Bump for suggestions.

I cannot decide for the life of what rail I want for the SPR build I'm doing.

Thinking about a MI G3 LW Mlok.

Is mlok any good? How is it compared to keymod? I have experience with keymod and quads. What other mlok rails should I look into?

Also, wasn't there a google docs spreadsheet going around that had specs of all different kinds of rails so you could easily compare?

I went to re sight my red dot in at 50 yards today and got a group I was okay with (2.5 moa) and then moved on to the iron sights. I mbus pros are backwards in the fact that you have to turn the dial a different direction than specified to get the post to raise and lower. I also fucking suck at shooting groups but am the best when it comes to hitting cans or bottles in one shot and definitely the best when it comes to running tacticool drills. Fuck life.

So keymod vs m-lok, what are the pros and cons to each? I see people posting anecdotal evidence claiming keymod is weaker but I've also heard that's from manufacturers making things out of spec and people bolting it on to the rail without examining how it actually mates together.

M-Lok is supposedly easier to manufacture and while that itself doesn't make it superior I don't see the benefit of keymod with how complex it is from a manufacturing standpoint.

I hear people parrot "hurr muh repeatable mounting it goes in the exact same place every time!" but the only thing I see people mounting with either system are lights. Maybe a bi-pod with an adapter but its mainly lights. Sights/optics/scopes are still up top on a pic rail.

Why is taking your light off and then putting it back on "exactly" where you had it before important? It seems that again with lights and grips m-lok gets the job done.

Strength of the lock up can be important though and while I'm familiar with how keymod does it WHEN the mounting hardware is done correctly I can't say I know how strong M-Lok is.

So which is stronger?

Seems like M-Lok is lighter in a SIMILAR DESIGN than keymod but maybe keymods design allows it to be lighter by having handguard designs that m-lok can't have due to the m-lok shape?

What is the industry moving to?
>>
>>30322476
>wants to get an ar if/before they get banned.

Not going to happen unless you live in a libshit state and even then you probably already have an AWB

>What is a good entry level gun that you would recommend?

Do you want a basic m4 clone?
Do you have any interest in assembling one?
What is your budget?
>>
>>30322495
>What is the industry moving to?
MLOK, it's cheaper to manufacture.
>>
>>30322495
>So keymod vs m-lok, what are the pros and cons to each?

Keymod looks like shelving dicks and is rapidly being beaten out of the market by mlok

Mlok is being bought at 3 times the rate keymod is

Mlok has kinetic development group making quick detach/attach accessories/rails

Mlok is cheaper
>>
>>30322495
Mlok and Keymod use basically the same locking system (rectangular nut that turns sideways in a track). MLok uses a witness pin/stub to keep it from sliding back and forth, keymod (usually) just uses the friction of the clamping force.

MLok is stronger, by a decent margin.

All else being equal (length and OD of handguard), an MLok rail will be marginally lighter than a keymod rail because it removes more material from the rail. For an example, the SMOS 13.75" rail is about an ounce lighter than the Noveske NSR 13.75" rail (which are both manufactured by SMOS, have the same ID and OD, use the same barrel nut, pretty much only difference is one's Mlok and one's keymod)

The market is moving to MLok because it has the biggest manufacturer behind it, it's objectively superior, it's (still) freely licensed, and it's easier to manufacture. This (free) licensing also enforces a quality standard, which is why you see hardly no chinkshit airsoft-tier parts available for Mlok but the market's flooded with crappy keymod stuff.

Basically the only thing keeping keymod from becoming obsolete is the fact that Mlok is actually licensed instead of being truly FOSS. Magpul doesn't (currently) charge for the license, though that could (potentially) change in the future if they really decide they absolutely need to shoot themselves in the dick, metaphorically.
>>
>>30322568
>keymod (usually) just uses the friction of the clamping force

Wrong. A locking tab is incorporated in the design itself. Go look at it for five seconds.

Funny you should say that. I have both keymod and mlok rails.

As far as keymod accessories I have everything from a GG&G handstop to the BCMGunfighter vfg and HS Thorntail light mount, and the only one of them to have a locking lug separate from the nut that actually secures it to the rail is the BCM vfg.

Rate my poorfag build? I sold my first AR for $800 that I paid about $650 to build, so I turned around and did this build that I am much happier with than what my first build was.

Anderson Lower
Anderson Upper
Anderson LPK and Buffer
SI Viper Stock
SI Polymer Dust Cover
SI Advanced Forward Assist
SI Enhanced Pistol Grip
SI Extended Latch Aluminum CH
PSA Premium BCG
Ballistic Advantage Mid Length 1:7 16" Barrel
SI Type 89 J-Comp
YHM Low Profile Gas Block
Mid Length Gas Tube
SI Curved Foregrip
Aero Precision MLOK Quantum 15" Hand Guard
SI MLOK Covers
Magpul MBUS Front and Rear sight

I think the total cost with everything shipped came to exactly $831.04. With the largest chunk of that being the barrel and hand guard which together cost like $236.

Could I have built a better rifle for this amount? I could have scaled it back and went with A2 flash hider, standard FA and dust cover, and such but that would have only trimmed off like $100 at most.

The buffer I got is the standard carbine buffer, would it be worthwhile to get a H2 buffer? It should cycle fine with the mid-length gas and everything, I'd think and would help to further kill all recoil along with the comp.

