Headspace issues.

In this case the barrel was most likely not seated correctly during the initial remanufacturing of the gun by Century. Meaning there were portions of the cartridge case that weren't supported by the walls of the barrel chamber.

On one of these rounds, the unsupported case couldn't withstand the pressure, burst open, and sent very hot, high pressure gases into places where the gun wasn't designed to handle it (i.e. the receiver).

In short, headspace check your shit with some go/no-go gauges, or pay the price.

hi /akg/ ,
I would like to buy a bakelite magazine, fitted well with my Norinco Type- 56 ?
>>
>>30121251
I did once. Best part was he never even saw the gun (which was a chink SKS). Story time:

>be me a few years back
>go to small fudd range on outside of small ag based town
>cheap and only ever packed before durr season
>go inside to pay range fee plus by some ammo
>ammo has cheapest 7.62x39 anywhere for some reason
>as I'm paying for ammo and fee old fudd suddenly looks up
>"Son, I dont like ur gun, and I don't like you tryin to shoot it on muh range. So I better not see it."
>genuinely confused at this point
>"Ur buyin 7.62 for one of those AKs. I don't want no russian gun shootin up my stands, cuz u will no matter how gud u think u shoot. It's not allowed on muh range."
>k senpai, just sighting in my hog rifle
>kept shooting there for years till I moved out of town

Old fudd was a pretty cool cat besides that one incident. Weird part was that he liked AR's and all that, just not AK's because of their commie bloodline or something. Think the poor guy had dementia honestly.

Wire folder suck as stocks but they're far better at space saving than triangle stocks are. That being said, underfolders are far superior to triangle stocks, in my opinion. They allow for a decent enough cheek weld and are by far the best and space preservation, which is the overall idea of a folding stock. Triangles suck at saving space and really aren't comfortable as stocks, and they also seem to be the most expensive to produce, which really just makes them shit overall. They look nice, but that's about it.

The only people who bring in WASR-10's is century.
>- SLR-107FR
It won't matter that the paint has bubbled off. I'd honestly go with the latter, get a decent red dot, and then get a decent flash hider. The Folding stock on the SLR-107fr is a big factor. If I didn't have to choose from that and still be in a decent price range I'd get an SBR'ed Draco, preferably done right with either an underfolder or a regular fixed rear trunnion with the latter having a wire side folder.
>>
>>30124341
Depends on how compatible you want it. For 99% of AK models, even those with this proprietary stuff, there is a significant after market for them.

Assuming you're from the US, get a WASR that you've personally inspected. It's the best way to get started now. If you had a time machine and could go back 30 years, then you'd be at the prime time of cheap 100% foreign made AK rifles. Now we have to deal with 922r shit and only being able to import "sporters" (well it's been that way since '89) PLUS we can't import anything from China or Russia now so the market is kind fucked except for Romanian, Hungarian, Polish, Serbian, and Polish rifles, which don't come in at nearly the price point nor the numbers that they should.

A WASR-10 is pic related. It's a pretty standard AKM, will fit most AKM/AK-74 furniture, will use most AK/AKM standard parts, and the only thing that doesn't make it a perfect AKM clone is the lack of dimples on the receiver (for whatever reason), however they weld in small steel plates to do the job of the dimples.

Brand new, still-in-box Century AKMS came with a too-long dust cover. I mean, pretty easy fix (about 6 minutes with a file on the front edge of the dust cover), but still. WTF Century.

Not sure. Not really an AK guy and I've only had it a half hour.

Also, despite being a brand new gun (he bought it yesterday) there's huge gouges in the rear trunnion under the dust cover. I don't even know what could cause those.

Also also, I'm assuming underfolders typically don't have the accessory rail? This one doesn't. Looks like it would interfere, but again I'm not an AK guy.

Yeah, underfolders don't usually have the scope rail on the side unless the stock has been fucked with. How much did he pay for it?

>>
>>30126406
Oh also there's some rust in the receiver already. Just behind the last of the weld on the right side bolt rail. Kinda looks like they park'd it before they welded the rail.
>>
>>30126406
>Was kinda under the impression Tantals were the only Polish guns that made it into the US (yes I know Century is a parts builder). But again, not really an AK guy.
Nah, tons of Polish AKM parts kits have come in through the years, just not complete rifles. Also Century doesn't actually build most of their guns, they're either imported and desporterized (the WASRs and N-PAPs) or they're built by a third party and sold by century.
>No idea what he paid for it. I'll ask.
If he paid less than about $750 then he did alright.
>>
>>30126421
Yeah, the park finish on the rifles isn't that great. It's something that would be worth taking some grill paint or engine enamel to if he didn't pay too much for it, or get it done professionally by a gunsmith.

>are you sure? i read multiple times that the american arsenal slrs are converted saigas, not arsenals own production
Are you drunk or retarded? The SLR rifles are converted Bulgarian rifles, not Russian Saigas. The converted Saigas are the SGL line, which Arsenal doesn't do any more since the sanction and import restrictions on stuff from Russia
>>
>>30126580
Yeah it WAS focused up until I hit the damn button. This also isn't a phone camera, but a (admittedly pretty old) point and shoot digital.
>stabilize phone with both hands
Kinda hard to do when I'm holding the rifle, the phone, and trying to get the light right. It's dark as shit in here so I had to angle it towards a desk lamp.

