i'm just going to assume i was having an off day or something, there is no way my barrel is fucked seeing as the last time i shot, i got 1.1moa 10rd groups.
however, the last time i got those groups, i only shot really well when the adj. gas block was closed.
i doubt that has anything to do with it seeing as the bullet should be long gone before the gas makes it's way to the bcg.

Actually, they are necessary. Due to the shape of the magwell, normal captive pins wont work. You have to cut and shape them to get them to fit.

>>29885134
To me the stupid thing about suppressors is that they wear out, and once they wear out if you want to replace them you have to go through the whole rigamaroll again, which is just not right. Even the oil filter can apparently requires you form the filter, not the adapter, so the easily replenished nature of it is rendered functionally pointless.
That's my understanding at least, correct me if I'm wrong.
>>29885182
should have bought an aimpoint from the get go.
Its also no surprise that its taking so long.
>>29885187
the Econo-Can or w/e its called requires you to register the adapter, not the filter last I checked
>>29885187
All things made by man will wear out.
If you think your going to wear out a can soon. Time to buy another one.
Best be on the safe side and keep three on hand.
>>29885174
Normal pins work fine.... However putting a drop in trigger group, like in any other AR type rifle needs anti walk pins.
Again, with the talking and the not knowing.
>>29885187
You are incorrect about the oil filter adapter and a couple other things.
If you register the filter adapter you can use as many filters as you see fit.
Take a look at pic related
#3 is the registered part of my suppressor. Which means i can replace the rest of it once its worn out. Problem is, the motherfucker shakes apart and is shit quality. A good suppressor will last longer then most people will ever shoot.
>>29885207
I'm just saying, you'll get many more years of use out of an SBR'd lower than you will a can, all things being equal, but will pay the same money for either.
ok AR fags I need better groups with my ar 1:8 twist using heavy ammo (75g hornady is what I'm using now).
pic related is 50 yards using CFE223 powder (near minimum load, max loads group about 4" radius). I've worked my way down from 27 all the way to 21 grains by 0.3 grains and this is the best I can do.
any advice on what to do next? different bullets? different powder? better barrel?
>>29885205

>thats disappoint if I've ever seen it on a dogs face

not anymore
If or when you need to change the filter out, the ATF/NFA rules says it needs to come back to the original manufacture, which Cadiz Gun Works is. The cost is $25.00. The complete Econo-Can Suppressor can be shipped directly to us, for gunsmithing, which would be replacement/rehab/repair of the oil filter, with the serial # remarked, and documented as being replaced/rehabbed/repaired. The completed Econo Can Suppressor can be sent back to you at your address on your NFA Tax Stamp Form. You do not need to go though a dealer for gunsmithing services. The life of the oil filter varies depending on caliber used and bullet type. (ex. AR15=300-500 rds)

I don't feel like its airsoft quality. The mounting screws and barrel nut are semi sub par. But Its a fucking solid rail.
>>29885745
The poi shift happen because barrel flex and twist differently for different load. Hotter and heavier load will make barrel flex and twist more, round lands where muzzle point when the round exit barrel.
Not to mention faster round land higher and higher bc round drop less and land higher.
>>29885772

So I got curious looking at the fit people are throwing over Fireclean. So I decided to mix up some canola oil and some 3-1 oil, and some Hoppes gun oil, and have a vanilla canola oil control. I want to see if long term the gun oil or 3-1 oil will seperate from the canola oil. They appear to have blended well.
We'll see what happens. I want to get some mineral oil type stuff too.
I'm trying to avoid the motor oils for the moment because they are loaded with carcinogens when they vaporize.

