Yeah, the characters were really well done but fuck to hell hat gameplay. You remember those moments where they would literally spawn enemies infront of you, but make it look at if they came crashing through some area? One that really comes to mind is the sniper battle, where you have to make it to the sniper's nest in the house down the street. You bob and weave through houses and enemies will literally spawn as you get near other buildings instead of already being placed there. It basically forced you into unnecessary combat.

And as an mlg otaku gamer girl, I prefer to play on hard difficulty in games, and in the last of us your only option of survival in many situations is to stealth it, otherwise you can't survive.
Was really tedious in a lot of parts.
Also, thinking back, for the time I'm pretty sure Ellie as an AI companion was pretty good and helped to keep the immersion during the ladder simulator segments.

Beating games on the hardest difficulty is usually gratifying enough for me.
But, something I've noticed in quite a few games is that they're not always well optimized for their own higher difficulties.
But don't get me started on the way game difficulties are implemented...

Usually it'll just be enemies being sponges which makes them a chore to fight, not a challenge or they'll just make the A.I. ridiculously psychic (hey, like the Last of Us..). I fucking hate Bethesda's way of making their games difficult. Again, going back to the bullet sponges. Makes shit real damn tedious once you get to a certain level, especially in their games where they stupidly make everything level with you since Oblivion.

The series that handles difficulty the best in my opinion, would have to be the souls series.
While sure, the games are known for their difficulty, but on a base level, they don't rely on cheap methods to increase the challenge, it's fair.
But there are multiple ways /in game/ to alter the difficulty in either direction in lieu of sliders or preset changes to the game.
I'd love to see more creative methods for handling difficulty in the future.
I also like the harcore survival mods for New Vegas and Skyrim that implement gameplay changes instead of artificially inflating enemy HP and damage.
