Hello /k/

I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts on clothing for war-fighting. I know that soldiers just mostly wear what they are issued, but I'm curious what you guys think is the best clothing for combat or what traits of clothing one should look for before going into a firefight. This thread isn't necessarily oriented towards camo, but feel free to weigh in on that as well. Is it better to have textiles which are synthetic, breathable, waterproof, with velcro, without velcro, or otherwise?

TL;DR: Best clothes for operating.

>>30051119
First in my mind is durability. Every soldier knows that you will absolutely beat the shit out the knees of your pants. Reinforced seat and crotch are good too. Ripstop nylon is good and a lot of outdoor clothes use it.
>>
>>30051119
Tighter pants, tighter groups.

That's not a cop out you sperglord, if it's hot wear less and probably a specific color, if it's cold wear more and probably another color.

It doesn't take rocket appliances to figure this out, OP.

Synthetic fabrics kick absolute ass. I live in hell, and by that I mean a sub tropical climate. Going over 100f with 70%-90% humidity is not out of the ordinary for me. Traditional fabrics are like a death sentence, but the synthetic stuff is breathable and drys off from the oceans of sweat I produce. It has its place.

Tough denim, loose and comfy, boots or running shoes, some long sleeve shirts made of tough cotton or some material and a paintjob to match your environment. Whenever I go innawoods, I use a green T shirt as a makeshift shemalegh to shield from the sun (Woods has plains area and the sun is hella hot at 80°F), some surplus woodland multicam and tough old jeans. Works great hiding in thr grass to stalk wild birds

Not the anon you replied to, but I use pic related. Really happy with it. Not cool enough for the Fjallraven
>>
>>30051119
Obviously you want it to be comfortable. This is an absolute must, believe it or not. Discomfort is a distraction and distraction is the last thing you need. It should also be of a material that wicks moisture away from skin, and it should to be distinctive enough for allies to recognize but inconspicuous enough for the enemy to overlook (or intimidating enough to make them shit themselves). Other than that it's all environment dependent, really. No one outfit (or weapon for that matter) is perfect for everything. My fatigues are perfect for late spring through early fall but shit in winter. I have a bushcoat that's perfect for snow but which would kill me within an hour during the summer, jusy like how handguns are excellent for personal defense but absolute shit for going on the attack.
>>
>>30054581
Some over priced nylon, you can make better equipment yourself and save hundreds of dollars and possibly make money if you are good at sowing.
>>
>>30054728
I wouldn't slight you for wearing that at all, it's basically an Alice pack with leather straps. It might be cotton from appearance which would suck where I live but to each their own.
This is what I think of when I say don't buy fjalljew.
Their gear that isn't intended to be multi-week field gear is garbage intended for hispters, and even their srsbsns gear isn't usually made out of ideal materials, suggesting you wax it. Overall it's overpriced garbage but I place a very high premium on insulation when damp or wet and am not overly concerned about my clothing going napalm in a bomb burst.

I'm a retard. I grabbed the wrong pic of the bag of google. Mine is the same but it has a Kodra nylon material instead of the leather/cotton which is the higher end bag. I go to school in Florida so that cotton wouldn't hold up well when it pours walking to class.
>>
>>30054768
This, if you have an industrial sewing machine you can make gear that would normally cost $200 for like $20-$40.
>>
>>30051193
jesus christ you're retarded

You're saying durability is key. Let's run with that.

Let's say the best pair of pants in the world is made of six layers of kevlar and 1000d cordura with every seam quadruple stitched, platinum knee caps with gel pads, built in suspenders made of 3/8" thick webbing, and all covered in tightly woven chain mail for ultimate abrasion resistance.

You're saying these pants would be perfectly suitable for desert, forest, tropics, tundra, deep snow, mountains, plains, etc.

I need to disagree on the synthetic cloth. It usually dries easily yes, but even a hint of fire and it goes up in flames. Some are better about it than others, but they still leave a fucking horrible burn as it melts on you.

I dunno man. When I was in A Stan our unit was super lax about what we wore. Generally in firefights a lot of us were wearing shorts and T-shirts with body armor. We suffered very few casualties. Don't get me wrong, people got fucked up, especially by IEDs, but no deaths.

