I take horseback riding lessons, but it is only once a week, I wish I could do it more often (the lessons are too expensive). I'm also taking acoustic guitar classes, but I really suck.

Othen than that I spend the whole day on the computer, mostly listening to music, playing a couple of games, reading yuri fanfic and looking at yuri fanart.

Not to steal her thunder or anything, but, I interned one summer at a lab at a university with a top 10 biology program. The grad students there were smart, but not geniuses. They're people just like everyone else!

It's kinda frustrating that there's a stereotype that you have to be a genius to do science, or computers or math. It keeps people from exploring things that they might enjoy and be good at.

>>
>>5773371
I can understand that I suppose but I also am very dumb I think. I failed a grade once and got held back.

Also I can barely spell or do math.

Please tell me college is a lot more about working hard than being smart.

>>5773388
That is really cool, I'm pretty jealous of the neat stuff you seem to be capable of.
>>
>>5773123
The average lesbian is smarter than the average straight girl so yes, we probably have a wider variety of interests.
>>
>>5773427
>college

I majored in computer science. You absolutely do need a certain level of intelligence in order to succeed in STEM fields, but probably not as high as some people think. Where exactly that threshold is, I don't know. To some extent, you can make up for being less smart by working harder, but I don't know how much. To be honest, I think people tend to underestimate their intelligence and overestimate their work ethic.
>>
>>5773451
I would like to hear more about your theory.
Like is the work ethic thing a bad thing?
>>
>>5773421
How much time have you spent trying to learn quantum physics? And do you know the prerequisites to understand it, like classical mechanics, E&M, linear algebra, etc? If not, then it's no surprise that you can't understand it.

You're probably capable of understanding a lot more than you think. :)
>>
>>5773465
No no no, not at all, work ethic is an amazing thing and I wish I had more of it! I was sort of talking from my personal experience. Whenever I say I'll just "work really hard" on something, I usually end up falling through on the work ethic part. Maybe you're different. I'm just sort of saying... don't expect college to be a massive challenge that you have to work harder than other people at, you'll probably be smart enough to make it through.
>>
>>5773451
>>5773465
I think work ethic can be directly detrimental to your own interests. It's pretty clear that there is no direct connection between how hard someone works and how successful they are. There has to be a happy medium where you aren't killing yourself over a job, and you have enough to meet your own physical and emotional needs.
>>
>>5773290
No
>>
>>5773583
Then you're a gold star. Congrats.
>>
>>5773451
Well, I sure hope that I've underestimated myself a bit. I'm really nervous about finishing school this year and going to a college or something and being really alone.
>>
>>5773379
Get strong and live your dreams.
>>
>>5773629
My advice to you would be to choose something that you enjoy, for college or otherwise. Good grades and success feel pretty empty when you don't have even a small amount of passion or interest for what you're doing.
>>

>It's kinda frustrating that there's a stereotype that you have to be a genius to do science, or computers or math. It keeps people from exploring things that they might enjoy and be good at.
Any suggestions for science work that's good for stupid kids? I don't really like relying on the flexing of my brain (depression, ADD, and anorexia make my cognitive capabilities fluxuate a lot) but I really enjoy science.

I particularly enjoy behavioral neuroscience, and research about how mental illness works in the brain. I'm curious about learning more about the integration of mind and body (placebo effect, ethnomedicine, etc). How medicine effects the brain, body, and mind are very interesting too. Same with traumatic brain injury.
But I don't really want to be relied on to have big thoughts. Or to work with clients directly.

I like plugging in data and filling out forms. I'd make a good gopher as long as it pays okay.

What should I do? Where do I start?

>sorry to ask so much of you
>I just wanna be in the science or medical field without working hard
>and be paid enough to be a real adult

When will this end? Calculus can be taught to fucking CHILDREN, it's not hard at all, it does not requires the amount of abstraction to understand the 1000th dimension for fucks sake.
>>
>>5773746
Considering the fact that some people struggle tremendously with high school algebra, calculus would indeed be hard for those people.
>>
>>5773755
People struggle with high school algebra because the education system makes kids memorize a specific way of solving a set of specific equations, they do not teach them how anything works really. So it's natural that when they forget about that they begin to struggle in college again.