I've not had good luck with CFE. My best groups are with either H322 or 8208XBR, and yes you will give up some velocity for that accuracy.
If you like velocity *and* accuracy but don't have to shoot the ballsack off a gnat, Varget. Just be warned it meters like you threw a fistful of wrenches in your powder dropper.
Some people have good luck with AR-Comp as well, and it's one of the highest velocity powders that work well in AR's.
If you're still having grouping issues, play with seating depth. I normally load to max mag length, but one rifle prefers deep seated bullets (regardless of the bullet, that one chamber likes jumps).
Try different bullets. Nosler Custom Comps are cheap and well made, just a little lower BC than everyone else's. Barnes Matchburners are decently well made and have a very high G1 BC. I shoot a lot of them. They're also cheaper than SMK's. If, for trial purposes, you want to absolutely know the bullet isn't the issue buy a box of Scenars. They're expensive and have a horrid BC, but are the single most consistent mass-produced bullet made.
>I use a 67gr low-drag semicustom bullet since they're cheaper than SMK's much less Scenars or Berger VLD's, and still have a respectable BC for their weight
>my absolute best 100m groups are from semicustom 52gr flat-base bullets from Bart's Custom Bullets, and they're pretty damn cheap by match bullet standards
>>29885893
No. But i know as much as match shooter and reloader that reload for years. I used to be match shooter. I used to have shoot off with folks and my dad at range with my bolt gun when i was younger. I have savage model (i think) 110 in .270 win.
I have been reading multiple forum pages on reloads since im kid. I have researched on reloading often for often i almost got in reloading.
I will. I will.

Very cool. I grew up hunting and shooting with my father who has shot silhouette competition for a very long time.

>>29886257
Why not just buy some different powder, and use the CFE for plinking loads?
>>29886152
CFE is nice if you don;t feel like scrubbing copper.
I like the 8208XBr mostly for the temp satbility. That and the fact that I seem to be the only guy buying it at my LGS. He has it for $30 a jug, good $5-10 cheaper than any other populr bench powder.
For most loading I stick to RL15. For some reason it's beenmore available locally than varget. Might try the 17 since I've found a reliable source.
>>29886274
Nice my father's into precision and longer distance before i was born and still to this day he care about nothing but that.
Myself i found myself to get more enjoyment from shooting more and hitting my "target" than giving gnat a shave and shoot less.
>>29886281
yeah I probably will
>>29886314
I'm going to start molly coating my bullets so I don't think I'll need the copper fouling eraser any more. temp stability would be nice as I live in north dakota and shoot in the winter too. I've heard bad things about CFE and temp stability.
I'd have tried varget powder already but its always sold out here.
>>29886257
eeeh, I think I may have been a bit vague with that.
>I've not had good luck with CFE
Behind a 69gr SMK it's still a 0.800-0.900" 10-shot load through my barrels, which are nothing special (DPMS CMV unlined and a Shilen stainless, both 1:8). Just not the sub-half-MOA that my H322 load can do with the same bullet.
Out of curiosity, do you have a magnified optic on your rifle, and if so what is it? All of my load testing is done with a Nikon Monarch 3-12x in a QD mount to minimize aiming error, and all shots are fired from bipod+rear bunny-ear bag off a good bench.
>>29886314
8208 also has a copper eliminator in it. I honestly think it works better than CFE at getting rid of copper.
RL17 is gonna be too slow for even the heaviest mag-length .223/5.56, and marginal for single-loading 80gr VLD's. RL15 is pretty good with longer barrels but I have 18" and under, not willing to put up with unburnt powder all over high-end optics.
>$30/jug
Dats expeensive yo. I'm paying $179+7.5% tax per 8lb keg locally. Which is the same price I pay for Varget or H322 and less than I can get RL15 (per lb anyway since it only comes in 1lb or 5lb cans).
I will say that 8208 is definitely less temp sensitive than H322. H322 isn't particularly great on temperature, it was one of the first "not sensitive" powders (and a hell of a step up from H4895 or H414) but not as good as the RL series or Varget, which aren't as good as 2000MR or 8208XBR.
>>29886375
Moly is a goddamn mess, and if you mix bullets in a barrel (moly and no-moly, even if you scrubbed the shit out of it before the switch) you won't get any benefit from the moly.

