>>
>>61947889
Get a used AxeFX II. You can find mint examples for what an AX-8 costs new. Triple the DSP power on the rack unit, no wait when buying used.

If you want new grab one of the close-out XL models. Only different between XL and XL+ is the latter has a brighter display. XLs are under $2000 (USD) new and there's no wait.
>>
>>61947895
It was cheaper and I was able to order an oversized 1x12 with an Eminence speaker to use with it
>>
>>61947889
Why not just get a kemper senpai?
>>
>>61947941
Massive tonal difference in the 2203 and 2205 though.

>>61947958
Not him but the Kemper vs AxeFX thing is only had by people who don't own them. They're completely different approaches the modelling and aren't really for the same market.

Either way waiting lists for Fractal is nothing new. I wait six months for my XL when it was released, and the wait for IIs at the time was even longer.

>>
>>61948078
>FUCKING GROW YOUR COMPANY JESUS CHRIST
Why do they need to? Supply and demand. People are willing to wait for the product and they can charge whatever they want.

Like I said before, just go buy a used AxeFX II. It'll cost you the same as a new AX-8, has triple the DSP power, and you can have it by next week.

Pretty expensive for something that you probably wont even be able to give away in 5 years tbqh. The only thing music related I could justify at that price would be a guitar tbqh.
>>
>>61948398
>give away in 5 years
AxeFX II came out five years ago in May. Used examples are typically $2000-2500.
>>
>>61948487
I mean like 5 years from now senpai. OR however long it takes for a successor to appear.
>>
>>61948617
An AxeFX Standard or Ultra will still cost you a good amount, but they were discontinued due to hitting the ceiling of what their DSP allowed. AxeFX II has such a ridiculous amount of DSP powerand considering they only recently did a huge firmware update (reset version to 1.0), it's not going anywhere soon.

Add in the fact that when the POD stuff was coming out no one ever really thought it sounded like an amplifier. It was more of a handy studio or practice tool. Once you start running modern modellers out through power amps and to cabinets they can be scary close sound wise. The differences are more apparent in how they feel to play although that's slowly improving as well.

Keep in mind Line 6 only just released a flagship modelling unit that has a third the power of what Fractal's unit had five years ago.

as a recording engineer with a baby grand at home, I was just asking a question. A post before said you had many. I was wondering what the space and upkeep was like. Thats all. I take a craigslist piano if I had a bed bug fetish. My piano tuner man doesnt even use tuning forks and switch to electronic strobe shit. I asked him if it mattered in the long run, he laughed for more then 2 minutes. Old music folk are great.

>Mesa Boogie mini rectifier 25
For the price of one of those you may as well just get a used Dual Recto and get a much much better amp.

99% of those low-wattage suckers sound like shit when you try to crank them.
>>
>>61953480
get a used solo rec. WAY better then the mini. Ive A and B'ed both. A used solo rec would probably be cheaper too. Just my 2 cents.
>>
>>61953505
>A post before said you had many
that was someone else.
>>
>>61953480
Just buy an old dual rectifier. I bought my roadster for 1100. It's worth it to spend the extra cash on it. The minis kinda suck.
>>
>>61953539
Anon, Im drunk and cant keep up. Cocaine dealer is on the way. Let me play you some tiny terror blues while we wait.
>>
>>61953152
Agreed, sometimes the pickups are too hot. Very mircrophonic at stage level. And it's mostly the pickup covers fault.
>>
>>61953525
>>61953532
>>61953554

I was thinking about this, but currently I'm not in a situation where I could utilise the full sized to it's full potential, I'll have to see what prices of the used are when I have the funds
>>
>>61953603
Sell those Squires and your least fav fender, buy a used mesa and cab.
>>
>>61953603
Not really about utilizing the full sized to it's current potential right NOW. But you may as well get a tried and true amp rather than a sorta-ok version of it that probably costs more/the same.

Better to get something good now then go through a bunch of ok things then get what you should have gotten 5 years and $5000 later. I made that mistake.
>>
>>61953640
I wish more people could be sensible and think about the long term with saving and spending money.

