You have no experience in the music industry. So I would expect that response, so let me explain.
Most singers need to be able to project with a variety of styles like, musical, opera, pop, country, soul, gospel, blues, rock, metal, and even classical (Lena's in Broadway so she'd have to keep her projection). If you don't project, then your voice doesn't carry from one side of the venue to the other. And if that's the case, you'd have to turn up the mics to level out the differences so that the singer's voice does carry over (or use tracks). And even then, there's a disparity between the vocals, the background vocals, the musicians, the monitors, the speakers, etc.
Basically every vocalist has to be able to carry their own weight and parts, otherwise the songs in such a setting would sound pasty thin for the venue (which from the animatic is abig ass concert hall).
You can sing on half-volume in studio so that you don't blow out the mics (even then, the gains can be adjusted). But walk on an open air stage, or a concert theater for a broadway show and try to sing at normal volume...
...see how quick your ass get fired from that gig.
