They must right? Since the AK-101 and 102 exist.

yes and no. i don't believe there were ever any factory-made bakelite mags in 5.56, but the east germans converted 5.45 mags to accept and feed 5.56.

No, the ak-101 and ak-102 were designed after the AK-74M. Russia switched completely to black polymer magazines by this time. There were never any factory made Bakelite magazines for the 100 series rifles.

I've got a couple of cool dudes in Hungary, Poland, and Serbia. The problem is the Form 6 process. I've been already caught twice in having unauthorized AOWs shipped to my address that were confiscated by customs, so I'd rather not get a felony. ATF puposely takes forever on Form 6s and will deny them for the most trivial reasons. Last time I heard a parts kit being denied, it was because they contained undemilled front trunnions from something COMPLETELY different from an AK.

Pic related is where they thought the trunnions were apart of.

What's the deal with the AK market right now?

Everyone is acting like they cost $500, and no one will offer anything but glocks to trade.

Did all of the American AK manufacturers kill the foreign AK market? I see C39's going for $500 almost daily.

Century "converted" some bakelites to .223. They allegedly re-profiled the interior and the feed lips. They did not, however, change the follower, so I can only load about 10 rds before they start fucking up.

Yes and no.

Yes, Century is reducing production of foreign AK builds simply to push their shitty American AKs on consumers since they get a higher dividend on the purchase.

No, the current geopolitical climate is hell. The Middle East is on fire, Ukraine is still relatively heated, and manufacturers are making guns to ship to other countries. They could give a rat's ass about cutting up a kit or making parts for the US if they can get more money selling complete pieces to nations at conflict.

RPK sized ones in 5.56 with 23in barrels were briefly imported before the great Clanking messed up Russian imports. I've only seen a handful sell and it's always been in the 2500+ range because it's a 100% Russian AK.

Its just the market change

American makers are producing rifles of equal or lower quality than Wasr-10s and charging 300 dollars more for the "made in america" label on it.

So foreign makers see then and charge more to make more money since the market has now shifted.

Soon AKs will be a specialty gun for no less than 800 bucks (if hillary doesnt get in that is)

Suck it up and buy one now.

I have a 1v, very nice rifle. Typical vepr quality.
But... I'd just get the mini and use it exactly as is on your picture if you want an actually useful gun and not just a range toy. RPKs are cool and all, but they're too heavy and not all that practical otherwise.
I guess it boils down to whether you want something practical above all else, or just a really cool toy.
>>30136371
Too bad, the 1v was one of the few impulse buys I've made in my life and I'm glad I did. They disappeared overnight and doubled in price shortly after.

Not exactly.
Century can't make their shit rifles for cheap like RomArm can, so they jacked up the price to make their rifles seem better.

In reality, they still get WASRs from Romania for ~$350 or less.

according to a german site, the Saiga 223 and the VEPR 1V have the same weight, 3,8kg

Do you know what mags are compatible with the 1V? Do they take Beryl mags? What about handguard and stock compatibility (as the 1V doesnt have a slant end like the normal VEPRs)?

What differences besides the thicker receiver and thicker barrel are there even, compared to a Saiga for instance?

>according to a german site, the Saiga 223 and the VEPR 1V have the same weight, 3,8kg
I don't see how that could possibly be true with the rpk version.
With the rpk, you are adding on 7" of barrel that's thicker than any of my 30cal rifles, and a bipod at the front which makes it more front heavy on top of that, worse yet if you have the bipod folded out while shooting from a standing position.
>Do you know what mags are compatible with the 1V?
Not very well other than the official molot 45rd and 30rd promags it came with. Bulgarians will NOT fit unless you file down the mag catch, I know that much. IIRC, I heard beryl mags fit fine, but don't take my word 100%.
>What differences besides the thicker receiver and thicker barrel
Other than the obvious cosmetic differences like different furniture, IDK that they're so much different. I could take out the bolt/carrier and slap it right into my bulgarian ak-74 if I wanted to.
>>
>>30136952
The RAS47 is garbage, along with most of what Century makes. But the C39's pretty great. About 5k rounds through it so far.

You got robbed then.
It's perfectly legal to import mags for personal use as long as it's less than $100 in wholesale value.

From someone else worried about importing mags:

>The process included me taking the cautionary step of corresponding with BATFE, and politely asking how we do this, especially if we break down the mags into a package of mag bodies and mag springs/hardware. Written answer to me was that no Form 6 is necessary if the wholesale value of the package is less than $100 and that the importation is for personal use, and not intended for immediate resale

Tough choice, not sure I can answer that for you.
For me, I'd definitely go between the 1v mini or the SAR. If your imported saigas actually come with all the ak-74 style trimmings like the SAR, then I'd have 0 issue with that too. I know euros can often get saigas like that even though we're stuck with butchered sporter saigas in the US.
I think the 1v mini is easily the toughest gun among them, but you'll never push it hard enough to matter. I value weight savings above something like that. And I'm sortof a sucker for the normal ak-74 looks with a 556 mag hanging out.

Anyone ever tried dyeing those desert sand arsenal stocks? I'd love a plum colored sidefolder.

You know they make actual plum sidefolding sets, right?

Ok.
I was referring to a stock set to swap out with the desert sand set.
It's probably easier to find a plum stock set, than the whole rifle already set up with plum furniture.

