I a/b it with my vintage foxx tone machine and can confirm it is a clone of that circuit. So really any foxx tone machine clone will get you in the ball park. I believe there is an old? Danoelectro pedal that is a simple mod away from being a straight up foxx tone machine clone, the name escapes me and I've never personally tried one...but that MIT be the least expensive means.

Creepy Fingers makes a really ripping Foxx Tone Machine clone if you can score one...his pedals usually go around 150-250 secondhand and he's my facorite clone builder.

So yeah, a foxx tone machine clone will get you 90% of the WATA's octave fuzz sound, minus this really lovely grindy texture that the WATA has which seems to cover the whole sonic spectrum but is maybe most noticeable as treble energy.
>>
>>64200695

Damn I'll keep an eye out for one then, thanks again man.

I heard MASF had made a Roland Bee-Bah Clone for Wata before so a few peeps figured her pedal was gonna be just a copy of one but they didn't really sound alike to me at all.
>>
>>64200793
Yeah the Watafuzz is completely covered in this like...velvet material. Same as the vintage foxx tone machines, that was the big clue for me that it was based on the Foxx. I am sooooooo glad that I got a heads up when the preorder went up. it's just sad or disappointing that many people bought them for the sole purpose of flipping them for obscene profits. It's a keeper, aside from sounding great it's the fucking WATAfuzz!
>>
>>64200945

yea I don't have any money cause I'm a poor universty student, I went to see Boris and I asked the merch table person even before they'd started setting up the table and she was like "oh dude we can only sell 1per venue and as soon as I got out of the van someone approached me and bought one" so I was double fucked.

alas one day i'll get free japanese boutique pedals cause I'll be a big hit and shit
>>
>>64201000
A couple people on a forum I hang out at all tried and failed to score one at shows too.

That danelectro tone machine clone is called the French Toast. I'm sure if you google you can find the mod...I think it might be as simple as just clipping a single wire.

hey /gg/,

for years I've been practicing on a small amp. Now I want something bigger, just small enough to practice but big enough for small gigs (if I ever have one).

I play clean 90 percent of the time, should I aim for a solid state amp? Or is tube just as good for clean and more flexible when it comes to overdriving/distorting the signal? I'm aiming for the biting Grant Green tone.

My budget is around 500 eurobucks, so far I've considered the Fender Champion 100, Fender Mustang, Roland JC-40, Fender Blues Junior, Vox AC15, and Fender Super Champ.

Any suggestions, recs? I'll be testing some of the named amps in two weeks.

Good idea but it seems really unpractical, the mallets take up all the space and there's no bridge pickups, the intonation looks questionable, and since it's a multiscale without fanned frets the playability must be weird.
>>
>>64204064

what's wrong with it? I always hear it's the best budget amp for clean sounds besides its big brother.
>>
>>64204097
It's $600 new, you can find a JC-120 used for the same price
>>
>>64204135

I can stretch my budget a bit. I don't think I'll find a good used 120 in my area, at least not much under the price of a new jc-40. Also I don't really need such a big one.

When I was underageb& I thought bass was for fags and that lead guitar was the only cool option but looking back I enjoyed and clicked more with playing bass in music class than I did guitar

What are the best "baby's first bass guitar" books? And what would be a good first bass guitar?
>>
>>64204211
Just get a bass you like and that's good quality, the only bad instrument for a beginner is something that plays like shit.
Just don't fall for "versatility means its bad", getting a bass that can pull off the farty P sound and the clangy J sound means you can play in almost every band.
Last advice's just my opinion but I think there's also nothing wrong with starting on a 5 string.