I'm just pissed that it decided to switch focus right at the last instant for no apparent reason. Guess it digs my jeans or some shit.

>>
>>30126542
I've always just used spray can stuff for gun paint, but alumahyde is supposed to be good stuff.

Don't use any hydrocarbons cleaning off the cosmoline, no alcohol or degreasers, they'll take the paint right off. Just wipe it off with a shop towel and maybe use hot water to help, then chase it with an oiled rag to help prevent rust on the steel. I personally would only take off what I could wipe off, anything else isn't really going to hurt anything, and will actually help inhibit rust in the tricky spots.
>>
>>30126620
>Kinda hard to do when I'm holding the rifle, the phone, and trying to get the light right. It's dark as shit in here so I had to angle it towards a desk lamp.
Go set it out on your porch or something and take a picture then...
>>
>>30126620
Regardless of camera, invest in a tripod for it.
Even crappy snap shot cameras often have a higher quality picture mode that only works with the stability of a tripod.
Also be prepared to go to gimp-shop or something and auto white balance your pictures before you post them. But they'll be amazing compared to the quick snap shot mode.
I even use the indirect light from an LED flashlight in most of my indoor pictures.
I'm not saying they'll all turn out perfect, but that's why you take a few and sift for the best one.

i was thinking about getting a bulgarian arsenal (SAR M1), noone seemed to know anything about those, thats why im asking
>>
>>30126795

Yes. They're shipped here, and they have some american parts thrown on them to comply with 922r. Like the muzzle brake, furniture, trigger, etc.
>>
>>30126778
Segwaying off this, should I just paint the barrel, let it cure, and then populate it? With the receiver, I'm also thinking of riveting the rear and front trunnion and then paint and curing, taping over any original pail on the front trunnion.
>>
>>30126795
the SAR M1 aren't really available here, however if my experience with Arsenal of Bulgaria products is any indication, they're decent rifles.
>>

>Segwaying off this, should I just paint the barrel, let it cure, and then populate it? With the receiver, I'm also thinking of riveting the rear and front trunnion and then paint and curing, taping over any original pail on the front trunnion.
Nope. Populate it, get everything together, the entire rifle, and then tape off the stuff you don't want to paint.
>>
>>30126795
SLR is made by Bulgarian Arsenal AD and then sent to Arsenal USA for conversion, conversion consist of applying necessary 922r parts
>>
>>30126827
thanks, i guess that confirms that the SARs will have a nice quality aswell, in my country they are about 200-500€ more expensive than (non-sporterized) saigas, up there with the VEPRs

So I've got nine Bulgarian sanitized painted black Russian plums that I picked up locally for $100 a few months ago. They function flawlessly, but I'm wondering if it'll be with it to strip the paint to revert them back to plum color. I've read online that it's hit or miss though and that they could either be decent looking or have been all sanded and ugly. Has anyone stripped the paint off of sanitized mags before? Was it worth it?

I'm not hurting for plums as I'm sitting on about a dozen, I just think they look cooler than plain Jane black.
>>
>>30129888
For 7.62x39 I only shoot golden tiger anymore unless other stuff is given to me. I'm sitting on around 13k rounds of GT strewn between my house and my parents house, and I recently found another 1k rounds or so of GT I had brought to my grandparents house and forgot about.

I've got a grandfather who loves Cabelas and whenever 7.62x39 is on sale he will buy a few boxes for me (mostly Herters) and I shoot that stuff before I dig into my GT stash.

For 5.45 I only shoot WPA as a local shop keeps it in stock for $0.25 a round which is a great price considering no shipping and supporting a local business. I'm sitting on two tins of 7n6 but that is mostly just for collecting or long term storage now that non corrosive stuff is nearly the same price.
>>
>>30131100

He is/was taking money if you haven't already placed an order.

Already did.

I think he's only taking money for the first batch, which excluded the 7.62x39 thirty round bakes.

I'm just kinda anxious to know when the second batch, and the paypal links, come.

To be fair, I can understand if you're hoping to hit up some pawn shop that has one for like $540 or something

I thought that was a penis about to penetrate an AK from the thumbnail.

I am disappointed.
>>
>>30131802

Yeah, I've been trying to score one for under 600.

Shame AKs are only getting more expensive.

Hey /k/ I have a question for you. I got my AK recently from my dad for $200, but he's had it forever and pretty much the only thing he knew about it was that it's an AK.

I bought a couple of pmag magazines online assuming that an AK mag was an AK mag, but when I went to try it out the dang things are too big to fit in the gun.

Am I missing something obvious? I tried to search for different sizes of magazines, but didn't find anything except for capacity differences. All I know about the rifle is that it's Romanian ROMARM. I hadn't started doing any research until just now.

So how stupid am I?

Single stack mag well, that's a very old girl.
>>
>>30131942

Your gun looks like one of those assy Clinton AWB era guns that can only take single stack 10 rounders. The uglyass thumbhole stock and lack of barrel threads seems to confirm this.

Ehh, a lot of it is the gradual election stuff and some other shit. Just a year ago you could pick up WASRs for like $500 after the prices settled down, now they're going back up again.

if it's stupid and it works, etc.