The unit that relieved us was an active duty unity in full load outs and I gear that they suffered like 4 deaths the first month of their rotation.

>material
Wicking. Whether this be wool or one of the nylon-based wicking shirts/boxer briefs, doesn't matter.
>durability
When we first got ACU's I was on a sling-load team. Very first time we unassed the helo, all 8 of us ripped the ass-patch off the pants because there's a little metal lip on the door to a Blackhawk and they decided it was okay to sew that part of the pants a quarter inch back from the actual edge and only single-stitch it. FRACU's and the 3rd gen ACU's (the ones with the button pockets again...finally) fixed this though. I've seen no real difference in durability between grid ripstop and other weave patterns.
>gusseted, roomy crotch and articulated knees
Because nothing's worse than trying to climb something steep and mashing your nuts to your leg because some bureaucrat somewhere decided your COMBAT UNIFORM needed to be cut like an Armani suit. Also *greatly* aids the comfort and ability to piss while in a Swiss seat/climbing harness.
>breathability
I don't know how they managed it, but the ACU material is thinner and lighter than the summer-weight BDU grid ripstop but manages to breathe significantly worse and take longer to dry despite both officially being 60/40 nyco.

Hello ever one I have a question say I wanted to line a large coat or jacket with Kevlar how much would I need to line it with to at least survive small arms fire or knives also how much weight would it add on?
>>
>>30063507
that is the gayest thing I have ever seen and I frequent cock rate thread on /b/
>>
>>30064595
probably about 20-30 layers of specially designed Kevlar please do not buy a Kevlar sail for a sail boat different design weave and properties will not stop bullets. will probably weigh around 20 pounds if all around protection you will need overlap if there is a zipper as zippers are not bullet proof also be sure to design it so the weight is distributed evenly across you shoulders and that the Kevlar panels do not sag. Also make sure to sew the Kevlar panels out edges together so they do not fray, or separate when hit.

well have you ever heard of the north Hollywood bank robbery it worked pretty gud for them. frighteningly so https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Hollywood_shootout
>>
>>30064637
also from what I have seen from professional manufacturing is that if you take multiple layers of fabric and bond them together with polyurethane epoxy under pressure. this will give you a hard plate that can help reduce truma. literally did this with a few layers of canvas and ended up with a machete proof and arrow proof sheet of material
>>
>>30064657
please do not use this information to commit criminal activity I am sharing this as a hobbies I'm a bit of an armor and weapons geek although I would hate to see people injured in pointless acts of violence.
>>
>>30064657
Thank you anon how much would it cost me do that
>>
>>30064637
well define practical it would probably be cheaper to buy a concealable vest as Kevlar is pretty expensive when bought in the bulk needed to make it. you will need a roll 5feet wide and 30 feet long by my estimates
>>
>>30064720
safe guess would probably be around 500-600 bucks. the main reason is that you would not get the bulk discount that most professional buyers get when ordering. I would seriously recommend looking into bullet proof me .com as they do sell Kevlar scraps that while old still offer reasonable protection from ballistic objects this could be stitched together to make a technicolor quilt of Kevlar. although I really would recommend just buying a normal vest, unless you just really want the experience of making something with your own two hands. I got into stuff like this when I was in 7th grade, loved the military channel loved mail call... happy times
>>
>>30064720
Given your intrests if you really want to have fun take some courses at a community college regarding physics and chemistry, later on down the road this could led to you going to a 4 year school for material engineering which I think would be a field of study which you would enjoy.. I would do that if I was better with the calculus courses needed but I digress

Whatever your comfortable in. /k/ overthinks the question a TON. Like, we've had threads that people take seriously about shit like grey man operating. In an urban environment, I'll tell you the best getup.

>Whatever you normally wear
>Throw a tactical vest on
>Wear hat/sunglasses/balaclava (optional)

Mind you, it can change for various reasons... but for the irregular urban force that's a good setup

I'm 6'5 and can't ever find any goddamn pants long enough for spider legs. I bought some kitanica pants last year on a super sale, when they magically had a run of factory seconds that were too long. They fit like a dream, and are the most comfortable tough pants i ever bought. They make excellent winter hunting pants.

don't ever pay retail tho.
