I've got a black (10) bayonet coming in for the rifle. I thought about shelling out the money for a proper plum Soviet bayonet but then it'd just be a wallhanger collector's piece and I wouldn't be able to goof off and stab shit with it like what I want to do with this common (10).

Maybe someday, ~$250 for a bayonet is on the cheaper end of bayonet prices compared to the bayonets I used to collect.

>>
>>29841965
AK74 bayonets don't interchange with AKM bayonets because of the muzzle brake, right?
>>
>>29842020
No, I didn't. I really thought about it because they're only like $50 but I just got a new (10) on Ebay because it was only $20 more for a factory new bayonet, even if it isn't Russian.

I'm always paranoid about "fair" condition. Atlantic is great and I have 100% confidence that they wouldn't sell beat to shit products without honestly describing it as beat to shit, but $20 to go from "fair" to "new" was what sold me.
>>
If I have a WASR 2, what needs to be done to have a threaded muzzle for a 74 style brake?
>>
>>29842033
AKM bayonets fit on the AK-74 standard muzzle brakes just fine. They just look like abortions.

For those of you with Arsenals, what is the prefix of your serial number? Rob Ski and one other guy on youtube have SLR-107s starting with XM55 and both of them have the bubbling paint.

I have as SLR 104 with a serial prefix of AB54 (2014 manufacture) and I have had zero issues with bubbling paint or anything like that after magdump after magdump of 7N6. There was a time when I was putting a tin of 7N6 though the rifle every range trip (as I had started buying 7N6 years before I even had a rifle chambered in 5.45 because it was only like $0.11 a round) and the paint on the barrel and gasblock on my gun look perfect minus usual wear and tear from banging the rifle around.

Would it be more painful to be shot by 7N6 or Federal Fusion 7.62x39?

Should I be worried about minor mushrooming of the bit of the bolt carrier that resets the trigger on my vepr 54r? Could excess wear be caused by using heavy ball 54r vs light ball? Also, what muzzle device should i get after I remove the pinned muzzle nut? I kind of want something functional but also nicer looking.

>>
>>29842530
No, BCG tail peening is pretty common in AKs. You'll get faggots sometimes claiming it means parts have been improperly heat-treated (see: NPAPs last year) but it's caused by the difference in the contour of the hammer and the contour of the boat tail being different and coming to a compromise. Often hammers are harder than bolt carriers also which contributes.

Basically unless it's fucking with the function of the rifle or other components are getting chewed up don't worry about it.

I field stripped the rifle and checked for canting or parts that aren't fitted nicely, as Robski found on his XM55. Luckily everything on my rifle seems to be put together straight and tight.

Hopefully when I run a few mags through this thing next week the paint won't melt.

Excessive fouling is the result.

See the inside of your gas tube, how it has those star-shaped bits that stick out? Those are the contact surfaces on the gas tube. It's a small contact surfaceso the gas tube can slip on them with minimal friction, without having to use lube that can potentially accelerate fouling.

At least that's what I assumed those star folds were for.

Interesting; it seems to me like it might be better for people with smaller hands, but that's based on the looks of the gun more than anything. I've heard the muzzle flip is ridiculously low due to the bore axis being mere millimeters above the hands.

Pretty much all of those are fine assuming you're willing to actually take the time and inspect it to make sure it's not a lemon, and do a little research on the rifle you're buying.

Just avoid RAS47s since the furniture and a number of small parts, such as the sights, start to come apart after prolonged shooting.

And definitely avoid IOs unless you have a fucking death wish. The bolts have been shown to catastrophically shear parts off under 50 rounds, and the gun itself is so badly overgassed that the bolt carrier will jump the reciever rails if you remove the recoil buffer.

More mags. Go for the max combat ammunition load of 22 pounds.

For the M16 that translates to about 22 fully loaded magazines. For a 74 with polymer mags I'd imagine it'd be roughly there, perhaps one or two less.

Then comes more ammo, and spare parts.

Does anyone actually do anything with the dinky 10 round magazine their AK comes with? Seems kinda superfluous when you own a few dozen 30 round steel mags.