So far I'm pretty fond of the CFG in both appearances and the way it feels to manipulate the rifle with it.
>>
>>30322495
Keymod looks a shit

Probably too heavy. I like the old ones too but not the weight
>>
The reason I have keymod is that I am literally buy the rail for the price difference and just have both
MLulz isn't worth the extra 300 bucks to me
>>
>>30322657
Not really sure why you went with the SI dust cover when most places sell a complete metal dust cover assembly (cover, spring, rod, E-clips) for like $8 and a couple places have the complete assembly for $6.

The SI EPG is...meh. And overpriced, when things like the K2 exist for $20.

That's a damn good barrel, and I like the J-comp.

I don't understand the appeal of the SI "angled" forregrip that isn't angled and is basically a heavy, expensive handstop. The Magpul handstop kit would've served the same purpose for half the cost and a quarter of the weight.

Since they're not pictured I'm assuming the MBUS are the polymer ones? They work well and are quite durable but are bulky. Most people here will say MBUS Pro at the minimum, I personally don't care.

I don't know why you spent money on an "enhanced" forward assist, you'll never need it. I can see "aesthetic" being a reason, but not if you were trying to save money. Standard A2 forward assist assemblies are like $12 or you could've gotten a teardrop off amazon for $20.

My opinion is to stick with a standard carbine buffer and get an adjustable gas block. Getting it dialed in right with the lowest weight buffer will provide less felt recoil and somewhat less muzzle rise than trying to balance out an overgassed gun with a heavier buffer.
>>
>>30322678

Differences? I'll list the similarities instead:
1.) they both have a trigger

That's about it. The M240 FCG is basically a block of steel that dips down when you pull the trigger and lets the carrier fly forward.

I have another 2.3oz light buffer, I wonder if that will work better or if bolt bounce is even going to be a problem with 300blk...

Also, can you shoulder a "pistol" lower with a 16" length upper since its supposed to be a different class or whatever?

I'm unfamiliar with Wisco whitetails. What's the average weight of a "trophy" buck where you are?

I've hunted deer extensively on the east coast with 5.56, because a "trophy" buck would be at or under 200lbs. Now that I live in the midwest I feel it's a bit light, since trophy bucks can range from 250-350lbs.

Either way, there are quite a few good hunting rounds available for 5.56 that I would trust with anything but the truly massive corn-fed bruisers, and even then with judicious shot placement at close range they'd be fine.

I'm also an insufferable faggot and like to be different for the sake of being different.

I heard really good things about the barrel, so I'm pretty excited to try it out. I wanted to get a different twist rate because I don't shoot heavy ammo all that often, but when I saw this on sale I jumped the gun and bought it. It was actually the first part of the rifle i bought, before i ever even sold my other rifle because it was a good deal.

The top rail isn't that useful to me, opposite actually. I've got big hands and I always grip the rifle TOB to the point where my middle finger and thumb touch together at about 2 O'clock. Full top rails have always dug into my thumb uncomfortably. If the rail is so useful I can always attach one, that's the benefit of modularity.

I like the way my J-Comp looks paired with this setup. Different folks for different strokes.

mid length gas tube

some adjustable gas block(any suggestions?)

Just got done shooting my first AR, a .300 BLK, for the first time. I could usually pop off a few rounds before it would "click" and the cartridge would fail to fire. After this happened a few times, I noticed that the bolt wasn't quite closing when I'd release the bolt catch on occasion. Obviously, I did not shoot it in this position but I think it might be related to the failures.

New to semi-autos so I don't really understand what's going on. It does have lubrication. Can anyone recommend a fix or how to troubleshoot?

I don't own an AR-15; can it actually bruise your shoulder if you don't shoulder it right? My first gun was a Mosin with a metal buttplate and I never had that problem even when shooting incorrectly. A standard .223 or 5.56 AR shouldn't do that, right? I figure the guy intentionally lied to make himself look like more of a pussy, then he wrote a follow up article about how evil and sexist gun owners are, with a subtle plug for Hillary at the end.

Why he didn't get permabanned after the 8-10 times he got ban-evasion banned is beyond me.

Anon I know a considerable amount and generally I lurk at night to answer questions while the other trips are sleeping

It's interesting you complain about the lizards but negclect to mention the furious goat posting, or the overall saturation of bait and secret /pol/ threads on this board.

Pssssh

In front of the cylinder. It's a dan Wesson

>>30323892
That's actually interesting, i don't know why either
>>
>>30323888
Silly anon, you don't actually reload it. You fire the 6 shots in it and send it back to the factory.

I'm not talking about the board in talking about /arg/. If you think gun control threads belong on /pol/ you can kys.

heh, seems kinda weird place to put it. Wont that slow you down in reloading, unlike rugers where you just use both thumbs to push the button on the left and the cylinder on the right?
I guess if you're left handed, the Dan Wesson wouldn't be so bad.

Yes I did

They do. When literally 3 of every 4 threads for the last week has been about it (and functionally identical to boot), it's no longer relevant to the board and is literally just shitposting and spam.

>>30323930
It's a purpose built target gun. All DW revolvers are, not even just that model. Reload speed is just about the last thing to be worried about on one of those.
>>
>>30323930
Nah, doesn't slow me down one bit. It's unusual but functionally fine
