Well the first thing that comes to mind is Medicine - The Buried Life. Heavier on the rhythm section than most shoegaze and the guitarist got his sound by running his guitar through a 4 track tape recorder. It sounds really harsh but it's somehow really cool and enjoyable. ANd the baseline rocks.
