well you can wait it out till they unfuck their QC (not going to happen) or you can play the lottery and count on having to refinish your rifle (which will hold up better in the long run anyway)

Hey /k/, my friend and I were looking at some Yugo M70s PAPs, with the receivers made by Century. and one AK model made entirely from CAI.
2 of them were covered in Magpul mall-ninja furniture and the other two came with the classical furniture.

Are these any good? It's about 650 for the M70, and 700 for this guy, http://centuryarms.biz/proddetail.asp?prod=RI2245-N&cat=134

A buddy of mine from the Polish Armed Forces cringed when I said I wanted a Tantal. According to him they're fine rifles if you're a pacifist because they're inaccurate as shit due to poor design. I've heard of the Century Tantals having accuracy problems as well, but I don't know any other company that manufactures them so I can't really say.

Personally though, testament from my buddy is more than enough for me.

How come the slr104s do not use that spring loaded firing pins ?
>>
>>29923818

No idea.

All I know is that on my 107fr, the spring loaded nature of the firing pin somehow makes taking the bolt apart MUCH easier.

Taking the firing pin out just requires some pressure on the firing pin rear, followed by punching out the retaining pin by hand. My other ak with its free floating firing pin requires a hammer and an unsettling amount of force to dislodge the retaining pin.

I have one in 5.45 and I see no such problems. Kindly provide pics, the only thing I'm worried about is my paint falling off.
>>
Would a modern Russian optic on a triangle folding plum furniture SLR104 look weird? It seems wonky to me. I feel like a proper triangle folder should be wood and bakelite, while if I want a more modern rifle I should use black polymer with a polymer folder.

Is a triangle folder with plum furniture anachronistic? Would a triangle folder with plum furniture and a modern Russian optic be really anachronistic? Not that I care because it's my rifle and I'm going to to what I want, I'm just curious if it ever happened.

They do, they just haven't been easy to get for a while. Pic related, the 223 and 545 model look identical.

Possibly, but I've only ever seen 74M's and recycled 74M's. But keep in mind that these were made up to 1989 so many are really not even that old. Lots of Ukrainians were using them to resist the Russians, presumably from old Soviet depots or something.

I mean it wouldn't surprise me if they were and you mentioning production up to '89 puts things in perspective, but still it just seems so old and archaic (which it really isn't as they're more or less very similar but still). The idea of 74Ns still being around seems so bizarre when the AK100 series exists.

Again, looking at production dates puts it in perspective that they're aren't too far apart as the 74M began production in '91, but I don't know it just feels like there should be a vast difference in time between the two. It's weird.

>>29925276
I had a VEPR in .308 for a while and it was a great rifle. It's hard to compare my old VEPR to my current SLR104, but both are excellent. The VEPR had a considerably better finish, though. If I had a choice between my SLR104 and a 5.45 VEPR with proper furniture I'd still probably go with the SLR simply because the VEPR is a little heavier.

Speaking of VEPRs, are VEPR Supers still being made? All I see out there fairly regularly are Supers in .223 (KVar has them now) while the only Supers on Gunbroker are both in .308 starting at $1700. I'd love to pick up a Super one of these days, but I don't really want one in .223 and I don't want to pay nearly two grand on one in .308 considering I bought my old .308 VEPR for only like $550.

What am I looking at? Am I being trolled?

If you really can't zero your rifle, that sucks and I would contact Arsenal about it, but inventing problems like this is just the buyer's remorse talking. Also, headspace isn't something you can see like that, you're fundamentally misunderstanding headspace. Whatever gap you're talking about has nothing to do with headspace, rest assured.
>>
>>29925856
Have you tried contacting Arsenal? I know their customer service isn't the greatest, but if you try and they still don't respond, you can trash them on kikebook.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

As far as headspace goes, have you actually used a set of "go, no-go" gauges?
>>
>>29925856
Yeah, your FSB is badly canted. Contact Arsenal. I know they say that canted sights aren't covered in their warranty, but if it's so canted it can't be zeroed the rifle should be considered defective. That one should have never left their doors, the cant is easy to see.

No trolling today. Found out the IRS is going to fuck me in the ass. I'm not in a good mood. (even to troll)

I've heard from ALOT of ak owners that the RSB is supposed to fit evenly between those two tabs. And if it isn't, it's because: RSB Cant or headspacing problems.

>I actually just sent off the pictures to arsenal. I'm still debating whether I want to just dump this rifle and get a SGL or just save the cash for a LMT.

If you're sticking with 5.45, the SGL wouldn't be a bad option, but for half the price, you could get a DDI in 5.45.

Also, LMT makes a damn good rifle. I was very happy with my Defender 2000 and am still happy with my 10.5" LMT upper.

All this Arsenal bubbling finish stuff got me looking over my SLR-104 (6000+ rounds, many many magdumps with no bubbles or anything, no 7n6/corrosive ammo through the gun, all WPA) and I noticed this here, around the gas block, and around the front sight. Headspace is a function of the area between a closed bolt and the end of the chamber. It is the space that the cartridge sits in in the barrel. too tight, the action can be almost permanently locked up. Too loose, and gun can go kaboom.
>>
>>29926256
that's just the grease they use when putting it together. It's fine, it'll just hold carbon and piss you off if you want a pristine rifle.

>>29926608
From what I've gathered and the problem I was referring to has to deal with the RSB not being seated evenly and properly.

So when the bolt carrier is forward, it would be slightly tilted and not evenly locking up.

If that makes sense.

Quick question: who makes a better trigger pin retaining plate: Tapco or Krebs Custom?
>>
>>29926789
Best? Eastern European steel, and some say the Yugo mags have better springs and better finish and QC than others. Bulgarian steel reinforced polymer "waffle mags" are outstanding, lightweight, durable, and $50 a pop if you can find one anywhere.

Worst? The Korean mags look good on the outside but they're not fitted correctly. They have poor springs and the follower needs to rise up another 1/8" or so between the feed lips in order to make the last couple of rounds feed properly. Polymer mags that aren't Bulgarian waffles don't have a good reputation, though I have heard some say that Magpul and US Palm mags aren't bad. Some even say the Tapco mags are okay as range mags that you'll plink around at the range with, but they cost the same as the real deal steel, so why do they exist?
>>
>>29926808

well you could always take a tooth brush with a little CLP and brush at the area to see if it goes away.
>>
>>29926862
I have krebs in both of mine. They fit great. Can't speak to tapco.
>>
>>29926831
Tapco may are may not work also like magpul ones they can break the locking lugs off, but for some stuff like cheap 5.45 mags those are about your only option.

The Red Star Arms retainer is the plate I've put in every one of my rifles.

>>
>>29926187
It's not 100% drop in, it will require a little bit of fitting. I can't remember if the krebs safety I tried on my SGL12 needed any more fitting besides opening the gap for the thicker receiver. I took it out and used it on another gun.
>>
>>29927001
They're very similar.
But the RSA is half the price of the krebs.

I'm just speaking on my experience with the Red Star, but I'm not sure if the cutout on the krebs allows the pins to be locked into the retainer and not just sitting in the cutout.
>>
>>29927109

looks like they just sit in the cutout. I'll give the RSA a whirl then. Thanks for the tip.

Basically the same. For weapons in 5.45mm, 250m battlesight setting = 25m. To confirm zero, at 100m (110 yards) set the rear sight to 400m and verify it groups 25cm (10") above point of aim. Now put the sight back to the battlesight setting and leave it alone.

That's how the Soviets did it.