>>64204204
You're always going to depend on the local market for used stuff sadly. I get what you're saying about 120w being too much, I have a 20w hybrid amp and I never turn the thing past 3 in my house

>>
>>64204721
Not as good, the mustang is a modeler, no better, no worse than a Line 6. I can't say for the Champion, tho the price is crazy low 349usd for a 2x12.
>>
>>64204832

well it's solid state. I read a lot of good reviews on the web, but I suspect that some of them were written for cash.
>>
>>64204721
They're good but not as good as the JC40 imho. Another good SS amp in that price range would be a Randall RG series. The clean channel is supposedly good but they're used primarily for heavy stuff.
>>
>>64204046
Orange 35RT you will love it
>>
>>64204721
Grant Green used an Ampeg Gemini. A Blues Jr might get you a similar sound. Maybe you can buy an Ampeg Gemini, here in the US you can find them in that price range. Might be worth saving for if the prices aren't too high.
>>
>>64202537
The $40 makala is great. Not the lowest player but they sound great and the frets seem to be in order. Been playing ukulele for 4 years and it's still my favorite.

Pick the ones that are essential to your sound. I have a ton of pedals but narrowed my working board down to these three, sometimes I'll switch out the overdrive for another distortion pedal but the formula is always the same.

Too many pedals can sometimes cloud your headspace for making music. I'm guessing that's how you feel right now since you say it's not maintainable.

a capo changes open strings because you have it resting on top of open strings, it's not rocket science. it's like moving the 0 fret higher. or in easier tones, barre the entire fretboard and see if you change the tension

>a capo is a magical tool that uptunes perfect tones instantly

Today I'll be changing my guitar strings, and was wondering if it'll need another setup. I'm currently using a hybrid set (the first 3 strings are 0.09 and beyond, and the other 3 are like a set of 0.10s would be). I'll restrung it with a set of 10s, so only the gauges of the high E, B and G strings will change. Will I have any intonation problems or need some truss rod adjustment? My guitar is a squier affinity strat, if that matters.

Thanks!

at the very beginning is everything bypassed, then the compressor, then the fuzz, then the envelope filter and then fuzz and envelope. Adding the compressor into all of that helps sometimes, but I'm still not sure how to use all of this stuff properly.

Not what he said at all. He commented on this threads (and I notice it a lot on /g/ too) tendency to value aesthetics over substance, manifesting itself as an obsession with keeping guitars looking pristine at the expense of time spent actually playing. But that also disregards the relatively minimal amount of effort required to keep a guitar looking decent.

It's totally relevant because he hasn't had it it's whole life. To remove that kind of scrunge, he'd need to do some serious metal finish work the average person isn't qualified to do. >>64212140
pretty much this. I play my guitars, I don't spend hours every month dusting, scrubbing, and polishing them. They're tools for making music and I don't see them as investments. I'm not gonna to spend an hour scrubbing age spots off a perfectly functioning piece of hardware that's over half a century old. It would be one thing if I were doing something stupid to ruin its functionality, but oxidation on old Fender bridges is really common and it actually prevents the intonation from slipping on that terrible 3 saddle bridge.
This is the reason oxidized vintage Jazzmaster bridges don't have any of the saddle screw-slipping problems of shiny new ones. Scrubbing my bridge/tailpiece to hell might actually mess it up at this point, guys.

I would be interested in getting a 6 saddle replacement eventually but right now I don't care.

I know it's not a guitar, but I was wondering if I could get a little help maybe?

I got a ukulele as a christmas present (been wanting an instrument for years), and I'm trying to learn to play it. Well, I also got the 'Absolute beginners ukulele' book, and it has these music notes (I think?) in it that it wants me to try and play.

Well, I don't know how to read music yet and I've been googling and youtubing everything I can, and so far nothing looks like these notes, and I can't find these notes anywhere when I look them up.

Can someone tell me what they are and where I can learn how to read and play them? Or get a book or something on how to read it?
>>
>>64214816
up above you see the F, that is the chord you play. otherwise those are rhtyhmic notation showing you how to strum. the 1,2,3,4 are the beats. down or up strokes are what they are showing

No chance there's some youtube videos on this, are there? I really appreciate you trying to explain it, but I am horrible at learning things without visual aid
>>
>>64214945
dunno? i'm guessing the book showed you how to play a F chord? That first line you play and F chord, then the next line is C, then F, then C7 and F again. Do you see that?

you count out or just sing the words. when you sing BOB-----by. You are playing an F, and you strum down, down up on the BOB, when you sing the BY you strum down again. so strum Down, downup kinda quick, Down. then strum down when you sing SHAL, and strum down again when you sing TOE.

