***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Can someone explain this to me. What am I looking at in this pic? What are they hoping to accomplish?

A more realistic eye with what looks like some sort of plastic gem as the actual eye. The oob thunderbolt Zaku I just has a sticker

Movable and better looking monoeye.

Are the slim jaw gundam planet cutters worth the extra cost and waiting for restock or should I just get the 35 dollar ones?

They're just tamiya side cutters, the nippers don't matter too much unless you're going into the high end ones. Get whatever is available to you at a decent price.
>>
>>13615397
I could get the slim jaw ones for 20 dollars but I don't know if I should go all out for the 35 dollar ones. I know there's ones that go for $100, but I'd rather spend that on a couple MG's or a half dozen HG's at that point.

Give it to me straight /m/en, how 'playable' are the MGs and 1/100s?

Playable in the sense that it can withstand multiple pose changes.

I've mainly done HGs and they're pretty cool to play with. RGs however make me really afraid that I'll pop off an armor piece or mess up an inner frame part if I even look at it wrong.

God help my wallet if there will be an RG Unicorn in the future

>>
>>13615435
Well according to some anons when the GP ($35) ones came out, it created less stress marks than the standard tamiya sharp cutters. You really only need a super clean cut if you want to speed through the snap-fitting, alternatively you can literally use nail clippers if you cut far away enough from the piece and sand down the gate.
Basically pay what you want and the quality of the nippers will directly correlate to the speed at which you get pieces off runners and into a presentable condition.

>>13615455
Depends on the kit, the MG Unicorn is fucking shit to actually pose in destroy mode and it almost a grenade but conversely the MG Astray red frame is actually pretty rock solid in terms of poseability.

Anyone know how well it goes together?
>>
>>13615479
poorly
>>
>>13615479
It looks pretty awkward if you just snap fit it, but if you paint/use markers and a relatively simple method to do the eyebrows it looks decent.
>>
>>13615464
>the MG Unicorn is fucking shit to actually pose in destroy mode and it almost a grenade
I don't get this every time I see someone say it. I have the MG Unicorn, I transform that fucker all the time and it's still perfectly fine, nothing broken, nothing worn, nothing loose.
Hell, the articulation isn't that bad either and I see people complain about that a lot too. Sure it's not 180 knees and elbows but you can still get some good poses out of it.

Rant aside
>>13615455
It definitely does depend on the kit. I think most modern MGs are fine, I have 11 MGs that I repose every few weeks and they're all still perfectly fine.
I've heard late UC MGs are kind of flimsy though.
>>
>>13615479
>Now I feel like I missed out on something interesting in TRY.
You didn't, but there's like four or five good episodes in Try and the final episode is probably the best. Super Fumina is a ridiculous joke that got sold as a real product because waifu bucks and sure why not.

I like the Nu Gundam's design, but I hate the funnels. They just seem so weird and protruding out of its back.

What's a good Nu Gundam variant I can make?
>>
>>13615565
One where you just have them deployed?
They are what make it unique though but you could just simply leave them off

You can leave it funnel-less (it deployed as such in the movie, not to mention the last fistfight with Sazabi) and/or give it a different color scheme. or you can go full Vrabe and scratchbuild the Mercury Rev/s
>>
I feel the opposite way about RGs vs HGs anyway, started with RGs and my HG Airmaster feels way too fiddly to mess with. Also pops its arms off a lot.
>>
>>13615327
>>13615385
I was more or less trying to replicate the aesthetic of the MG 2.0's inner workings, but at a smaller scale.
>>
>>13615697

Also I suspect with a little effort you can make it work like the 2.0.

Good opinion. This should be the answer whenever anons ask about nippers.

>>13615455
Quite. But as with everything if you pose them too much the joint will loosen over time. I notice it's mostly the plastic on plastic joints on mine but a coat of clear will fix them up.

Extreme Blast/HD Color/Titanium Finish/Whatever. A decent amount of MGs have a special edition, usually including chrome parts. Don’t get these. Unless a kit is designed to be chrome (like the Hyaku Shiki), any sort of metallic version is going to look very bad because it’s just the normal runners with a chrome paint job. So when you cut the parts off, there will be very noticeable nubs

>watch gundam build fighter
>remember all the fun times I had building kits with my mother and father

Is it awful that it took me till I became an adult to pick up this hobby again?
I've never got into air brushing and our models came out bad with the lack of sanding.

But seeing this thread on /m/ makes me very happy to see people taking this hobby serious.

I've been reading guides and lurking around for a week before posting.

so my question is what is the best air brushing kit $200 can afford?
I wanted a machine that fills the air so I wouldn't need to buy cans or anything later.

I want to learn airbrushing before moving ahead and buying buying a gunpla kit.
>>
>>13617003
You will essentially need models to learn airbrushing because you have to learn about priming, how the paint goes on, etc. Use cheap HG kits or No Grades.

