now that's something new
Just got done listening to pic related, God was it awful. The band members might be skilled in their respective instrument but they couldn't write something captivating to save their life. They just shuffle through fitting in as many segments from different genres as they can (progressive rock, jazz, djent, death metal, symphonic rock, neoclassical, folk) but aren't able to make any part of it worth a damn. The band obviously knew that they couldn't make anything interesting in one genre, so by fitting in as many as possible they hoped that they could piece together something cool, instead they just created a Frankenstein of ideas that didn't mesh well. For something so focused on forcing uniqueness it was pretty tame, nothing about it felt experimental or avant-garde, whatever musical style they attempted to mix in here they made sure to play it safe resulting in a rock opera migrain of mediocrity. At least BTBAM were unpredictable in their assault of throwing in shit haphazardly, with this you can tell when a song is going to shift even if it's your first time listening, after two tracks it becomes formulaic and generic despite how weird the band tries to be. The only thing worse are the climaxes to their songs, as if strumming power chords and making your vocals louder while a keyboard symphony played in the background is supposed to evoke a feeling of epicness, nowhere is this more evident than on the self-indulgent 13 minute final track. Fuck this album, everything wrong with modern prog can be found here.

Lately I've actually listened to the whole ROTN album welcame and I must say... It's actually brilliant.
I don't have much experience in hardcore music but I must say it achieves a perfect blend between hardcore music and catchy tunes.
These days ROTN takes a special place in my playlist as music, almost on tier with normalfaggotry that just makes me want to jump and overall makes me feel good. I still listen to atmoshit and other metal but ROTN is just so fucking catchy I'm starting to understand people that listen to pop.
