Kind of. I think of the body more as a bean than anything. There's no "one way" to construct a subject with drawing. You can use shapes, a skeleton, very rough gesture, or forms. Personally I use rough lines combined with gesture then work out the forms of the body. Figure/gesture drawing from models helps tremendously with learning how to recognize form.
