Posting these again, probably the last time.

I had two brain hemorrhages in August (hit by a car) and have been learning to play again. You might have heard some of my fumblings in September when I nearly couldn't play at all.

But yeah, looking for feedback on the tone and if there's anything noticeable in my playing I should be focusing on improving again. It's hard to do now since I have to focus so hard to keep my left hand doing what I want it to do...

I like the P-Bass sound. It's got that nice thump that's great for rock. The J-Bass is more versatile though. When in doubt get a PJ bass; you don't lose anything over the P bass but you get a little bit of the tonal flexibility of the Jazz.

>>60574904
While the Jazz is definitely more flexible than the Precision, I dont' think the Precision really lacks flexibility as far as rock goes. It has all the tone variation you're likely to need for most genres, especially when you consider the difference you can make with different strings, amp effects, etc.

If you're leaning towards the P bass, just get it. You won't regret it.

Thanks. It's hard to say really, they're all for different things.

The explorer used to be my main live guitar, and probably will be again soon. It was also my first good guitar.

Les Paul I got shortly after my grand mother died and is probably the "best' guitar there. Killer sound, awesome to play.

Strat is a 1979, my Dad's first guitar. It sat under a bed for thirty years or so after he emigrated. He found it recently while overseas and brought it back for me as a surprise.

K-7 has that dumb inlay, but has BKPs in it and does most of my recording. It'd be the most ergonomic of those guitars, but doesn't have the same mojo as the other three I guess.

Check out my videos if you can, any advice or feedback is appreciated.

You didn't understand a single part of what I posted did you?

It arcs 800 volts (give or take) across and burns through the coating. At that point they stop working. You just pull it back, lift it over and sleeve it. There's no "couple hundred turns".

I'm selling this now, so what guitar that's under $800 can I get that has really high quality humbuckers or P90s and looks nice? I was thinking about a SG Standard or SG Classic, Somic blue blacktop HH strat, or Reverend Jetstream.

Whatever you say buddy. That was the problem in that amplifier. Worked perfectly after that. It's a common problem in early DSLs due to how the transformers were wound.

What do you have? Pics maybe?

I've been looking at the Ibanez GSRM Mikro. It looks like a blast to play and from what I've read, it's so short (28.5"!) that it actually is middier than a typical 30-32" short scale. It even comes in a 5-string if that's the way I want to go in the end.

I love my RG655 and I have seen it around $650-700 mint in some extremes. I got it new for $800 while the price in GC is $1199.

If you are careful and do your homework you can score really good deals.
eBay, GC used and Reverb are very good places to look for quality guitars within a limited budget.

Does anyone know where i can cop an Infanem Second Voice Deluxe? Supposedly they're not in production anymore but is there a good place to browse for used pedals? Are there any good alternatives to the Second Voise Deluxe?
http://www.infanem.com/secondvoice/

I'm looking to buy my first pedal and this is the most interesting one rec'ed to me so far. Gonna be playing bass guitar as a lead and make some noise rock, post-punk, and synth pop type stuff with my friend on drums and synths.

Also does anyone have any suggestions for a good looping pedal? The more loops the better but i dont exactly have a ton of money to drop.

It even has CV outputs. I mean that's neat and all, but do you have modular gear to take advantage of that?

http://sys.4chan.org/derefer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.infanem.com%2Fsecondvoice%2F

I dont necessarily care if it's analog as long as it can get me some nice sounds.
>>
>>60575781
Classic pedals are: RV-3, DD-3, EH Big Muff, Proco Rat, and a decent multieffect would be great but not essential. Good reverb and delay is pretty much essential, once you have those you dont really need anything else. This is what most known shoegaze bands use. However there are tons of pedals that do similar jobs that would work just as well. I prefer Fender Twin Reverbs for amps because it's a really good amp to build a sound on, even the new ones are quite good, they tend to take pedals really well. I play shoegaze on a Gibson The Paul '68, which still is a really good guitar for the money, however it doesnt have tremolo.

If you want synth sounds on a budget I would check out the EHX microsynth
>>
>>60580452
actually that is a synth pedal you are hearing. yeah it does sound like that.
>>
>>60580292
check on reverb, com for secondhand pedals, there a couple infanem second voice on there right now, just not the deluxe. you can use an expression pedal in the cv jack, this will allow you to change the range knob in real time while you are playing. only an idiot would think a cv jack was complicated lel.
>>
>>60579850
I'm not actually a shoegazer. From reading this thread, though, I have noticed that they don't like to be pinned down with specifics... scales, chords, etc. The concensus seems to be that what goes into the pedal is not as important as what comes out because the latter bears only a faint resemblance to the former in many instances. I could be wrong. Good luck with your non-gazing shoegaze.