I can't think of the saying for it but it's to the effect of
>buy well and once instead of poorly and often
>>
>>61953689
And a measure twice, cut once to you; Mah nigga.
>>
>>61953639

Too much sentimental value on that squier, plus i've changed the pickups, pearly gates bridge, cool rails mid, jb jr neck

>>61953640

I probably will end up doing this
>>
>>61953744
Pickups never effect resell value. Unless they're spun with gold wire, which Gibson did sometime ago. Dem blues lawyers are some spend-full motherfuckers.
>>
>>61953787
Seconding this. No matter how much you put into a guitar, like cars, customization decreases value.
>>
>>61948225
I want to play that bass mate
>>
>>61953466
yeah, definitely. because it's free it's equivalent to getting a functional piano for no charge
>>
>>61953852
no the equivalent to getting a free functioning would be getting hit by a qt (because you wanted her to). punching yourself in the face is comparable to what you actually get from CL. a fucked up piano that will never be worth fixing
>>
>>61953876
why are piano fucks so anal? nothing is useless. But those used pianos do usually come with unkillable herpies virus.

So, I'm a huge Bowie fan and just finished listening to Here Come The Warm Jets. Robert Fripp's guitar style is fucking orgasmic. I've listened to ITCOTCK and a bit of Red, and they're good, but I'm looking for some Scary Monsters-esque Fripp. Any recommendations?
>>
>>61954029
Marshall, les paul custom with splitable pickups,
other custom electronics, sustainer, boost pedal, other effects you hear on songs.
>>
>>61954154
Thanks for that, but I meant music recommendations. Sorry if I was unclear.
>>
On a cheap ass fender strat, what other improvements can I make: locking tuners, TUSK nut, pickups of my choosing, new saddles or bridge. What else to make it comfy and playable. I like hot humbuckers and have a MIM project.
>>
>>61953480
Does that tele have humbuckers?

Jim Root tele. look it up. I like the 1 vol and out of the fucking way 3 way switch.

>>61954238
bought a squier tele at a pawn shop and was wondering why it had humbuckers. this makes a lot more sense
>>
>>61954261
there are several models of telecasters that come with humbuckers
>>
>>61954261
Cool bro. Sell it on craigslist for double the price you bought it and sell it for more then50 bucks the price you bought it.

Fender is full of guitar niggers then guitar players. The Root tele is probably the best thing to happen to tele design since the OG snake head proto. Change the pickups to suite your gay fucking style.

Assuming one wishes to actually compose wide-range of music after a while.
Is jazz theory or classical (harmony/counterpoint/structure) theory better?

I started with jazz since it seemed more applicable to my instrument but I'll be honest it seems...

Okay it seems very guitarish to put it simply.
It's quick to show the "how" but doesn't even mention the "what it is".
Like guitar players and how we often learn scales - they are just fingerings with memorized alt-pick pattern, instead of actual notes.
>>
>own the worst distortion pedal in history, aka DigiTech Death Metal
>sounds like shit with my guitar
>decide to try it with my bass because why not
>actually sounds almost okay

How.
>>
>>61946856
Any /gg/ guys from LA that want to jam?
>>
>>61948803

That's actually true. With all the cheap tube amps manufacturers appearing even babbies have them so now the mojo has partially worn off.
While good that also has a bad side to it - no one bothers making proper ss circuit equivalent of soldanos, mesas or marshalls.
We are left up to the modelers but they always feel off when you play them. Like you know, how bright semi-clean feels different from high gain with wah. That kind of feel.
>>
>>61954372

This. Have a squier bullet with scalloped neck and very thoroughly glass-like sanded back of the neck.
The neck feels amazing and I often prefer it over other guitars.
Might even drop money for good refret, new pups, tremolo and tuners.
>>
i'm a luthier, ask me anything
>>
>>61954581
why don't you make me a guitar for free?
>>
>>61954581