I was dating a terrible qt when I was 21. She was smart, she was driven, she was gorgeous, she made me feel both sane and adorable, and I was falling for her so hard that for the first time I was understanding love songs. The only problem was that she was 17, and while I had met her in an evening college course, she was still firmly in high school. Sometimes she would call me up late at night just so she could hear me, and if someone came in, she purposefully spoke loudly and clearly to them so I could hear her Spanish. I crush hard on polyglots. So whenever I saw her name on my phone I was gearing up for a heart-race and perhaps overeager in answering. This was my undoing.

I answered with pet names and a cheery voice. It was her dad, though, and he growled horribly at me for the next half hour. He threatened to go to the police. He called me scum, and a seductress, and a sinner. He said he would make sure I regretted this if I went any further, and my only hope was disappearing. I told him that I liked his daughter very much and wasn't going anywhere, and I'd love to see him get laughed out of a police station. I shouldn't have said that.

The next time I took her to see a movie, her dad comes whipping around the corner in his truck, and honking like he thought the noise would banish me back to hell. I could hear a string of angry syllables in Spanish spilling out of his frothy mouth like the screaming of a bush pig. He throws himself out of the vehicle, and starts waving around a revolver. I'm not keen to die, so I apologize to my girlfriend midstep in a dash away. And he's running after me, jeering, "You better run, you better weave bitch, if I catch you it's over!" He doesn't catch me because he's just some old asshole and I've got a fear like the devil's at my heels. Later that night my girlfriend calls me and breaks up with my by phone. I cried a lot. It was on speakerphone.

Joke's on him, though. I fucked his daughter for two more years in secret.
>>

And if anyone doubts that this happened, I would like to add that we were in Florida, and that should explain most everything.

>>5773775
Yeah, I had to take pre-algebra twice because I couldn't wrap my head around it. Calculus in my last year of high school was the only math I ever liked, because it finally made some fucking sense. It wasn't arbitrary nonsense. It linked together. We should be teaching that kind of thing alongside basic arithmetic to elementary school children, what good is waiting until the end for fundamentals?

Gladiator worked for warriors until the whiny bitch dps (typical underperformed that won't reroll: shadow priests, ret paladins, etc.) complained that a "tank" spec was outperforming them. Unfortunately, they will be removed alongside fist weavers in Legion, because nobody played either after blizzard made them unviable.

Death Knights are in a great place in pvp at the moment. They lack spammable incapacitating CC (fear, cyclone, sheep, monk thing) but with the chains of ice root talent, you can essentially dominate 3-4 people by balancing offensive and defensive cooldowns, because frost does a savage amount of damage. So much that I haven't been able to top it with anything but the short vendetta burst window for a mut rogue.

His hairline isn't just receding, it's very successfully running away from that disaster of a face.

Alright, so.
I don't want to be responsible for clients/patients one on one. I'd like to be kinda proud of what I'm doing or who I'm working for, knowing they're doing something good. I'd like my coworkers to be generally kind and forgiving. I'd like to make more than a couple thousand a month. I like it when my responsibilities are laid out with little guesswork, and don't mind repetition. I'd like hours that are the same week after week, with 40 or less hours (absolute ideally 20 hours). I want to leave work at work, and not be expected to do anything at home. I don't want a speed based job. I'd rather take extra time to do it well instead of getting it done now. I don't want mistakes to have a lot of consequence.

Is there something that does that with a cognitive neuroscience BA?
>>
>>5773493
Well its not like I saw it as a bad thing, just I was trying to do the math in my head. Does work ethic counter love of profession? I like my job, I literally spend all day fixing things, but I know I would Love my job if I was in a hospital, or learning more about coding.

>>5773514

Unfortunately, part time positions are very rare in STEM fields. The only position that sort of fits your criteria would be something like HR at a mental health facility. Depending on where you live, ~25,000 is reasonable to expect with a four year degree, unless the minimum wage is raised, which will put entry level 4 year degree positions somewhere in the mid 30,000s I imagine.

