Is it just me, or everywhere around the world the attitude toward women/lesbians is way softer than to males/gays? For example in my slavshit country it's acceptable for women to hug and hold hands in public, while for men its completely unacceptable, you may be bashed or worse for that (actually kind of happened to me, I'm way more cautious now).

I wasn't. I was differentiating cultural appropriation from actually going and learning about something and then hiring people who taught you about it. It was one aspect of the distinction among others. She had personal contact with the practitioners, she didn't own the practitioners to begin with (ie Harlem was not a British colony at that point), she actually paid them money once she decided she wanted more of their practice, the practice itself was something which could be traded for money and not some kind of untainted sacred ritual. Also, the LGBT community isn't a hivemind, and this is obviously as true in this case as in any others.
