I don't quite have access to the tools to do so, let alone the knowledge. In all honesty, I have little desire to have a 5.45 gun due to the fact that ammo is scarce in my area and also personal indifference. As cool as 74's are.

>What's wrong with the Serbian sonofabitch?
Literally nothing, he's being a salty faggot. Last thread he claimed that Zastava doesn't cold-hammer forge their barrels, for instance, which they definitely do. Disregard.

Serbshit (M92) or Gypsyshit (Draco) are the two cheapest ways to into krinks, and both are fine guns. Much like with the M70 vs the WASR (also Serbshit and Gypsyshit, respectively), your choice is between beefier build overall and chromed barrel and standardized furniture.

Literally nothing wrong with M92s.
>>
>>29897927
What exposed metal?

Literally you're exposing the muzzle device threads. You're gonna need a muzzle detent pin and the muzzle device of your choice but if you don't fuck up grinding the weld off there's nothing to cover up.

Can't find any hard numbers re: Manticore triangle weight but that's the thing everyone complains about with it. CNCW lists theirs as weighing .46lbs.

The Manticore weighs .93lbs or 15 ounces, so the CNC is half the weight.
Nice.
Not sure why nobody's made a stamped steel version either, but I'm sure there's some logic behind it; ie can't into stamping well enough for it to hold up to hard use.

You have a field gauge?
It might still be ok, just on the edge of serviceability.

Here's a little copy paste

>Strip the receiver of the fire control group and try a live round with just the bolt and see if there is play front to rear when it is rotated into the closed position. Then repeat with the bolt in the carrier, move the bolt carrier back and forth (not enough to make to bolt rotate) and observe the bolt to see if it is moving back and forth.

>Closing on the no go (without force means that there is too much play and when the round fires the force will be transmitted into the trunnion with a hammer force instead of a smooth continuous pulse through the metal. It's a small movement but my opinion is that too much of it over a period of time will lead to problems. That being said it is not as dangerous as the bolt not closing on the go gauge.

Stamping dies are an investment that nobody really wants to make when it's only going to be sold in small numbers to a relatively niche community. Lots of companies already have CNC machines and can produce a much wider variety of products. They would have to buy/make the dies and the press, get their stampings figured out, then work out assembling the stampings with spot welders. Much easier to just CAD something up and press go on a machine you already own.

DDI is making a stamped steel folder though. It's not a drop in stock though, it's a replica of the real 4.5mm stuff, so it mounts to a regular folding trunnion. DDI may be the first company to make a 100% US made AK that isn't shit.

It's going to be, that's the thing. You won't get a domestic AK at RAS47 prices with foreign made quality. AK's were designed and then refined to be produced in large numbers as cheaply and fast as possible. It requires a significant capital investment, but once the machinery is set up you can spit them out quickly. The US civilian market just doesn't have enough demand to justify that kind of capital investment. You're talking about not only milling machines and jigs, but stamping dies, casting molds, a barrel forging machine, etc. Ex-curtain countries already have a lot of these machines, which is why they can make and sell these rifles relatively cheaply, the machinery is all already there and paid for, it just needs to be maintained. Which is why Century had to bump the prices up on the Wasr (superior) to make the price of their US made AK's (inferior) competitive. They made the RAS47 as cheap as possible and they still couldn't make it as cheap as the far superior Wasr.

So if we're going to get a US made AK that isn't shit it's going to cost a lot, compared to something like a Wasr. Cugir has the advantage of already having all the required machinery in-house. Nobody in the US can say the same. If you want forged parts they'll probably have to be outsourced. If you want stamped steel you'll be paying for the R&D on the dies. If you want a CHF barrel you can commit sudoku. Etc.

what's the difference between RPK and AK gas blocks?
>>
>>29903726
The RPK74 and RPK74M had 45 degree gas blocks for some reason. Other than that, no difference to my knowledge

Bru, can the aksu handle any kind of brake besides its original brake?
>>
>>29903726
The most important difference is the length between the gas port and the part of the gas block that interfaces with the gas tube. They're slightly different so the two aren't interchangeable. Visually, the overall length of the RPK gas block is shorter, and more slanted.