None of the stuff that you want is unreasonable, but in the current era of masochistic wage laborers, it is extremely rare to find any decent number of these in the same position.

I don't see how, at least I haven't seen a pic of a tranny using those sort of glasses that successfully made me question if that thing was a boy or a girl. I worry about HR since isn't that helping one on one with people? I don't know about that. If I was going to guess a job for me, I could see myself being a research jockey, but I have no idea what really goes into that.
I really appreciate your effort to listen to me.
>>
>>5773909
It really depends on the person. If it's something that you'd do for free, you're not really working for the money as much as the thing itself. Artistic/creative jobs seem to be much more satisfying/rewarding to expend extra effort in than the typical 9-5 well paying office job, for example.

I spend at least 30-40 hours per week working on music for free, if I were also able to get paid for it (television/film scoring) I wouldn't mind spending twice that, because it would manage to be simultaneously as enjoyable as a leisure activity, while also giving the relative "benefits" of wage-labor.

>I want to work 20 hours a week at 35 an hour

>I like it when my responsibilities are laid out with little guesswork
>I'd like hours that are the same week after week
>I want to leave work at work, and not be expected to do anything at home.
>I don't want a speed based job.
>I don't want mistakes to have a lot of consequence.
No such job exists in any field with any level of education or experience.

Hell, even bring down the wage. I just want to live in a not shitty apartment with one or two cats without roommates. That's my dream.
I currently leech off my parents rentfree and get paid $500-$1,000 a month depending on how the month went. I still have other bills I pay for like a car I bought in order to keep my job.
I do not like my financial situation. I would like to be comfortable. Not extravagant, just comfortable.

A car, solo apartment, and cats aren't too foolhardy of a request, right?

I also like Crisis 1 amd Warhead, as well as the futuristic CoDs because I have a thing for cyberpunk/Transhumanist fiction

I don't understand. Do you mean "neither minimal or predictable" or "predictable or not minimal but not both." Either way perhaps you could find a job in Europe (but not Germany). The work environment there seems generally closer to what you're looking for than the work environment in America.

Research assistent positions are easy enough to get if you have some interpersonal skills. They don't tend to pay above minimum wage in universities, in my experience. In a smallish town, you'll be able to get a job and an apartment, probably a car too. You probably won't enjoy the work, but that depends on what kind of person you are. There are plenty of safe neighborhoods in my town, even the poorest ones with the most welfare recipients (they aren't actually bad people) have little to no crime, while the student housing parts of town are rampant with theft and assault.

I played Dragon's Dogma on the 360 when it came out there but I haven't bought it for the pc yet, I don't really have any money ever. I've heard it looks really good and there is a lot of improvements to like the slow down big moves used to cause and stuff like enemies just loading in around you.

What was Stroustrup thinking? OK, so I wrote a polymorphic programming language that was just a translator. It translated one language into another, and you could overload existing syntax, and define new syntax. It was quite dangerous, but allowed the solving of a problem.

C++ combines the high level brain ouch of Java with the low level brain ouch of C. It also lacks a standard library so i run smack into a library learning curve whenever i try and do anything. Templates are confusing and debugging them is even more confusing. There's a whole bunch of new features added recently like lambdas which make it really hard to read some code because i don't even know what the new feature is that's being used sometimes.

Basically I'm stupid so i work with python instead.

Folk researchers do alright when their books are in circuit or grants are paying out, and you can define your hours entirely if you're a professor of something obscure enough that's still somehow in demand. It's all about redefining the rules you live by and getting the leverage you need to make society adapt to you instead of the other way around. It's precisely because you don't care so much about it, that this is the only thing you care about right there. The reason why you feel inferior is because you don't have a dick. That's basically what I'm saying. And you think females are inferior, mentally or anything else-ly because they don't have one. That's very precisely how displacement works.
But I know you won't believe in it so yeah, no need to insult me or whatever, I'm not telling you to believe me.

Oh yeah, you're pretty stupid. I don't actually consider trannies superior to females solely because they have a dick.