As for airbrush, it depends what paint you want to use. Some only spray acrylic, others can spray anything.
>>
>>13617003

I got an iwata HP-CS and a paasche D3000R compressor and am very happy with both, having an air tank is very nice because it evens the pressure of the air out and you don't have to keep it running constantly

be aware that the supplies are going to cost much more than you expect, you are going to need new paints, thinners, cleaning supplies depending on what you use, etc. It's much more than just the hardware.
>>
>>13617018
The ones that can spray anything would be the best ones for me.
Since I'm only funding my airbrush once for a long time.

>>

kits at conventions are generally more expensive anyway, boxes that look fake if they are white and only one other color may be a P-bandai kit which is only offered through bandai's Japan-only site, so they will be much more expensive. Kill yourself, why do the vehement SD defenders argue like they have no brain and can only nitpick at everything since their own argument is shit?
The standard SD kit is comparable to a cheap toy since they often revolve around the gimmick that they're cute. Otherwise there is no other merit to the models, they possess poor articulation compared to other gunpla lines, color separation varies vastly from kit to kit, stickers out the ass to make up for said lack of separation on those kits and gaudy gold/clear pieces that seem like some 9 year old stuck them on because they look cool.

I never brought up that the idea that the inherent "kiddieness" was bad, just the execution of the models themselves. I enjoy the designs on some of the original kits but most of the time it's not worth the effort I'd have to spend masking off parts and painting.

>>13618079
Because the reflective surface of the chrome does not match the aesthetics of the rest of the kit as in the fact that one piece simply stands out far more than it would if used with actual brass or steel. The Knight gundams do it well since the entire kit is chromed. Shit even the Zero gundam that got posted earlier had a clear shoulder that even bandai decided looked like shit and just painted it a flat color.

>>13618108
>kit you can't paint because it's all chrome
The Command gundam needs quite a bit of masking for the rifle along with the rivets though those can be fixed with a reverse wash but otherwise you picked a design that is basically 80% one color.
Strike ryubi has stickers for the fucking waist and the v-fin/jewel are one piece and require a sticker, this has literally never been done in any HG's past the release of the ryubi. That and the fact that chest vents are always separate pieces rather than the stickers that are used here.
Musha gundam has a shit load of rounded bits that are molded as a single piece with another part of armor, this is barely comparable to verniers on thunderbolt kits but isn't the same due to the scale. That being said, it doesn't even include stickers for all of them. The naginata and katana are not molded into blade and handle and bandai expect you to use stickers for the naginata. Hell, even the hands are one piece and you'd have to use stickers to make it look accurate to the artwork.

Some stuff non-related to the head to take note of.

>Tall as fuck for an HG
>Hands are pegs in a round polycap instead of regular balljoints.
>The headband and apron are that rubber stuff like on patlabor MG.
>Back heavy with small feet so it doesn't really balance on its own....
>....but it comes with a stand.
>All the pink on the shorts are stickers and will otherwise require paint.
>The wrist gatlings do not have gatlings to put in them like the the cardigan kit (The little gatlings it comes with are leftover from the cardigan/powered arms runners and don't actually fit without modding).
>Ankle range is basically non-existant thanks to the ankle armor inhibiting it.

That said, it was actually a really fun build. A lot of different and experimental feeling engineering in the kit, some of which worked well and some that didn't. I wouldn't mind seeing them learn from this and take another crack at the MS girl thing again.

As for issues of the head, they've been noted quite a bit in previous threads. The stickers are terrible, The clear parts in the eyes give them a sunken look (There is actually a super easy fix for that), they went with more doll-like facial sculpt rather than lineart accurate, and the hair has a big hollow gap in it that will require putty to fill it in.

R-Gyagya with Sinanju shields; would this work? It would be symmetrical with the gun binders on its shoulders. Also looking for maybe a different Zeek head but I can't decide on either an actual Grand head or something from the Zaku family tree.

Alternarively, huge claws like Banshee Gundam's mounted as extra arms, and two swords or beam sabers in normal hands. Does that sound cool?

He's asking if it is bigger than the old 1/144 from the early 90s, and yes it is taller. The hguc is slightly taller than it should be. This was noted at its release by a lot of people.

>>13618795
It won't without modding actually. The hguc victory uses that polycap balljoint for the waist to pelvis connection while the zeta uses a thick peg as was the standard at the time of its release.

The AGP didn't make everything compatible (even within the agp releases there are some that aren't with each other). It was just a marketing gimmick for pumping out the last few leads in modern HG form with their new smaller polycap tree.
>>
>>13617138
As long as it says Bandai on the box you should be fine

>>13618860
I meant size wise. Of course he'll need modding, but other than changing the connection, it should look exactly like his picture, correct?