$30 a jug is fucking cheap up here. $50 a jug is more in line with current prices.
I like the RL15, it's decently accurate but i want true fireablls.
My current AR rifle does not justify using good components for accuracy so i'm going for range troll and fireballs. The K31 and Remmy target rifle get good powders and the leftovers feed the AR.

Moly does prevent *some* copper fouling, by way of significantly increasing the lubricity of the bullet. You get better velocities and lower pressures too, enabling you to push loads hotter. But it isn't a "hurr never clean it again" thing either. And you have to maintain the barrel conditioning, *especially* if you're running loads beyond book max. Which means no super-aggressive bore solvents (Sweet's, Butch's) while still maintaining a pretty rigorous cleaning cycle.
>with single loading and a moly-conditioned bore, my Rem model 7 in .223rem commercial with a 22" barrel breaks 2900fps with 75gr Amax's with only mild primer flattening
Because I can run them *significantly* hotter than I can in an AR they actually drift and drop less than 77gr TMK's despite a significantly worse BC. I can't get 2700fps in my 18" AR with the TMK's even with 2000MR or Varget.
>>29886487
>$30 is fucking cheap up here
I'm so, so sorry anon.
>>29886569
As an aside, I really want to get a 26" polygonally rifled barrel from BHW for my Model 7.
>long-for-caliber barrel increases velocity somewhat
>polygonal rifling allows a slower twist while maintaining good stabilization and increases velocity marginally
>slower twist increases velocity marginally
>moly bullets and conditioned bore can increase velocity ~2% with standard book loads, and up to ~12% if you know how to read pressure signs and have a good, tight chamber and proper minimal (0.002") headspacing
I am relatively certain I could get a moly-coated 77gr TMK to over 3000fps from it.

Long time no see, Omni. Why'd you stop coming to TS?
>>29886639
Want to hear about my canola oil science experiment, Nick?
>>29886680

I'll throw my notes for today on Pastebin for you to look at if curious.