Ah, I guess it had to come out.
>I don't actually consider trannies superior to females solely because they have a dick.
The penis envy developed/was repressed when you discovered the difference between men and women, you were probably very young, like 2 or 3 years old.
What you learned/thought about penises after you repressed the thought of penis envy doesn't matter. It's fucking sealed. And I'm a lesbian too so yeah. Don't think I'm a man or a MAAB trying to convince you penises are the shit.
>>
>>5774538
Yeah that's what everyone say and also what no one tries to explain why.
I know his work sounds really fucked up when you look at it without knowing what it's about.
I'm really into Freud I read all his damn books so if yo saying some of what he said was plain bullshit come at me bruh.

Surely you must admit that his conclusions are occasionally absurd. He was demonstrably right about some things, but his whole fantastical construction of the hierarchy of family and sex is delusional.
>>

Naw, I don't like starting thread wars/crossing threads

Nice picture.
>I don't have penis envy at all.
Congrat-fucking-ulation.
The repression worked perfectly normally.
If youfelt penis envy, the day you'll feel penis envy. It'll mean you're mentally sick/hypnotised/having a very bad dream.
Anyway, just remember we are not inferior. There is just this thing into us that drags us into feeling like we are, but it just is a dumb misunderstanding.

I don't agree a 100% with him. He was from the 19th century after all, world changed.
>antastical construction of the hierarchy of family and sex is delusional.
That's basically the core of what he worked on.
And I don't think it is at all, except for what he thought about masturbation (that it was some sick shit)

You won't. As you won't ever feel the need to fuck your parents. this is called being a civilized adult with correctly repressed childhood traumas.

I'd be straight if I could. Men are stupid and easily manipulated, and I'd have much more common dating prospects. Plus they could get me pregnant and I have a powerful maternal instinct. I was dealt a pretty shitty hand.

At least there's orgasms.

It's pseudoscience. The logic goes in a circle, and there's no internal validity or external verifiability. It has never successfully predicted behavior, and even Freud's contemporaries regularly and routinely pointed out the flaws in his research, the holes in his arguments, and the immoral behavior he was participating in with his clients. It's telling that most of Freud's theories were copped wholesale from his first patient's own mouth: a rich hypochondriac with nothing better to do with her time than to make up wild theories.

There are entire courses about how Freud was wrong and people need to stop talking about him like he founded or expanded anything. I could give you a book right now: one you could pirate from IRC if you do a bare minimum of googling about bookz.

It's called Unauthorized Freud. Read it. Stop being such a rube.

Name two things that Freud was right about. That's a very low bar. Just two of his theories, that came from his idiot mind, that panned out until modern day.
>>
>>5774656
I don't know that any of his theories still hold full validity to this day. I was specifically talking about his observations on human behavior, that hadn't really been written about up to that point.
>>
>>5774651
>It's pseudoscience. The logic goes in a circle, and there's no internal validity or external verifiability.
I'm perfectly aware of that.
>his first patient's own mouth
Yeah, some of his patients really took his words badly, and they talked shit about him. He talks about it in his books.
>There are entire courses about
I know right. There is even entire industries about how things that will kill us are presented as life saving.
And of course everyone can say anything about it since it's not scientifically demonstrable. It's close to a belief, I'm aware of that. But I'm not just "believing" in it. Psychoanalysis has a proven efficiency, and has way bigger results than any other psychological treatment on the long-term.
>Unauthorized Freud
I'll probably read it if I find it. There is a lot of books that shit on Freud anyway. It's not the only one.

It doesn't shit on Freud. It provides a clinical, step-by-step explanation of why his theories are bunk, and it uses Freudian writings to prove it. It's clinical, direct, and salient.

Yes they do. You really need to get outside of your house and get a hobby that DOES something instead of CONSUMING something. You're getting stupid in isolation.

uuuh something like that, I don't see how girls would be attracted to me, but they are. I would be lying if I said I didn't like it or use it to my advantage. But just because I am a stud doesn't mean I'm attracted to anything that has to do with studs.
I think I'm just weird that way.
