Certainly not your favorite record!

Listened to two Richard Young albums very late last night, I don't remember their names but one was a repetitive lo-fi piano one, and the other was guitar I think. No strong feelings, but both were good.

>Blacklisters - Adult
I expected something more bland but this is incredibly fun noise-punk. They're often compared with The Jesus Lizard but they sound heavier, bordering on hardcore punk. The calmer, noisier parts are not very original but whatever.

>Have a Nice Life - Deathconciousness
Really liked this, nice combination of depressing post punk and shoegaze. Generic emo vocals were a bit disappointing though.

>Weezer - Pinkerton
It wasn't that good but I have a soft spot for Weezer so...
The blue album is better too I'd say.

>American Football - S/T
Again I enjoyed it, I don't really have much else to say about it.

Yeah, all the time, man.

I would think it as a product of the process of exploration and discovery that goes into with listening to music and delving into a genre.

I guess it comes with curiosity as well? I just always get giddy when I am about to listen to something new, even if I already comfortable with the genre or even the artist.
>>
>>61029498
Like jimmy jazz, it depends on what i've heard about the album, what genre it is, influences etc,

When was the last time you got that feeling? Think I might have just got it today after listening to Hasil Adkins - Out To Hunch .
>>
>>61029682
Doesn't that often lead to disappointment?
>>
>>61030673
Oddly enough, no. Well, obviously, sometimes it does but it is something that happens often. In the end, I almost always end up taking something positive away from the album.

>>61029968
Phantazmagorea by D-Styles almost made it, honestly. That record is awesome. Such an amazing work of cut-up, sampling, turntable work and scratching.

Again, with the Kid Koala record I am about to listen to, I am already excited as hell.

Pitchfork has for a while now been on the slow descent to Rolling Stone-level. Everyone needs to get over it.

Just compare the original Pitchfork 500, which was actually pretty good to literally any of the top-songs-of-the-decade lists they've made since.

Particularly take a look at the 80s on that original list, which got fucking ruined in their latest list:

In Rainbows was a pain to sit through. I can think of at least one or two songs I really liked from the other albums, but from this one, I can't remember anything good, it just felt like more boring alt rock. Really interesting, varied, and cool piano playing here. I really enjoyed this, despite the four hour length and despite it all being played on piano.

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses (1989)
>baggy / madchester

Ridiculously of its era, this album just doesn't hold up today. The guitar work is nice, but it just feels ridiculously over produced and overworked, and the alt. dance influence is too large to ignore. I can't deny "I Am the Resurrection" though.

Misanthropic and gritty, with some killer beats. The two MCs might not be all too spectacular, and their lyrics are a bit too typically gangsta and braggadocio, but those beats are undeniable. And there's "Shook Ones Pt. II". Yeah.

3.0+

Alright so I'm determined to finish this! I hate my old rating system, so just kinda ignore it.

I was actually fairly impressed out of Julian Cassablancas + The Voidz, frankly I was not expecting this to be much good, but there are some really some solid moments. The first half definitely outweighs it's second. I enjoyed the sorta gruff, modulated vocals on here with the aggressive mix of electronic elements. Human Sadness is a highlight. Lows are fairly low on this and second half drags badly. The slower ballad type songs here don't work great.

For that reason I'm going with Thomas and Yo La Tengo, idk if I was maybe influenced by the artwork/album name but I feel that this is just a really nice sorta sleepy album with some great songwriting on it. Good picks overall

Good Morning /daily/!

I am currently thinking of whether or not I should move to burgerland next year. I'll have to leave all my records and instruments behind D:

Going to check out some dank music in a bit. Probably sit through Karmien's analysis of Vivaldi's Spring before more in-depth Bach bits.

So I'm reading some analysis to a Bach piece and I have a question. How are the musicologist assumptions made in terms of what the instrument sections symbolyze? Is it just claims or do composers actually note down their intention?

I am listening to Magnificat which is closely tied to the Biblical texts so I guess there is a basis for assumptions, but a lot of the interpretations seem rather vague.

Help?

Magnificat was really good. I enjoyed that the vocal work on the movements was very varied with the soprano on the third movement being my favorite. I also thought that the different combinations of the vocalists+soloing instruments made each movement stand out.

The Orchestral suite was pretty good too but I thought the Air wasn't as soft as the one I heard conducted by W.F.

8+/10

The audio quality is 6/10 and I need to find some good performances of these pieces that don't sound this ancient. Recs welcome.

>>61053316
>Is it actually called an analysis or does it mention interpretation at any point?