From angle grinder dipshit to science man of autism.
OC incoming. Reminds of a jungle from Jurassic park.
>>29886639
do people still go to the team speak anymore?
>>29886738
I will be monitoring this
>>29886738
yeah leave it alone about a month and it will turn sticky
i tried mixing legit firclean and canola oil with oils including diesel, but they end up the same way
a stick syrupy mess
>>29886795
Really? We'll see.
Canola oil seems to be okay in storage for long periods of time. And just because it may feel sticky to the touch does not mean it will not provide lubrication for the sliding metal.
>>29886794
I go to the TS a few times a week. I haven't lately because I have been busy, but I plan on going there more.
>>29886811
oh no
if you spread it thin and it will degrade
it stops the gun from functioning
and it's not easy to get off either
>>29886850
Not easy to get off? I have not met any substance yet that will stand up to denatured alcohol.
I'm determined to figure out what the game here is. They said canola oil is the same as Fireclean, and I want to figure out why.
>>29886868
canola/vegtable oil works just the same as fireclean up until it degrades
fireclean degrades slower but it still turns to syrup
every gun i put it on, without fail
an even brake cleaner has a hard time getting it off
i had it on a model 11 shotgun, that was not fun to detail strip
So, does anyone here use Froglube?
What are your favorite solvents, lubricants, grease for use on your weapons? I use trusty Hoppe's #9 and some cheap shit I find at The Mart-of-Walls.
>>29886897
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
I'm going to put everything I find into notes though. Review it at the end and see what everything looks like.
The difference between dicking around and science is writing it down.
>>29886906
Typically I use CLP or Hoppes Gun oil as an all purpose solution. I have some Hoppes #9 solvent, but I typically won't use a solvent unless I need it.
>>29886906
all that biodegrade able environmentally friendly non toxic shit can go to hell
i use hoppes oil and slip2000
>>29886918
I have never tried CLP in all my years. I had an aerosol can of Rem Oil way back that I swear was magic. I used that shit on everything, guns, doors, fishing reels, you name it, and on my knives everyday for years. It was magic, might still be around here somewhere but I can't locate it. I think it's time here was done, it served me well, and may have jumped to another dimension, another time, to seek out a new master. Like a fairly odd parent.
I'll never forget you, based Rem-Oil.
>>29886936
Hoppe's is effective, it's been around forever because it's cheap and just works.
>Smells good too, intoxicating, the perfume of a goddess
>>29887033
you realize i said oil, and not #9?
>>29887044
Yeah, true, I use hoppe oil too.
Do you use any #9? Never heard of slip2000
>>29886680
Go for it.
>>29886794
I haven't been there in a week or two because I just haven't found time to. Any free time I have has been dedicated to catching up on anime or trying to fix my sleep schedule. I fucking hate 2nd shift.
>>29887071
yes, for barrel cleaning
not anything other than that
>>29886906
Never had anything that CLP won't clean or lube
>>29887074
konosuba was a solid 8/10 if you haven't started it yet. s2 already confirmed
>>29887137
Fucking great show. Megumin best girl and I can't wait for S2. I've finished everything from last season, just catching up on this season.
So far I've watched: Bakuon!!, Netoge, Shounen Maid, Haifuri, Kiznaiver, Asterisk, and Mayoiga.
I just keep several small droppers of this in all my gun bags. Has yet to fail me, I'm waiting for some convincing reason to use anything more expensive.
Is 223 wylde the best of the 223 and 556 worlds or a shitty meme chambering
>>29887172
>I'm waiting for some convincing reason to use anything more expensive.
Dunno about more expensive, but this is a good read.
http://www.grantcunningham.com/2006/05/lubrication-101/
Now I'm thinking about what Queerbait said. I'm going shooting on Wednesday. After that I'm going to strip the shit off and back up and test the lube on some other metals that I can leave out, just to see what will happen. I saw a video of what happens to the canola oil when it oxidizes and it does not look pretty.
Perhaps I jumped the gun applying it to my rifles. So I'm going to see what can be done.

>>29887225
So I pussied out and stripped it all now.
I'm going to do some other testing before I put this stuff in my rifles.
>>29887190
I find it very accurate.
>>29886906
Hoppes/CLP for cleaning
Lucas Gun oil for oiling things
Either Lucas Extreme gun grease OR Mobil Synthetic Grease for grease

So I stripped and cleaned my AR for the first time.
Is it possible to have the extractor/bolt rotated the wrong way when popping in the cam pin? Seemed like it could go in 180 since the cam pin hole goes all the way through.
>>29887469
As you should be. It's changed though because I've got a new muzzle device and the barrel is slightly shorter. I'm also thinking about getting NODs would mean an ATIPAL or DBAL would be thrown on, as well.
>>29885456
I wanna build something similar to that but with open sights
What type of optic do you like anon how about a low power 3-9/12

Its a form of dextroamphetemine (one of the salts in adderall) but it needs to be metabolized so it kicks in slowly and isn't nearly as jarring as addy.
>>29889224
I see. What is it prescribed for? Same stuff as adderall? I haven't even seen a doctor in years.
>>29889229
Yeah. It doesnt compare to desoxyn but it works fine if its all you can get on campus.

Anyways, anyone here have an Aimpoint or EOtech and use a magnifier behind it?
>>29889258
No, and I never will. Fuck magnifiers.
>>29889277
...can you explain? I'm trying to decide if I want to but I have never seen one in person to judge.

There is no reason to get a magnifier when quality variables exist
>>29889292
Sure there is, a variable is not comparable to a true 1x red dot.
>>29889280
One of my old roommates had an AR set up with a magnifier. The rig in total was heavy as hell. It was a 16" carbine that weighed as much as my 18" SBR that I deliberately made as heavy as I could.