How much does wood matter for electric guitar tone? Especially with high output pups and generous usage of amp signal devastation.
>>
>>61954595
For the same reason as any guitar manufacturer. Everyone wants to earn some money for their job.
>>61954601
Not much actually. Wood does not affect sound. It is density that affect resonation - imho it is why some bodies sound different from another. For me it is all that matter in electric guitar. Most of the tone comes from pickups and amp but different wood can affect sustain and shit
>>
>>61954372
>>61954577
Thanks. I have other fender guitars and other american made guitars that have a bare or oiled finish on the back of the neck. It does make a difference. I played a Gibson SG for year and the dirt/oil/dead skin built up, making it harder to play. Im happier playing a bare neck guitar without varnish or other treatments. Looking to retrofit a mighty mite or warmoth neck on my favorite strat body.
>>
>>61953066
If you're talking about fender specifically I understand that high quality would come from these countries. But otherwise generalizing a country's quality is a shortcut in research not worth taking. There are certainly plenty of companies and factories that defy the trend, both in a good and bad way.
>>
>>61954581
If I were to take my guitar to an amp tech that works on his own guitar, would it be better my guitar go to someone that actually has the right gauges, tools, and lathes for wood working to get a guitar modified? seems dumb but its probably cheaper the first option
>>
>>61954321
please intonate your guitar
>>
>>61954577
a guitar tech may not be willing to refret your neck depending on how the scalloping turned out. Hopefully you didn't go overboard or remove much wood close to the frets.
>>
>>61954748
depends on the amp tech. From your post I'm guessing your guitar needs basic work any schmuck could do, but you think setting up a guitar takes a wizard. I recommend you take it to a luthier since you probably will think the same result is better that way.
>>
>>61954734

Well usually MIA and MIJ guitars are good quality wise isn't it.

Where else do they make guitars? Korea? Indonesia? I know PRS SEs and Schecters come from Korea. Indonesia.. That's where the cort factory is at right.
>>
My $30 dollar tape echo sounds better then any of your El Cap digi tape echo faggot shit.

My copy cat, even used in the wrong voltage, sounds better then /gg/ bathroom reverb chamber. I have better, more expensive mics too, Fuck with me.

>>61954952
>>
>>61954952
There are old instruments kind of like lutes that are fretless, but the scallops are the frets. Dont know how to explain it better.
>>
Recently got a jazzmaster and its really quiet, do i have bad pickups or is that just what they're like?
>>
>>61954973
They should sound thin but not quiet. Maybe you would benefit from a gain boost or an overdrive pedal with the volume cranked and gain/distortion lowered. Really depends on your amps settings; preamp cranked for distortion or preamp set for cleans.
>>
>>61954969
I know about that, but I mean with an actual guitar. Would it basically just be a fretless fretboard that's good for shredding? Or whatever people scallop for.
>>
>>61954973
Compared to which other guitar(s)?
>>
>>61955012
compared to my strat and les paul
>>
>>61948055

100% overjelly
>>
>>61955018
Should be similar output to a strat, but less than a Paul.

Check the Rhythm circuit isn't engaged, otherwise double check all electrical connections
>>
>>61955007
Scalloped necks are for people with light touch, and you can do crazy bends pretty easily. fretless boards take muscle memory to play a note in the correct tuning, much like a violin. Scalloped was pretty much an 80s thing. If its good for shreading while learning, no. If you have good ears and precision fret hand muscle memory yes. But hey, fuck it, drill yourself until you get it right.
>>
>>61955072
If it's hard to do chords on a scalloped fretboard and a fretless fretboard, I can't imagine what hell it must be to do chords on a fretboard that's both.
>>
>>61955094
You can always buy a used fender neck or normal or compound radius fretboard mighty mite neck for 150? Just train yourself on what you have.
>>
>>61955121
Oh, I'm not looking to do it. I'm just wondering what it would be like.

Why is it that Im at my recording studio, getting very drunk, watching Slumbs of Beverly Hills, Marisa tomai's tits are naked on the screen, but I cant use Apples default DVD player to screen cap them? This may not be relevant to the gear thread, but if I wanted to print out said tits and acid etch them on to a bare metal pedal, I have to go thru VLC to do it. I only use this Mac for recording and there is not porn on it.

Apple hates Jewish tits.

Marisa Tomei is of Italian extraction, not Jewish
>>

She plays a Jew in this movie. She does a great job of playing one of those girls out of options and marries pretty much any dude with cash to live comfy. Ive had girls like that try to put their claws into me to take my business.

Marisa has great medium boobs tho.

it would be just like a fretted scalloped guitar except the frets and fret board would be one piece and it would be less durable.

What delays and reverbs work well on bass?
>>
>>61951177
Yes, though the problem is mostly with the cheap shit speakers.
Plug most of them into a decent cab with quality speakers and they magically become capable, flexible, and toneful "secret weapon" amps.

Help me /gg/.
My bass strings are starting to give up, so I'm gonna change 'em soon. I've read that some strings (mostly Stainless Steel) can wear the frets faster than others. I'm currently using DR Sunbeams because I love the tone they give.
Any recommandations on strings that might be easier on the frets but still retain that kind of sound?