>Really depends where you're moving from and where you want to move to. Care to elaborate why you want to move? That's a pretty big commitment.
because living here is boring, my friends are in NYC, the audit job is pretty much the same exact thing and the pay is much higher, fits the standards of living in the NYC. I have higher chances of getting a green card too because of some strings.

The negatives are that my duties will also have to include b2b sales. Not too keen on that. Oh, and I am going to leave a lot of my stuff here at home.

Big Moe- City of Syrup
first of all, this album cover is misleading as fuck. big moe looks like an evil, nihilistic, codeine-for-blood type of motherfucker. I was expecting a slow, heavy sound, and dark lyrics. what I got was surprisingly fun and almost goofy at times. it definitely sounds like it could have come from an earlier era of hip hop.
I like how cheap this album sounds. like a lot of effort was put into making it sound professional, but there's some really basic sounding synth sounds here. it doesn't hurt the album in any way- it gives it distinction. Destroyer's Your Blues is like this record in this regard. a light, simple sound that allows your attention to focus on the lyrics, which suits Destroyer's Dan Bejar perfectly, and suits the many rappers featured on this perfectly. not to say the beats are overly simple, they're enjoyable and not without surprises.
speaking of the many rappers featured, this is like a showcase of houston. Z-Ro, Big Pokey, and DJ Screw all are present- and a load of other names I didnt know previously.
lyrically, this is exemplary of houston rap. so much talk of codeine. you get about the same thing from any freestyle track found on a screwtape or similar screwed up click release (in fact, this album even has a screw freestyle), but Moe's delivery is above a lot of those rappers by a bit.
the final track, leanin', is pretty amazing. there's a 10/10 song Z-Ro put out in 2009 that borrows the hook from leanin'- "I can't leave drank aloooone"

anyone looking to try houston rap might do well to start with this record. it's not my favorite houston/ screwed up click release by any means, but it's solid and has a lot of great talent.

I'm back from the dead with more emo

>Rites Of Spring - End On End

This compilation contains a large portion of the legendary band Rites Of Spring, famous for helping creating emocore.
First thing first, and also the reason why some people could dislike this record: it's more on the "-core" side than on the "emo" side, and this means that it remains pretty static into his angry mood and style. I don't really mind it because I really like the fresh and original songwriting and I wasn't ever bored in these 50 minutes.
That said, I have to admit that my favorite songs here are "For Want Of" and the title track, the more melodic ones; with this type of songwriting and melodies, Rites Of Spring managed to create some really moving and passionate jams.
As I said before, generally the melodies are enjoyable and interesting, and the performance of every member is on point, especially the intense vocal performance of Guy Picciotto.
Still, listening to 50 minutes of this, even if I find it worth it, may be tiring, so I suggest to take some pauses to appreciate this better.

7.5/10

>The Hated - Every Song

Eh.
This one doesn't really stick out, under any point of view.
The song structures? They could've been more interesting, they just seem kind of predictable at times.
The melodies? They are nice, but I fail to connect emotionally with them, and this is a big problem in and emo album, a genre that takes his name from "emotional".
The performance? Good, nothing bad nor cringeworthy, but also nothing to write home about.
Are the individual parts well written? Well yes, they offer some nice moments, but that's about it.
There is anything mind blowing? No.
There is anything interesting? Yes, I kinda liked the use of jangly guitar and voice that reminds me of the vocalist of R.E.M., but unfortunately they don't always go hand in hand with the music.
It really didn't do much for me, if it wasn't still clear.
The Hated? More like The Indifferent

Wow, this chart's off to a really good start. It's really fucking noisy and I love it for that, noise rock is one of my current favorite genres, so this is just what I've been looking for. The drumming is 10/10. I also really liked the guitar solos on this, even though I'm not really a fan of them. I'd give this a 10 but I should give it a few more listens before honoring it with such a score.

In this short episode of "Dog catches up with essentials he should have heard years ago", I would just like to point out how incredibly simple and on point this album sounds, considering all the different time signatures.

And the drumming...oh, the drumming is some of the most pleasant I have heard in a while.

The only flaw (I M O as usual) is the way Pick Up The Sticks closes off the album. Way too hasty.

You can predetermine a schedule for a month or you can report back on whatever album you randomly picked every day. Many of us make our schedules interesting in various way, popular ones being genre restrictions, new releases, and recs from the /daily/ community.

Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream

This is a competent Death Metal album, it's not objectively offensive
I kinda hate the blast beats, it's uninteresting and is just used to fill gaps in sound
not the best, but certainly not the worst
6/10