In fact, does anyone here own sub-30 round mags who doesn't live in some hellhole state that restricts magazine capacity?

The 20 round Hungarian tanker mags seem sex, especially when it simplifies things to 1 box of ammo = 1 mag, instead of the hotdogs-and-buns problem that people run into with normal AK mags.

The 30 rounders are fine, maybe a bit more fragile but nothing to really worry about.

I bought a 5round norinco for shits (20$)
Has the tightest lock up of any mag in my wasr.
>so cute

I keep my 10 rounder loaded just because why not. I imagine they're useful for benchrest shooting and such.
>>
>>29847601

bench shooting. good for sighting in and target practice. I use 20 round magazines all the time in my AR too.

He's a hobby builder who got an FFL. Nothing wrong with that but I'm tired of seeing him get recommended endlessly on Reddit when so many more qualified builders exist. The only thing he really has going for him is that he's young and hip and Internet-relatable. Reddit is such a fucking hugbox which is why he became popular, not because of his build quality. Now he's getting exposed and the only thing he had going for him is being ruined. When I used to go on Reddit the users were always so cringey with how circlejerk-y it was.

It wasn't so terrible. I avoided any damage by using a rag for cushion.
I guess I can rest easy knowing that it'll be tighter than hell?

Even the PK01VS is shit?

I've been on the fence between an Obzor or PK01VS, but if Russian tube optics are shit then maybe the Obzor will be my best bet.

>Not having a 1rd AK mag

All of you are plebs.

My converted Saiga has a strange feature. You can put it on safe, pull the trigger, and now the trigger is significantly lighter. I didn't know AKs were supposed to have a set trigger. It's a Texas AK trigger.

Just get a wasr. Underfolders only look cool feel shit shit when shooting.

Once again, I totally agree with what you're saying, but I don't consider his post shitposting. Its just a post that doesn't need to be reiterated, which might make it a shit post, but I don't think it's necessarily worth haranguing the guy over.

Its not like we can't own them, they just cost more than they're worth. I could go on GB and get a Type 56 right now, but it'd be $1500 and up, which is way more than a used AK is worth by any standard.

>>29846942
To be fair, looking at the closeups doesn't really give me much faith in that build. Then again, I'm not knowledgeable enough on AK building to tell if anything is really fucked up or if it just looks like shit.

Has you covered. I honestly had no clue either though, thanks.

>>29847270
The answer is simple: don't sell your firearms. I'm sure Arsenal will eventually address the issue, probably, maybe not.

>>29847295
Reading it I was about to ask why you would put a rail on before an optic, then I looked at the photo and it all made sense.

>>29847507
Do you want the more compact rifle that's built more to RPK specs than AK specs? Then go with the NPAP. Do you want a "standard" AKM? Then go with the WASR.

>Obzor is nice
What? The tint on them looks absolutely terrible. If you've got to get an Eastern-made optic it's probably the best choice, but aren't they the same price as an Aimpoint?
>>
>>29847973
What does it matter if they're the same price as an aimpoint?
>>
>>29847512

Ah fuck, didn't see the sanitized part.

>but I don't think it's necessarily worth haranguing the guy over

That's a good word for it.
Ok tripfriend, I'll ease up on the guy when he inevitably posts it again.

>I honestly had no clue either though, thanks
You're welcome.

Looking now they're only $470, which is about $100 shy of what I thought it was. What matters about that is that you can get better optics in the same price range. The Obzor looks cool as fuck, but it's not a $500 optic. An Aimpoint T-1 would be a better choice if you're willing to go more expensive, or a PRO if you want a cheaper choice. The tint on the optic is horrendous and, while the reticle is nice, its a bit big for an optic with a field of view that isn't all that great.

I'd love an Obzor, but the price is outrageous for what you're getting. If you have your heart dead set on one, then good for you, but there are better optics by a long shot in that price range.

>install new ak side rail, get it as tight as i can on the rail while still being able to remove it by hand
>can wiggle it side to side with my hand

What can I do? Link related is what I'm working with.