Hey everyone

I'm on my summer holidays and I took my guitar in to get fixed up today because I want to do something productive with my time
I haven't got guitar lessons for probably seven years now. I had a really great teacher who taught me scales and the basis of improvisation so I remember most of that

How do I teach myself? What is the best way about going about it?
I really like shoegaze and post rock and I think those two are probably going to be the biggest influences for me when it comes to making music.

At the music store in town today, they had the DD-500 a hundred dollars off for christmas, I'm thinking of buying it because I don't own any pedals. Is this a good start for post rock/shoegazey sounds?

I own a Epiphone G400 and a Roland Cube 15x
Please reply.

Obviously you can get some synthy pitch sounds out of it but isn't going to sound anything like that moog demo on guitar.

Here's the more basic model and what it sounds like through a guitar. I wouldn't want that guy to think he will be getting pure perfectly tracked synth tones from it.

No direct experience with that particular pedal but I've owned several Earthquaker pedals and wound up selling or trading them. Didn't care at all for their fuzz pedals, they are just clones of vintage fuzz circuits but they just sound too modern and clean if that makes any sense. Liked their modulation pedals better but there are just better options out there, if not at that low of a price. The tentacle is just an octave up, I'm sure it sounds fine. The malekko helium is one of the octave up pedals that i've kept, lots of variety and tweakability and they can be found for like 100$ and less on reverb.com and pedal forum b/s/t.

>>60575056
P-basses can literally do anything. I use mine for freelance session work and gigs when I am not using my upright and no one ever complains that it sounds out of place playing anything from jazz, country, metal, fusion and hybrids of everything in between. Don't think too much when it comes to options in bass tone because as long as it produces a big sound that sounds nice, it's ok. No one cares but you and the other bassist in the room.
>>
>>60580845
woop I meant the malekko chaos
https://malekkoheavyindustry.com/product/chaos/
both of those pedals are pretty cool clones of vintage octave pedals and sorta compliment each other as the originals were designed to be used together.

>>60580718
ok now make a demo of just your guitar signal straight into the pedal and try to get perfect synth tones like in the moog demo.

>>60580895

I know fuck all about effects
When I used to live at home I got this USB connector thing for my guitar off the internet for like, $15 and I downloaded an effects program

problem was my shitty laptop couldn't buffer it in time so it was always delayed. I want to start building up a badass pedal setup
that same usb connector should work good with my new pc though

are hardware effects better than software (ie PC programs)
also should I start tripping in these threads
I've never done it before but if gg threads are common here it might be okay
>>
>>60580924
>are hardware effects better than software
not necessarily, just depends on how you want to use them really. that dd-500 is a pretty deep pedal thats going to give you alot of control over the parameters and how you interact with the pedal. i wouldn't expect it to be a plug and play effect, but one where you have to spend alot of time going through the menus and making adjustments to get it set up to where it is actually doing the interesting things its probably capable of. If you don't have any idea what those interesting things are you might not want to get such an ambitious pedal?

Holy shit you're autistic (as if that wasn't already apparent)

The guy that originally posted the link said it was going to be his first pedal and he posted a link to a synth demo, it's reasonable to think a beginner may have expected it to sound that way on a guitar/bass.
>>
>>60580924
If you want it, go for it - it looks a killer pedal.

I'm thinking about buying one of these, because I'm in the market for a new bass. Is this a good idea? If not, is there a better option? I play a little of everything, so an all-purpose bass is what I'm looking for.
>>
>>60581816
Would be nice to have in a collection, but not that great as an only bass.
>>
>>60581816
The problem with basses with small bodies is that you can't rest your hand as well as on a normal bass, I'd try it before buying it.

If you want an all purpose bass, I'd recommend an Ibanez. Or a warwick if you want to destroy your spine.

Yo guys, what's a good starter pedal for a bass guitar? Considering getting one. I know most pedals don't come cheap, but I was hoping to get something relatively good for my money. I also really like Dead Meadow so maybe a sound like that?
>>
>>60584408
Go for either a preamp or a compressor for your first pedal. You'll get more control over the heart of your tone that way. Effects should come second, after you develop your essential sound.
>>
>>60583682
thats a fun pedal, make sure you don't hit it with a hot signal or line level or you're likely to damage it and have problems getting to unity gain.
>>
Any thoughts on using a Mustang for math/post-rock?
>>
>>60584839
go for it if you like the looks/feel. the idea that a certain brand or model is needed to play a certain type of music is ridiculous
>>
>>60584769
What would you consider a hot signal?

I planned on running an Audible Disease CN-2 (very loud pedal) and a Strymon BlueSky into it.

Guitar and contact mic as sources.
>>
Should I stop playing sitted and start playing with a strap? Any benefits from that?

