Yes as it fits the IDM aesthetic of electronic music produced for home listening. Same with all vaporwave.

woah woah hold up

we have an IDM thread going on and NO-ONE has mentioned Rustie? holy cranberry juice i have to rectify this matter immediately for the absolute sake of this thread
>>
Where to start with Mr Scruff?
>>
>>61240766
No, IDM is not just any "electronic" music/dance-minded music not meant for clubs.
>>
>>61240879
what is it then?
>>
>>61240879
>Intelligent Dance Music, most commonly known as IDM, is a term invented in the early 1990s to describe the sound of a number of electronic musicians who sought to develop dance music beyond the clubs and more into the realm of home listening.

https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/IDM/
>>
>>61241073
>A term meant to distinguish electronic music of the '90s and later that's equally comfortable on the dancefloor as in the living room. The sound grew out of a fusion between the hard-edged dance music heard on the main floor at raves and larger club events, and the more downtempo music of the nearby chill-out rooms.

I think if you want to avoid shitstorms in the future you should rename the OP's subject to "/IDM/ - Intricate Dance Music General"

Mr Scruff fits both those descriptions perfectly.
>>
bump

>>61241284
To avoid shitstorms all you have to do is ignore turny and the occasional /bleep/ autists.
>>
>>61242397
>autists

The only ones are those moving the goalposts depending on whether an artist is considered pleb/patrician on /mu/.
>>
>>61241298
vaporwave is post-internet meme

IDM is prog-internet meme
>>
>>61242426
Both are '' the sound of a number of electronic musicians who sought to develop dance music beyond the clubs and more into the realm of home listening'' and ''sound grew out of a fusion between the hard-edged dance music heard on the main floor at raves and larger club events, and the more downtempo music of the nearby chill-out rooms ''
>>
>>61242417
So, /bleep/ then.

>IDM s for neckbeard plebs wew lel xD
>industrial techno is for bergjain patricians such as myself
>>
>>61242426
you are meme
>>
>>61242464
No one said either of those things ITT, stop being so insecure.
>>
>>61242480
>stop being so insecure
But I'm not the first one to spout pleb/patrician memes ITT.
>>
>>61242456

>>
>>61240791
hes edm not idm...
>>
>>61242493
I'm not the one cherry picking who can be IDM

>>61242519
So? Both fit the descriptions for IDM ITT
>>
Is there more albums like Geogaddi? I mean, a clusterfuck of warm sounds and old samples.
I've already listened to Casino Versus Japan btw

Had Autechre on last 2 days and today, revisiting the 90s classics like Chiastic/Tri, both monumental albums. It's gonna be a nice Christmaes for me, got Confield on today, giving it a first proper listen, CFern is actually goddamn amazing.

welp we're done here

better run away before he has a change in heart and starts posting more of his starbucks-core lametempo lol
>>
>>61242690
Gotta handle it to him though at least he's keeping this thread alive. No one bothers keeping any of his shitty threads active, no one even cares when he samefags them.
>>
>>61242690
>>61242734
Why does turny get the blame for this? He puts that Squarepusher album on his charts.
>>
>>61242756
its just one anon who has a hardon for him
>>
>electronic music is not a genre

Ninja is a turny.
>>
>>61242938
>posting style

That chart thing is the same thing half the board does
>>
>>61242543
No, IDM, as vague as it is, has its roots in certain genres - Hardcore/Rave, Detroit Techno, Ambient Techno, Jungle, Breakbeat Hardcore. Vaporwave has nothing to do with any of this.

>>61242938
I'm not seeing the similarities from their top played desu senpai
>>
>>61242938
Ninja is more into Jungle and Grime than turny is iirc

I don't think he listens to a lot of downtempo/lounge either. I don't know what I'm doing with my life btw.
>>
>>61243136
well it is a bit like ambient and hip hop
>>
>>61243199
Which ones turnys?
>>
>>61243624
There's a difference between ambient and ambient techno, and while hip-hop does come into play in "IDM" at times (though a bit more so in downtempo), a small and tenuous link to it is not enough to connect Vaporwave to "IDM"
>>
>>61243940
Autechre would like a word.

Why are /bleep/fags so insecure and butthurt? Just stay in your thread and talk about your club music there. There is no need to come shit other threads up.
>>
>>61244189
Where? Who? Everyones trying to talk about music but IDMtards keep cherry picking whats allowed. Everyone else is just going by the standard multi-website definitions.
>>
>>61244130
That's why I said "at times" - in fact I was specifically thinking of Ae there.

But most of the time when similarly categorized music has hip-hop roots it goes slightly more into the downtempo category. Of course the difference between "IDM" and downtempo still cause issues at times, and a another debate is never wanted, lol. Usually I don't even bother with the uphill battle of classifying what is and what isn't "IDM" -rather tedious - but saying Vaporwave is, is...odd. I see no real similarities stylistically. Unless I've just been had.
>>
>>61244249
I wasn't the one who posted vaporwave and think its utter shit anyway so couldn't care less about it desu

>>
Is IDM dead still? I thought a new Aphex release would stoke the fires of this old genre but I've not come across anything remarkable in a while that isn't by the IDM old guard.
>>
>>61249224
IDM is still alive, it just ain't called IDM anymore.

Arca, OPN, the PAN label are the fresh new talents curating the IDM scene right now.