The rifle in that picture might be called an RPK by some who follow a more liberal definition of RPK, but for the rest of us, it's a long barreled AK with a bipod.

>>29903789
oh, thanks. i thought difference was furniture, trunnion, receiver, no lugs, iron sights

would you guys happen to know why stock holding mechanism so different?
>>
>>29903693
Oh, I'm well aware of all the costs involved tooling up to mass produce AKs.
It's nice to see someone stepping up and making it happen, and hopefully they'll be able to recoup some of the invested money over time, and be able to bring prices down eventually.
As a side note, the ad on AGS for that Polish DDI has a little tongue in cheek poke at Arsenal.

>This AKM is finished off in durable KG Guncoat, the best firearm finish in the industry.
>It will not bubble or come off due to sustained firing and is very chemical resistant.

Made me chuckle.
>>
>>29903842
Stock folding mechanism? I can sort of answer that. The RPKS was designed before the AK74 existed, so it follows that the RPKS was designed before the AKs-74 style folding stock existed as well (the original triangle folder mechanism). The only other folding mechanism they had going on at the time was the AKMS folding stock, which is an underfolder and that just wouldn't make sense on an RPK, where you want some extra weight in the back and something nice and solid to stabilize and even brace against with your support hand. So Molot designed their own folding stock to accommodate the RPKS. Molot is also severely stuck in their ways, and only ever changes anything when the need calls for it. Hence, the RPK folding stock is different from the 4.5/5.5mm folding stocks.
>>
>>29903778
based on experience with short barreled AR's under 10 inches most of the concussive blast comes back at you, so wouldnt recommend it.

How do you guys zero your AKs? I was watching an AKOU vid and Rob Ski was saying he sights his AKs in so at 100 yards he aims at the belt buckle and hits about 8 inches above that. Do any of you do that?

I've always just sighted my AKs in to normal aim where to want to hit
>>
Did anyone ever find out whether the Strike Industries J-Comp is available for AKs, in the sense of being available with 1:14mm LH thread and a detent notch?
>>
>>29906947
The sights on an AK, RPK, or SKS are designed so that you set the rear sight to 200m (300m if it's 5.45mm), that is, to the battlesight setting, and zero it dead on at 25m.

You can then verify at 100m by setting the rear sight at 300m (400m for a 5.45mm AK) and making sure it shoots as close as possible to 25cm high (about 10").

If space is limited you can set the rear sight on a 7.62x39mm AK, SKS, etc. to 300m (400m for 5.45mm) and zeroing at 14m, or 46 feet, and hoping for the best.

If you want the absolute best quality factory rifle that isn't something that was imported back in the 80's or 90's before all the import bullshit and costs like $2000+ I'd say get a SGL-31 or 21 off the used market. A SGL-31 will run you about $1500 and is almost identical to the Russian AK-74m, minus the rear end (different stock/rear trunnion, and no reinforcement plate). I mean it all depends on what you want out of the rifle. Usually I'd also suggest an SLR-104fr or SLR-107fr but given the current shit going on about them I'd rather avoid that whole argument.

Some people have been having the paint flake off of their Arsenal SLRs after magdumping less than 100 rounds this past month.

Emphasis on SOME PEOPLE. I've had my SLR-104 for about a year now and I've magdumped and bumpfired thousands of rounds of 5.45 through it and the paint is still just fine.

If a company produced 499 good products and one bad product, everyone will focus on the one bad product instead of the 499 good ones. Does that mean it's ok? Of course not, QC ur shit Arsenal. But saying HURR ARSENAL SUX because of this paint issue while ignoring the thousands of people who are happy with their rifles and that don't have the problem is foolish.
>>
>>29907453
One or two batches of recent SLR's had shitty finishes that bubbled when magdumped because the rifles weren't prepped right before being being finished. A few also had some rust under the finish for probably the same reason. My current theory is that they didn't properly degrease them and so moisture got stuck under oil and caused some surface rust, and when the gun heated up the paint bubbled because the oil underneath boiled a bit.