Does that makes sense?
>>
>>64214945
it would probably be easier just to find that song on youtube and just follow the strumming sounds.

that sheet is going into ridiculous levels of detail for just simple strumming pattern.

you're just holding one chord for every 2 measure, all that other shit is strumming notation.

This.
>>
>>64215135
it's not that complicated, all those stupid fucking symbols make it complicated.

you are just playing an F chord for 2 measures, a C chord for 2 measures, another F chord for 2 measures, and then a C7 chord for 2 measures. it's not complicated. just look up the fingerings for those chords in the book and you can play it. forget about the strumming pattern notation.
>>
>>64214939
even if you don't change the strings you need occasional truss rod adjustment. Intonation will probably be a bit off, but it's easy to fix since it's unambiguous how it should be set.
>>
>>64215188
Let me go look up what a measure is and the numbers after the letters, cause C7 is confusing me. Is that where you put your fingers on the string or something? For being an 'absolute beginners' book, it did crap at explaining this shit.

I might just go out and pick up an beginners book on reading music in general.

I just know too little for this stuff to make sense to me right now. I mean, I'm sure it seems obvious to you guys because you know how to read music, but to me this is like learning a new language, which I probably should have started with first.

C7 is CEGB, assuming you're in the key of C, so you have to place your hands on the fretboard (plank of wood that has the metal bars) so that you will play these notes when strumming, which on a normally tuned ukulele, should be just your finger on the second fret (remember, little metal bars), and all the strings strummed.
Also that notation is confusing, sheet is better when you read for every instrument

>>
>>64215311
a measure is just a sub division of the piece of music, it's just a way to organize it in sections. you see that black thick line? that called a bar, it separates each measure. you see the 4/4 at the beginning of the piece? that means each measure is 4 beats and the quarter note gets the beat (don't worry about trying to understand the quarter note part right now). every measure in that piece is 4 beats, you count it 1-2-3-4, and that is one full measure. in that piece you use the same chord for 2 full measures, and then you switch to the next chord.

how fast or slow you count the beats is dependent on the beats per minute (BPM). that piece doesn't have a BPM listed so i don't know how fast or slow to count it. i'm guessing it's just a moderate speed though, like 70 or 80 BPM.

if i'm confusing you just tell me and i'll help
>>
>>64215529

Fuck man, anything but metal. I love metal but I want less negativity.

if you want a classic rock vibe, try the black keys, their first couple albums are very bluesy classic rock. the white stripes are similar.

eagles of death metal are very classic rock sounding too, despite the name.

>implying there's anything negative in uncomprehensible gurgles
Also every technical/prog metal band speaks about transcendance and this kind of shit, not really negative. TBDM's just for taking the piss of it and listening to unmusical sweeps and fast playing.

I love Rubber Factory and Chulahoma by the Black Keys. That's exactly the type of shit I'm looking for, maybe a little better lead guitar.

I'll check out Eagles of Death Metal, I've been meaning to do that. Thanks man, any others in that same vein?

I more mean the vibe rather than the lyrics.

wilco isn't classic rock sounding, but sky blue sky has some amazingly intricate guitar work by nels cline. it's not high energy stuff though, but i think you'd enjoy it.

black angels is really good psych rock

I sincerely appreciate this man, have them all queued up.

You seem to have liked classic rock and hard rock as your favorite genres in the past, what filled that space for you?

>>64215975
Batshit retarded, that wouldn't even intonate.

i don't really know what happened, i grew up on hard rock and classic rock stuff and just branched off from there

trip hop was probably the first genre i really got into after my teenage classic rock phase, like portishead and massive attack. i can't even listen to that stuff any more because i listened to it for like a year straight
