I'm kind of having difficulty imagining how to break the extractor, I know it's based off the 1911 but a lot of the extractor breakage from not magazine loading I thought was fixed by an external extractor which this one appears to have.

Plenty of semi-auto designs are susceptible to extractor damage if you load a round through the slide, the BHP included.
It's pretty bad practice on any gun really. The cartridge rim is supposed to slide in underneath the rim from the magazine, not jump over the rim with the full force of the slide slamming home in front of it.
I've seen extractors chipped and bent from it on Glocks, Hi-powers, 1911s, Smith 59s, and Sig 226s. Don't be a tard, load from a mag every time, and check all your extractors for chips or deformation if you haven't been.
