the best of the genre is pretty much realized in RYM's top blackgaze albums, so just pick from there for other stuff
i've been listening to some instrumental blackgaze stuff recently, but most of it just plunges into post-rock. I don't really have a problem with that, but it makes it a tad formulaic and sappy. Cerna and Aves are kinda neat though if you are looking for that kind of stuff.

Not too good. The guitar tone is clean and paper thin which is never a good thing for death metal, even then riffs follow the standard thrash protocol with nothing standing out except for some melodic moments that could fit in easily on a SOTScore band from the early 2000's. The drums are mixed in too quietly hear, you could scratch the inside of your ear and that'll replicate what the double bass sounds like. In general the mixing was bad, it tries to be clean and polished while remaining as quiet as something recorded on a cell phone but then again this migĥt just be the fault of youtube. All in all it ranges from bad to ehhh, nothing that makes me want to hear anything else from them.

What a shock, Skeletonwitch are clean, sanitized, and freshly packaged blackened thrash for people who don't actually like blackened thrash. They'll play safe melodic riffs at a speed fast enough to qualify as thrash but not fast enough to scare away their audience, top it off with some melodeath-esque snarls that lack all ferocity and you have yourself easy listening blackened thrash that even Avenged Sevenfold fans can enjoy!