Also, how do I improve my "consistency" ? I really have a hard time playing without errors, I have decent technical skills, and I'm always working on that but I can't even think on recording a cover or something because I always make dumb mistakes. Been playing for, around 6 years approximately.
>>
>>60584902
well I've had one for a really long time and I've never had any issues with any of the fuzz pedals I've stacked it with, but a number of people have complained that running a fuzz pedal into theirs damaged it...i've chatted with enough people that have had it happen that I don't use mine with my synth/line level gear. I would just make sure whatever pedal you are stacking into the front of the possessed is at unity gain to be safe. you should be able to get unity gain from the possessed at noon on the volume, if its been damaged you have to crank the volume up...this is how you know if your unit has been damaged if you bought it secondhand etc.
>>
>>60584909
>Should I stop playing sitted and start playing with a strap? Any benefits from that?

I play a lot sitting down, mainly acoustic guitars, since for a long time I didn't really have a strap.

Standing up I have a little more difficulty, but much less when using an electric guitar.
>>
>>60585001
that's good advice, thanks.
>>
>>60584408
Dead Meadow guitar player uses Big Muff stacked with a Ratt. Not sure what bass player uses other than Orange Amps and Ric Bass. That whole genre is about having a heavy fuzz tone so maybe look at something like a Malekko Brassmaster. It has a clean blend so you can mix your clean tone with the fuzz tone, this is pretty essential for a bass player as it lets you keep the low end. Sometimes a fuzz on bass will eat up some of the low frequencies, so whatever you get make sure it has a clean blend. Smallsound/Bigsound make really great pedals like their Buzz, their whole line up is popular with bass players.
>>
>>60584909
sounds like you dont play gigs so why bother standing?

practice
>>
>>60585314

No, I don't, but that's why. I was curious if I could improve something by standing up. It's just that I practice a lot but I feel that I have been progressing too slowly.

>>
>>60585059

I think I'm just going to try leaving my electric unplugged and play it while standing / walking around.

The thing with gigs that I have trouble with is standing still, I tend to move around and this doesn't work well when I have a mic in front of me.
>>
I recently got my first bass but the strings feel a bit too high, it's more difficult to play than it should be and there's quite a lot of buzz. I have no experience at all with guitar or bass maintenance and I'm scared I'll fuck up the neck or something. Should I just man up and try to fix it up myself or have a professional who knows their shit do it for me?
>>
>>60585498
you might as well have it done right, then you will know what a properly set up instrument looks/feels like.
>>
>>60585528
I have played on other peoples basses before buying my own so I know what it's supposed to look and feel like, I just don't know how to do it myself and with no experience I don't want to potentially ruin the bass
>>
>>60585587
well, its not that hard to do at all. it would be far harder to damage the bass. just find a good youtube demo video and take your time.
>>
>>60574245
>being this assblasted over cosmetic damage to a guitar

It doesn't affect the sound you retard so why care?
>>
>>60585625
>take your time.
This is the key to setup an instrument. Don't be afraid of taking a lot of time, and don't force anything, as long as you respect those two rules it should be good.
If you want to go full autismo you can even write down the number of 1/4ths of turns you made with the truss rod or the bridge saddles.

It's a Fender Pawn Shop Mustang. It outputs so much signal that most effects and amps distort, even if I turn down everything. I have to run my interface at Line Level, rather then instrument level. And there's no top end.

I think if you want a soloing instrument it's probably not the best idea, unless you wanna stack EQ pedals, or just turn up and block out everything else. But, in terms of being a typical supporting instrument, it's great. Takes up alot of the low end, and almost sounds like an upright because I have Flats on it.

Personally I'm not ever happy with low end Ibanez Basses; they don't have the depth I want. I feel it's like comparing a plastic icecream tub to a kick drum. But, I haven't played that one, so I can't say for sure. Have you considered the 6 string basses that are tuned E-E? I think there's an Ibanez one, and also the Fender/Squire Bass IV. I think Schecter and Ernie Ball do them too. I've played the Squire one, and it doesn't really feel or sound like a bass, but it's easy to move around the fretboard, and it cuts through, which is probably what you want?
>>
>>60576280
>5string shortscale
The low B string is going to sound like ass. You're trading off a easeness to play for sound quality. As a guitarist, the regular SR 5 strings don't feel hard to play on, even the 6 string models aren't that disturbing.

>>60585830

Ah like that, yeah I got mine on a board. Just plug in power, 3 cables in the amp and 1 cable in my guitar and ready to go. Literally takes 1 minute.
Always check my patch cables before a show and keep spares in my case.

Is this okay for a poorfag noob? I've been wanting to learn for a year now and I've read the Justin guitar like ten times. I know I'll have to buy twice

Go ahead pal, if you are aware that you will eventually have to move to a better guitar, then there's no better starting time than now.

Use my coupon here for $10 credit. Unless some other fa/gg/ already used it and didn't say anything.
