I'm not sure what you mean by clench your jaw but I assumed that was a good thing. Cradle of Filth - Absinthe with Faust

Our blood was shed on the yellowing scroll
And all that glittered was not gold

Come my friend, to fate let's raise
Two finger shots at this our last soiree
For tomorrow I fear

Boring? That's the least term I'd use to describe it. Dawn of Dreams features complex compositions, synthies, a saxophone, jazz-influenced riffs and some weird ambient parts.

"Diana Read Peace" just captures everything weird but good about the mid-90s death metal scene. The big hype was over and then there were talented musicians just doing what nobody else did. It's hard to describe what exactly makes this album stand out, but I haven't heard anything like it.

The riffs are damn special. The songs as a whole aren't centred around them, so they take the chance and do everything different. What would be considered a guitar solo for other bands is just a regular riff in the background here. The use of pinch harmonics is phenomenal and the whole timing just as well. This could be called "precision", as the two guitars are often playing very different things which are exactly written to complement each other.

It took me months of frequent listening to really "get" all of the songs, and even now, years later, I discover new things.

Just compare it to "The Spectre Within" by Fates warning. It's somewhat like the cover artworks. TSW has a clean but unique style with fantasy-themed lyrics. ASG on the otherhand is layered and complex like no other album, weird, eccentric, psychotic.
>>
>>61554651

So I'm working on an online quiz.
The jist of it is this: you'll hear samples of black metal.
Your job is to correctly identify the sample.
There will be 2 versions, a multiple choice version and kvlt version where you type in your guess (I'll be sure to correct for capitalization and a reasonable level of misspelling for the Brazilians out there).
My hypothesis is this: shitters cannot tell the difference between most black metal at fucking all.

>>
>>61556229
if that's true, then it doesn't make sense to separate the things that make music good from the things that make it enjoyable. You should expand your idea of what makes music good if you find yourself enjoying something that you'd normally consider bad

I think the only way that it makes sense to say that you enjoy a bad piece of music is if music is actually objective, in which case most of the music we listen to on this board would be considered a guilty pleasure by patrician standards

>>
>>61556370
me too anon, The Gift of Music was sick as fuck and reminded me of Images & Words an awful lot.
>>
>>61556417
I don't know if I would call it sick as fuck, I did like it a lot more than most of the stuff on the last couple albums but I don't think it's I&W tier

If that's the average song on this new album then I am really pumped, because I could use THIRTY THREE more songs of that caliber
>>
>>61556373
I just listen to what I like and keep an open mind to new things.

I really couldn't care less if the music I like is "good or bad" from an objective standpoint, nor do I care what others think of the music I like. I like it and it's all the matters.
>>
>>61556359