Alright, /akg/, onegun here. I am planning to build my armory in these next couple of years. I have a 'Five Gun Plan', and after I get a Colt™ brand AR-15®, I plan on getting an AK sometime after that. Right now I was looking at the Arsenal SAM7SF, but I have a question or two (and I better be getting some bacon for these).

What's up with the cleaning rod? I hear it comes with a shortened rod due to the way the stock latch spring needs some hand guard room, and that the stock might unlatch if you shove it in too far. Is this true?

Also, some YT review said that there is no bayonet lug, but when I looked this up I got conflicting reports. Can someone tell me if you can attach one of those Arsenal bayonets?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could walk me through the sbr process of the slr-107ur. I'm not talking paperwork-wise (I've done SBR's before), but physically.

I emailed my gunsmith and asked him:

>Could I get the barrel cut down, crowned, threaded, and the gas restrictor removed?

and he said:

>You will need the Krink front sight block that is threaded for the booster

What does this mean? halp. Also where do I engrave it?

It's dependent entirely on what the manufacturer of your rifle is. If that's your rifle in the picture, which it probably is, then I'd assume it's a WASR, and if that's the case then don't expect anyone to offer any more than $500 because honestly it's not worth that.

The resale market for firearms has always been notoriously shit. I've had people offer Taurus Judges and other low-quality handguns for my AR before, simply because they believe their firearm is more valuable than it actually is. You're not going to sell a used weapon for anywhere near what you paid for it.

>>30136261
>Actually believing that WASRs are worth $720
Holy fuck dude, you're the type of guy who walks onto a car lot and buys something for the sticker price, aren't you? The WASR was a $400-$500 rifle a year or two ago and that's all it'll ever be to anyone. You can get QC inspected WASRs for $650 new on Atlantic or you can buy a used on for well below that if you haggle, but nobody is going to buy your used WASR for $500.

>>30136295
Somehow I doubt it's demand. A lot of it has to do with Century blowing air up their own ass and inflating the price of their WASRs so you buy their American made AKs because they're cheaper. Everyone knows that already, which is why nobody will pay $500 for a used WASR.

>>30136305

It's a difficult thing to try and nail down when they started/stopped reinforcing bakes between the Tula and Izhmash factories.
In theory, the mags you have, they're all Gen 2s (ridgeback and not reinforced)
I'm sure there was some crossover, between 2nd and 3rd gen.

But don't worry too much about the feedlips breaking on AG-S4 mags unless you dive to prone and land on the mag.
Repetitively.

>Condition them though, and they'll be more flexible and less likely to break.

>To "condition" bakelites

>>
>>30143380
I dont think he knows what a "ur" is. That is the process for a standard rifle. Also what is the serial number pre fix? The new ones have a restrictor(104's as well) that need to be drilled out of the gas block.

So.. I posted this on /brg/ and was told to fuck off over here. Which makes sense.

Thinking of doing a Vepr build. Ideally in x39. Any thought on the aftermarket parts, or the rifle in general? I don't know much about the x39. Is modding a 16" Vepr even worth it?

Thoughts, comments, vicious attacks?
>>
>>30146081
In my mind no. These heavily converted civilian imports are pathetic and are just bullet shooters.

AKs in America are dead, save the tailings of Bulgarian imports that barely qualify these days.

But if you must buy a new production rifle I suppose they are acceptable over nothing
>>
>>30146081
I had a Vepr and converted it. I liked the rifle but after shooting an SLR I sold my vepr and bought an SLR107fr. It was everything I wanted without me having to do any work to it and it's just as accurate as the vepr but is lighter.

I'm about to trigger /akg/

RAS 47, has about 2200ish rounds currently.

Like everyone says, even those who scream about it melting inside of itself, It' shoots very accurately, and very well, and runs reliably. Not one failure on this rifle so far.

I'm going to keep shooting it until it's either not safe anymore or fails, and from current experience with it, that wont be any time soon.

I'm going to post a couple of pictures of the internals from about 1700ish rounds. This is why some who have them don't understand why people go in to autistic fits of rage when they see one.

That being said, quality control is Russian roulette, with 4 loaded, 2 empty. I still don't recommend buying one of these new. If a buddy of yours panic sells one because he saw the Rob videos and dumps it off cheap despite not having the wear to warrant such a reaction, it very well may be worth it.

I was concerned because this dent happened within the first 500 or so rounds, but since then hasn't really progressed and as long as it doesn't progress, isn't a big deal at all.

Just a little insight from someone who actually has one, as opposed to the ass load of people who all watched the same youtube videos and screaming these rifles literally explode after 10 rounds.

If Century gets their shit together on the quality control and steps of their metal, we could potentially have a great rifle on our hands. Avoid the Ras 47 as it is, but don't be so quick to turn a blind eye when we see the inevitable Ras 47 2.

Should I sell my SGL31-61 and buy an SBR'd AK? I really like the SGL, but I know I wouldn't shoot it much if I got another AK.

I did this. The triangle didn't look that great, at least with the zenitco handguard.

>samefag
I think the lightness of the triangle compliments wood handguards. Oh well, it was a thing.

OK, I need some bacon.

I recently bought bought my first AK, a WASR, and I picked up an extra magazine, the orange Tapco Intrafuse. It totally sucks.

>harder to load than the pmag
>really tight fit into the mag well

Besides PMags (such as the black one that came with the rifle), what are the good aftermarket magazines.

ALSO, It's got the side-mount for the scope rail, so what's the best brand/model?

Is it worth it to buy an AK-74 style muzzle brake?
