The M6 treated Sunset in RR like they were her keeper and not her friend; they didn't include her in anything they did until she included herself, the band being a clear example of this, and even Twilight didn't actually expect that she would change judging from how she pulled back when Sunset offered to help her up off of the ground
Sunset did everything meaningful in RR; she identified the villains' use of dark magic, she contacted Twilight with HER magic book, she was the only one levelheaded enough to stop everyone from acting like fucking retards and feeding the villains instead of trying to stop them, and she's the one who had to save them because they were too weak on their own
