would be from being stored in too dry of a area.
Wondering if I should buy it. The action is still good and I could probably get them down to $150. Any anons have experience with Ovations?

Look at classical music, determine ways to modulate from key to key.
An easy way to get from major to relative minor is through a major III(which is your V in the relative minor) then move to your new tonic, i.
Alternatively you could take that III and modulate to your parllel minor by going to your VI-V-i in your new key.
You could also modulate up a fifth, Bach liked to go from C major to G major all the time.

Broadcast transmitters or radio telescopes. That one came out of an FM transmitter near here.

It vaporised someone a few years ago and they changed the towers over to MOSFET. Guy would've taken that power at around 103 amps.

Not much we can do with the 10kW, but been brainstorming ideas for the preamp tubes since they can output 300 watts each.

anybody try the new Dr. Scientist Heisenberg Molecular Overdrive? pretty innovative

Dr. Scientist—with help from the National Research Council of Canada, the National Institute for Nanotechnology and the University of Alberta—developed a way to use nanotechnology to create a molecular junction, a new kind of diode that saturates in a slower, smoother, more pleasing way than conventional, silicon diodes. What resulted was a new kind of overdrive pedal, featuring three gain stages: a MOSFET booster, an NPN transistor fuzz and an opamp distortion.

Get yourself something with two big bottles (6l6 or el34) or four el84s. This puts you in the territory where you can play a space unmiked comfortably.

Ampeg and Traynor guitar amps are great and undervalued, so are musicman, Sovtek migs, Red Bear, Univox if working, lots of used peaveys but a few are pretty respectable.

If you're shrewd, you can get a workable amp down close to or at 200 bones.

Is the positive grid thing some kind of joke? Looks like they did a good job paying all the popular youtubers to advertise for them, but the demo version sounds like total shit. Garage Band's built in amps sound way better. I don't get it.
>>
>>64233290
iirc, raising/lowering it will change the break angle of the strings, which partly changes how hard the strings feel.

>>64233501
You've got to tweak a lot with amp sims to get a good sound, unlike most amps where you can just plug in and it'll be good.
Also IRs, if you don't use them every plugin's going to sound like ass.

>>64233849
Admittedly I don't know what I'm doing with amp sims, but the only way I could get any reasonably good sounding tone out of it was by rolling off literally all of the treble and presence, and you shouldn't have to do that. The stock sound I'm getting out of it is just a ridiculously harsh glassy, abrasive sound, it's awful.
>>
Which Prince songs will you be learning in tribute /gg/?
>>
>>64234038
Impulse response, they simulate the way a regular cabinet acts, without them your guitar sounds shrill and unpleasant.

>>64234090
Definitely sounds like you need IRs, guitar cabs roll off a lot of the shrill high-end, which doesn't happen with amp sims.
There used to be a link to a Mesa cab simulation in the OP but it's not there anymore, I can upload it if you want. You need an impulse response loader as well, like NadIR

>>64234135

>>
>>64234245
Huh, guess I'll look into it. Strange they don't include it in the plugin so that it doesn't sound like shit, or even say that it's necessary to have one. The plugin does have a cab simulator running, I don't know if that's the same thing.
>>
>>64234135
none
>>
>>64233290
It's position and height determines the break angle of the strings over the saddles. Generally you should not mess with it.

>>64241435
That is my first interface, it works and by all accounts sounds as good as any other budget d/a. You can't bypass it's built in preamp, only set to unity gain to get least effect...but it seems quite transparent.
>>
>>64241435
It has that switch for a line or an instrument signal, it'll switch to high impedance if you select instrument, meaning you can easily record a guitar/bass directly. It works just fine for clean, you'll have to do a bit of work if you want a proper overdrive sound.

No, the 2i2 only has line outputs on the back to hoop up to your monitors etc. like I mentioned you can't bypass the built in preamp, but when you set them to unity gain they are basically having as little effect as possible...meaning you can just run your signal through your outboard preamp into either line in to get its coloration or whatever reason you want or use the external preamp. I almost 100% run the signal through an external preamp, or external d/I box. The 2i2 is pretty bland sounding on its own, which is probably a good thing.
>>
>>64242095
I have an AC15, not much you can do to get more headroom out of it. I rolled a lot of NOS tubes in it and prefer Telefunkin el84 for their wide open balanced sound, and Mullards or amperex 12ax7 to warm up the midrange and add a little more presence. If you want less gain you might look into rolling a 5751 instead of a 12ax7 in the V1 spot.

Check out audiotubes.com for good subjective description of how different brands of tubes sound, plus he is a really great guy to deal with.

Don't fall for the "metal guitars" bait, everything that has a humbucker can play metal and with some heavy tweaking you can even play death metal on single coils.
Get a proper guitar that doesn't rely on a gimmick.
>>
EP-2 is great around the house/studio, sadly digital delays that are supposed to emulate tape delay just don't sound like the real thing and I needed a road ready tubed tape delay so i picked up a Fulltone TTE which does a really great job of being a sonic/functional clone of the EP-2.

Fulltone started making a clone of the Echoplex EP-3 solid state tape delay last year. Early production units had some problems with quality of parts used...so i you look to buy one on the secondhand market keep this in mind...but they worked out the issues and i picked one up. Its nice and compact compared to the original EP-3, and adds some nice features that really make it quite the versatile l tool.

Anything that pretends to be "great for X", like pretending LPs are perfect for blues, or that teles can only get twangy.
Now I'm not dissing LPs or teles, but you can pull off so much more with just an EQ and your knobs. And they're easy and cheap to mod too, changing the pots on a Gibson LP for exemple can give you a brighter sound, or you could switch the position of the cap on a tone knob so that it removes the low end instead of the high end.

Also just an opinion but RRs feel awkward to play, even when putting them in classical position, make sure you can try one out before.

Great shot.

I don't have an ac15, but I've worked on enough similar tube layout amps to know what you've got going.

The problem with swapping a 12ax with another 12a_ variety pre tube is that you're just slacking on preamp gain. You'll be able to move the volume control knob farther before things get dirty, but your actual volume at breakup will be pretty much the same.

Two el84s just don't have the drive to push tons of clean volume. Yours share a cathode bias which gives a cool sound but sacrifices power.

If your model ac15 is using a 5y3, then a solid state rectifier will give you a lot more power and less sag. It would be wise to check with vox if this can safely be subbed in.

at that price point there's no reason to not get a Ric.

fucking $5000 but I'd love one.

Danelectro makes good electric 12s on the lower end.

I've played both and liked the burns neck more. these were at different times/gear so who knows regarding the sound of stock pups, but the burns neck feels sooooo good for a 12.

i like the danelectro, old silvertones are some of my favorite guitars to play...but looking for a real top quality instrument for a 12 string electric
