They're about equal in my experience. I'd go with whichever you can get for cheaper; you'd be satisfied with either. I do think the Vortex is a little more compact and lighter, but I'm too lazy to double check that right now.

I recommend the ADM scout over the recon. It only had one throw lever (vs the Recon's 2 levers) so it's lighter and cheaper. You don't need the second lever on a 4x optic.

The TA01 is my favorite ACOG for a carbine. Good reticle, no fiber optic daytime bloom, enough energy in the tritium to take care of low light/no light while maintaining very precise markings/crosshairs.
